While I have seen both movies of The Princess Diaries, I had never read any of Meg Cabot's books. I decided to remedy that by reading this novella. I doubt I'll ever read (much of) her works again.

This novella was fun for awhile, but then I got to the part where Grandmere gets upset about a store worker calling her "Dear" and throws a huge childish fit. I found that to be extremely annoying. I live in the South, and we call lots of older people "Dear", "Hon/Honey", or "Sweetheart" if we don't know their name. For someone to find respect and common courtesy to be offensive like she did really bothers me.

I was happy that Olivia had them go back to the store at the end, where the worker explains it. But, the fact that it happened at all still bothers me.
