The Snow Queen by Suzy Davies - A Retelling of Hans Christian Andersen's Fairytale Story.

Let me take you back to London Town, in the old days. A sister and brother live in an upstairs tenement. They are poor and not yet worldly-wise. My book, “The Snow Queen” takes you to this London you may already know or have read about. But although the metropolis is very real, it is seen through a magic lens in the mind’s eye.

The city shivers with chiming voices on fragile winds that sigh. The pre Read more of this blog post »

Outlander by Diana Gabaldon
“Because I wanted you." He turned from the window to face me. "More than I ever wanted anything in my life," he added softly.

I continued staring at him, dumbstruck. Whatever I had been expecting, it wasn't this. Seeing my openmouthed expression, he continued lightly. "When I asked my da how ye knew which was the right woman, he told me when the time came, I'd have no doubt. And I didn't. When I woke in the dark under that tree on the road to Leoch, with you sitting on my chest, cursing me for bleeding to death, I said to myself, 'Jamie Fraser, for all ye canna see what she looks like, and for all she weighs as much as a good draft horse, this is the woman'"

I started toward him, and he backed away, talking rapidly. "I said to myself, 'She's mended ye twice in as many hours, me lad; life amongst the MacKenzies being what it is, it might be as well to wed a woman as can stanch a wound and set broken bones.' And I said to myself, 'Jamie, lad, if her touch feels so bonny on your collarbone,

“Books are a portable kind of time travel. We go back as well as forward when we read them. When we come back into the now, after being immersed in worlds previously unknown to us, we find ourselves, transformed. Touched by their magic, nothing we ever perceived beforehand remains quite the same.”
Suzy Davies

“Libraries are like caves. They are places of transformation. There are secrets hidden within those walls.”
Suzy Davies

“I want to sling a stone, a small rock into a pool, see it ripple. I want to shake a tree, create a small storm..”
Suzy Davies, Johari's Window

“Look at the moon," sighed Housie..."Is it true, Ratty, what they say?"
"Not really, I don't think it's really made of cheese," breathed Ratty. The river seemed to sigh with the motion of the oar, in and out of the water.
"Why not?" asked Housie Mousie.
"Someone would have eaten it long ago!" Ratty replied.”
Suzy Davies

“The light of the Moon reminds us that when we share the light of others, we shine in our own unique way”
Suzy Davies

“There is wisdom to be found in fairytales, a deeper meaning in the magic of their worlds”
Suzy Davies

“Writers are method actors. They become their character. They feel what he or she feels. They switch between viewpoints, always with a clear sense of their own selves as writers, and yet somehow losing themselves in their Art”
Suzy Davies

“The lady replied in a voice holding all the magic of the winter solstice. Her voice drew him in, chiming softly in the wind.”
Suzy Davies, The Snow Queen
