This reads like one giant epilogue for the series, or perhaps serves as a spin-off for a new series about Max Wilder's (Colters' Daughter) abused sister Lauren. For fans of the series I suppose it's an okay read, but I was hoping for more of a plot and a little more heat.

Anyhow, it's almost Christmas, and all the Colters and their spouses are finally home in Clyde, Colorado at the same time. Holly and her husbands --Adam, Ryan, and Ethan (Colters' Woman) and their offspring Dillon, Seth, and Michael (Colters' Lady) and their wife, Lily, and only Colter daughter Callie (Colters' Daughter) and her husband Max are all set to celebrate at the parents' cabin, but there are a few roadblocks along the way. Here's a few hints:

So that's your basic plot. As you can see, not a whole lot of drama. As for the lovin' these books are so famous for? Most of it is off the pages; however, we do get a pretty hot ménage scene between Lily and her husbands--Dillon, Michael, and Seth.

This book is for die-hard fans of the series only. If you feel you can't get enough of the Colters, you'll want to read it. It doesn't break any new ground, but it does keep a couple plot threads dangling. In the future we'll probably be treated to a book about 3 1/2 stars

3 Stars for Colters’ Promise: Colters’ Legacy, Book 4 (audiobook) by Maya Banks read by Freddie Bates.

Maya Banks really tricked me with this one. This is the first book in the series that I’ve read. There’s a loving couple on the cover gazing into each other’s eyes. It looks like a sweet romance, but I should have realized that there would be a twist to it if Maya Banks wrote it. So it seems that the husband’s pronouns are they them. I get frustrated with the they them pronouns in a book unless it’s done with a lot of thought. So I’m starting the book out kind of frustrated, wondering if this is ever going to be addressed. And then it becomes clear, the husband is really plural. There’s actually three of them. I keep forgetting that’s an option.

What is it with the Colters that makes me keep coming back for more?

By all accounts, this whole series is... too much. I mean, three brothers with one wife. Then they have four kids. Then their three sons find the one woman to marry. And, their daughter is in BDSM marriage. Not to mention all the drama that went on. OTT, no doubt about it. But, still...

There's something in the way these stories are told that makes them warm, emotional and unleashes the craving to know more. Even though it was so obvious, just reading the blurb, what exactly will happen in Colters' Promise, I still liked it.
Weird, huh?

4 Stars - Erotic Romance - I've enjoyed this series but I've had issues with the narrator. In the previous books, his female voices have been too soft and sugary sweet. Luckily, that wasn't a problem with this book. His female voices worked for me. Maybe I've just grown use to them. ;)

This story was like going to a family reunion for me. For the past few years I have enjoyed The Colter Family's stories written by Maya Banks. This last book was short and sweet, and gave fans an update on the lives of all of our beloved characters from the series. The whole Colter family is going to be together for Christmas, and there are a few surprises in store. There is also an additional character as well, and that is Callie's husband Max's sister; Lauren. She has been recently physically abused by her boyfriend, and Callie and Matt go rushing to her side to bring her into the Colter family's protective circle. One of the things that I love so much about the Colter family is there loyalty to one another as well as their protective streak and their extreme respect for their woman.
This story basically read like an in depth epilogue; and I certainly enjoyed being reminded why I fell in love with this dynamic family to begin with. I can only hope that Maya may write a book about Lauren, and maybe her getting together with those sexy bodyguards that Max hired to watch over her! I can always count on Maya Banks to write a light and sexy story, that I usually go back and reread anytime I want.

The Colters is one of my all time favourite menage series. Banks had turned strong men into real people with genuine emotions and thoughts.
This book is the story of all the married kids and spouses home for Christmas and Holly wanting it to be special.
Banks was still in tune with the men. I think Holly's Adam, Ryan and Ethan haven't lost it. Neither did they gain anything. Lilly's Michael, Seth and Dillion were still hot compassionate and understanding men and they demonstrated their passion just finnnne.
Max, Callie's Dom, was way too sweet. Enough to gag on. He seemed to be trying to make ammends from the last book and it was over done.

Lilly has her Christmas surprise as does Holly. Lilly was a whiner from page one. I don't remember that in her book. Holly is still the matriarch but with love. Oh that word... it so over used here that it became annoying. Is there no synonyms for it?

