If you are wanting truly terrifying and disturbing horror then this may not be the book for you (although it is quite disturbing from a psychological perspective). This book will leave you reeling, and there is a more pronounced supernatural element going on behind the scenes in the book that I really wish they had put in the movie or at least portrayed it better. There is tragedy, romance (although only slight), betrayal, mysticism along with science, ego, psychological trauma, and of course the epic question of what makes a monster and what makes a man....you know, all the goodies I look for in a gothic horror tale.
