Brogan is not very happy about the new client he has to protect, but all his complaints disappear when he meets the assistant of said new client. Embry Ford is a dream come true, and Brogan is not someone who lets an opportunity like that pass. It doesn’t matter if Embry is taken, refuses to answer him or has enough secrets to make a sane person run away. Brogan is willing to risk everything to help the man he’s falling for. Even his life.
Bad Judgment is a fast-paced suspense romance between a bodyguard with a hero complex and a mysterious guy hungry for revenge. Emotional, dark and a bit amoral at times, it shows how love has the power to save, but also to drive us to commit unthinkable crimes.
I don’t think it was a bad story, but I was so annoyed with Brogan I was unable to see past it. I found his behavior confusing. I couldn’t help but imagine myself as Embry, trying to work while the bodyguard of my boss keeps talking to me out of the blue. Maybe in another context I wouldn’t mind, if this was a rom-com with teens as MCs, but the way Brogan approached Embry felt immature and unprofessional.
“You’d open a vein for me if I asked you to, and I don’t deserve it.”
On top of that, I didn’t really understand why he was so obsessed with Embry. Embry was screaming 'bad decision' yet Brogan decided to somehow ignore it and let himself free fall. I know not everyone is very responsible when it comes to love, but it almost seemed like Embry being a potential criminal was a turn on for him. I could not understand how someone can fall in love and trust a complete stranger when his actions are telling you that he can be trouble-the kind of trouble that puts you both in jail. What I’m trying to say is that, if this wasn’t a romance book, Brogan would be dead before the book started. Because the self preservation gene was not passed to him.
The writing and the pace were good, so I think it was more my problem with Brogan’s judgment that the book itself-maybe I should have read the title more slowly. I can see it being a solid read if you don't spend the book being annoyed at one of the characters.

Thank you so much, Arini!!💛 One of the MCs just didn't make sense for me. But you are right, romance doens't really make sense. I just wished I was able to still get along with it.
i hate it when one character is obsessed with the other for no apparent reason...like what's so special about them? i wanna be in on the secret in order to appreciate it. 🤣i'm sorry this was a bust, hopefully the next one will be better 💛 i would also recommend browsing Julia's shelves. she has great recs for MM romantic suspense!! :)

Lol this sounds pretty toxic and nonsensical; I’m all for an obsessive love story, but it does need to make sense! Otherwise it just seems idiotic and fake😅 Awesome review x

@Imme oh no, sorry. Red flags as in 'he may end up in jail because he's playing with fire'. Let's just say Embry seemed to be doing something that may get Brogan in trouble, yet Brogan did not care. They were sweet as a couple, i just didn't get why Brogan decided to go for it despite that. Maybe I'm too responsible to get Brogan LOL

@ancientreader I'm glad you loved it so much! I'm sorry i didn't, I'm that person who needs to care about the characters to enjoy a romance. I don't need them to be perfect, i just need to understand them somehow. But for some reason Brogan really annoyed me 😭 thank you 💛

@Em i don't get why characters are into potential criminals. there is a reason why i don't read mafia romances😭😭 I actually liked Embry, he was protecting a sweet inside, but from Brogan's position, where he could not know whether Embry was a nice person or not, only that there was something going on that can put him in trouble, i didn't understand why he decided to ignore it and fall in love 🤔 i get that it's a romance so the other love interest is cool, but Brogan wasn't supposed to know that *sighs* thank you so much, Em!! xx
Uff, it's so hard to see past a character you don't like, despite the chance that the story could be good. Especially when the romance doesn't make any sense! 😭 Still a wonderful review, Lau! 💜 Hope your next read will be a better one. 😊

thank you so much, @Amina!💛 It was exactly that feeling. I'm really angry at myself but I really couldn't understand Brogan, he was so childish and unresponsible at the beginning 🙈
@Elena Tbh i didn't even check whether they were long or not. I love long books so it would be something good for me! Also, there weren't any scenes I would have deleted (i would have deleted one of the MCs, but that is another kind of problem LOL). The pace was really good, we were always progressing. I wouldn't have minded a bit more of a slow burn at the beginning, tbh, but maybe it was because Brogan's decisions drove me a bit crazy. Thank you so much 💛
I’m sorry it was a miss. Sometimes I think authors are so bent upon finding new mc constellations that they forget to make them plausible 😕 I completely understand that - once you started rolling your eyes - it’s difficult to end up liking the character and the book. Fingers crossed for your next read 🤞
Thank you, @Cat!💛 Yes, it was one of those books where you don't start with the right foot and then it's very difficult to fully get involved. Such a shame, the pacing and the writing was good, if only I could have understood Brogan's decisions at the beginning. The worst part is that he wasn't a bad person-he was really good, actually-, I just found frustrating his way of thinking, I couldn't really follow 🙈