The book was a disappointment I am sorry to say. Sorry because it let the series down big time. I hope the next in the series will breath life back.

My one reaction to this book is: The English language needs several more words for "love". Holy shit. Did you know it's possible to get annoyed with that word and the concept behind it?

This book is a perfect example of the saying “be careful what you wish for,” because Maya Banks only wrote it because the rabid Colters’ fans were begging for another book to show us how all our favorite characters were getting along after we called wrap-up on their individual books. And unfortunately, Colters’ Promise shows us just how bloody boring and sappy a romance novel relationship gets once there’s no drama to keep life spicy.

This latest Colters’ story gives us a peek at what the family’s up to, what’s going on in their lives and introduces us to Lauren, Max’s sister. The book goes back and forth from each couples point of view, but really follows the women: Holly, Callie, Lily and a small glimpse at Lauren.

Holly, ever the mama bear, wants to finally give her family a home cooked meal and as the story is set around the holidays, she enlists Lily’s help in learning to cook Christmas dinner. Callie and Max are preoccupied with bringing his sister, Lauren, to live with them after learning that she was dealing with an abusive ex who won’t leave her alone. Lily finds out that a new baby Colter is on the way, but has to deal with a past that rushes back at her and all she can think about is her first baby, Rose, and how she died suddenly from SIDS.

The two storylines that caught my attention most were Lily’s pregnancy and Lauren. Lily has a hard time finding joy in the news and struggles with it alone until she tells her men. They all support her in their own way and they had some nice moments together dealing with the news and the emotion that went with it.

By far I was most interested in Lauren. I finished the story wanting to know more about her and to know who the man is that’s going to help her heal. I loved seeing the protective brother side of Max. He came to life on page when he was taking care of Callie and later Lauren.

Where the book fell short was in the overall plot – there really isn’t one. If you go into this book only wanting an update on all the Colters, you’ll be happy. Beyond that, the only real plot to the book for me was Lauren’s introduction. I also think calling this a novel is misleading. I always hesitate putting a detail like this in a review – but I think it’s worth noting that to me, this read more like a novella. It’s short, about 200 pages and a very fast read.

Overall, the story didn’t bring much that was new to the table, but it’s a nice update on the current characters in the series. I would suggest that this would read best to people who are familiar with the series and characters already; new readers to the series may want to start with the earlier books prior to reading this. I’ve enjoyed the books in this series, so finding out what's going on with the family was fun to get (I’ll take any excuse to get more Max, yummy) but it didn’t feel like anything more than an update. I’m looking forward to the next novel for Lauren.

Perhaps this would have been better had I started with the first book. I have no clue why I bought this but I think I got it from a goodwill. It was the 4th book so I had no clue what was going on and the relationships. I just skimmed it really. No clue what I read. Feel it’s harsh to give it 1 star because of this but the first book didn’t get good ratings and I bought it so I felt I needed to read it. Waste of an hour and a half lol.

Fourth in the Colters' Legacy erotic romance series based in Clyde, Colorado in the Rocky Mountains. The couple focus is mostly on Lily with her men---Dillon, Michael, and Sean. A secondary focus is on Holly with her men---Ryan, Ethan, and Adam along with Callie Colter and her husband Max Wilder.

My Take
Sweet, but very short. More of a bridge novel with everyone settling in. It's not about sex, although, with three "couples", two of whom are composed of one woman and three men, sex is a given. It is, however, loving and gentle. Primarily, the story is about support and reassurance.

Lily is making her men a bit nuts with her reaction to her new status which Banks goes on and on and on about, BUT, I suspect it is a perfectly natural reaction for a woman who has suffered as she has. She's lucky in the love her men have for her.

The Story
Everyone's settling in on the mountain with the only two hiccups being Lily's reaction to some initially very unwelcome news and the abuse Lauren is undergoing. The second is easily solved when Callie gets involved while the first takes more time and a lot more lovin'.

Just an ordinary autumn in a family who loves.

The Characters
Lily Colter is an artist with a sad past (see Colters' Lady ) and an amazing love married to three brothers: Seth is the sheriff in Clyde, Michael is a veterinarian, and Dillon runs a pub.

