The Book of Accidents

This book was well outside my comfort-zone and usual read. At moments it was brilliant and beautifully written and at others it was nearly juvenile in the way it relished the gory. It’s a lengthy book but read startlingly quickly. The only spots that dragged for me were when we settled into some violence and really needed to revel in bloodshed. But those spots were easy to skim right through without negatively impacting the story. I think the word I’m searching for is “gratuitous.”
I will 100% read something by this author again. Detailed scenes pulled me in - I gagged once while eating breakfast. I think it made it a little more disappointing when after moments of sharp, haunting, creepiness we tumbled down into mundane carnage. But. It’s like a pan of brownies right? Some of us love the chewy edges. And some of us are here for that weird undercooked goo in the middle.