Callie Colter Wilder is the Colters' baby sister. Married now to a very wealthy man, Max Wilder, who loves to dominate her ( Colters' Daughter ). Fortunately, Callie loves to submit. Lauren is Max's sister, his only surviving family. And she has a bad history of bad choices.

Holly Colter is the boys' mother. And thirty years of marriage later, she and her men---Adam, Ryan, and Ethan—are still ecstatically happy and in love.

The Cover
It's a sweet cover of Callie's Meadow and a young couple holding each other as though they were dancing, filling the sky. There's a spring feel to it even if the vegetation is more fall-like.

The title is a metaphor, the Colters' legacy, the Colters' Promise of love, support, of family.

Maya Banks is one of my favorite authors!! I am a HUGE fan of hers!! I especially LOVE this series--it is one of my favorites!! Colters' Woman was the first menage that I had ever read and I was hooked from then on!! LOL I am so glad that she decided to continue the series after Colters' Daughter!! Although I adore Adam, Ethan, Ryan and Holly--Seth, Michael, Dillon and Lily are my absolute favorites!! I feel like I have been waiting for this book for forever and I was not disappointed!!

There was so much to love about this book. It was such a heartwarming read. The characters from the previous books were all included and each of the couples had an equal amount of story written about them. It was great to see what everyone was up to a little more then a year later. I definitely want my own Seth, Michael and Dillon--they each have their own personality and bring something different and special to the relationship and they absolutely adore and cherish Lily--who wouldn't want that?? Plus all three are HOT!!! LOL ;) Lily is a lucky character!!! LOL Colters' Promise pulled me right in from the beginning and held on until the end but of course still left me wanting more!! Definitely a reread !!

The Colters' Legacy series is more then just about menage-although the sex in the books is definitely HOT!! Each of the books have a great story line. They are about love and family and finding the one who completes you. Maya Banks wrote this series about a truly loving and caring family and I found it hard not wishing that the characters really existed. I don't think I will ever get enough of the Colters and I will be sad when the series finally ends!!

I bought this book sight unseen because it was on sale and I enjoy Maya Banks's KGI series. Imagine my surprise.

Although this series is probably put in the erotic genre, I am making my own romantic fantasy utopian romance genre because these folks do not live in any reality I know. Basically it's an emotional utopia where no one feels jealous, inadequate, slighted, or wronged. Everyone is filled with a warm and fuzzy unconditional love in which its presence is never in doubt or its withdrawal ever considered. Oh, and the main goal of all the men is to please women in every way. Remind me again why this can't be real?

Also, I am catching this series at the end. With only the abbreviated backstory hinted throughout this book, it's really hard to judge too harshly. Maya Banks, as always, does a fabulous job writing family dynamics. I didn't get a sense of the male personalities, but I did feel the individual characteristics of all the female characters pretty easily. My guess is that if I had read the whole series, I would have probably thought this one was an awesome ending.

edited: 2/6/2014 - I think utopian romance better describes the idealistic nature of this book.

I really enjoyed Colters' Promise but it was a very short story and I have to say that I'm glad I only paid 6$ for it since it way too short and the original price of 7.99$ is way too expensive IMO.

I enjoyed reading more about the Colters' family but I had a feeling like the publisher was trying to rip readers off with charging so many money for such a short story.

It's not the author's fault how much the publisher charge for a book and that's way I gave the book 4 starts review,

I liked the story, I found it interesting and it was very emotional but there I felt like it was too short- the book was 208 pages long (the rest of the pages are preview from Echoes Ar Dawn, the margins were wide and I just felt like it wasn't really a 200 pages long story.

I hope the next book in the series Colters' Gift won't be so short.

I love the Colter series but this story was a big disappointment. It was sugar poured on syrup over a candy bar - so sweet it made my teeth ache. A lot of serious subjects were touched on but were avoided to keep you swimming in an ocean of honey. I really looked forward to reading this story but I was seriously disappointed. Where was the conflict? And where was the resolution?

I was thinking that Lauren was really going to shake things up for Lilly and her men- perhaps make a new twist in the unusual Colter relationships but she ended up being an pointless addition to the story. YAWN.

If you want an overpriced bit of romantic fluff that you can read in a couple of hours then this is the read for you but if you want a story with some content and bite. Take a pass.

Yet again, I cannot get enough of the Colter men!!!!

Sadly, I still can't connect with Callie and Max. :( I see the next book is going to be about Lauren, Max's sister. Honestly, I just want to keep reading about the Colter men, but hey, I'll read it! :)

Bit of fluff. She spends so much time trying to make this a stand-alone book that there isn’t much room for any sustained plot. Sometimes a series book doesn’t make a good stand alone and that’s ok

I was so excited to get this latest installment of Maya Banks’ Colter family. I’ve enjoyed reading about this unique family since the first book. Not many authors are able to give readers a balanced read with romance, the erotic, and a good storyline, but not so the case with this Colters’ Legacy series from Ms. Banks. Each book has been thoroughly enjoyable to read, and it’s nice to know there’s more to come.

In this book we get a wrap-up for each part of the Colter family that we’ve met in previous books. The nucleus of the family is Holly. Woman, lover, wife, mother. She and her husbands, Adam, Ryan, and Ethan, are older in this book. Their children are grown and married, homes of their own. But I really like their relationship at this point. It’s more mature, but their love and hunger for each other has never waned in the intervening years.

Callie, their daughter, is happily married to Max, but with a phone call from his sister, Lauren, Max has been out of town helping his sibling out, and Callie has no idea what’s going on. When he returns home, she finds a different Max than the one who left. He seems distant, pulling away from their relationship that Callie needs, his Dominant to her submissive. When he tells her what he found during his visit with Lauren, she’s as appalled and angry over her sister-in-law’s situation as Max was and still is. Because family means everything to the Colters, Callie insists they bring Lauren to the mountain where she can heal. And she has a heart to heart with her husband to let him know how much she needs him and their very special connection to one another.

A visit to her doctor confirms Lily’s fears – she’s pregnant. The loss of her child in a previous marriage still haunts her and she’s not sure she can go through that again. But Sean, Dillon, and Michael need to know. Lily just needs a little time to process the news first. Her husbands know something is wrong, but Lily isn’t forthcoming with her concerns. Is she tired of sharing her life with them? Has it all become too much? When Lily realizes the fear her silence has caused, and even though she botches the way she wants to tell the men, her news is most welcome indeed. But the guys also realize it’s going to be an emotional time for Lily, and their tenderness with her is very touching.

What truly makes this story is the little details and family. Holly wants to learn to cook to present her family with Thanksgiving dinner. It’s Lily who teaches her in secret. The way they handle their husbands during this time is priceless, and those men know something is up but they go along with their wives for the upcoming fun. Lauren also benefits being with the Colter family. It’s Holly who breaks through to her, making her realize there’s no room in her life for shame or blame. The way these men revere their women is wonderful to read. The way the family sticks together, no matter what, warms the heart. Then there’s scorching those love scenes. You feel the love and passion ooze off the pages when these characters share themselves with one another.

The Colters have something to offer every reader out there. Maya Banks has created a family of characters who will be remembered long after the last page is read, long after another dozen or two other books have been read. Take the time to get to know them. They will happily welcome you into the family.

One Big Happy Family...That Continues To Grow!

I'm so excited for Seth, Michael, Dillion and Lily!! The first Colter Grandchild! The kid is going to be supported, loved and dangerously spoiled!! With Baby Rose very present and watching over them. Lily has three men who love and cherish her dearly, want won't accept her going at anything alone - they make all her struggles and problems bearable. It was so sweet of them to acknowledge Lily's biggest loss and lover her to the point of healing.

Max and Callie. Max is a big freaking sweetie. I enjoy it! His sister, Lauren...thank goodness she's now with people who will never betray her love, trust and loyalty. It would be nice to see her story play out with a good man from Clyde. She now has two best friends in Callie and Lily as well as four big brothers. She can do anything without having to fear dealing with misfortunes on her own. Oh, and did I mention she basically has the older generation of Colters as parents. She's got all she needs - she deserves a good guy.

And poor Holly. Mama Colter just wanted to cook for her entire family - the first time they were all in attendance for Christmas, she was determined. And thanks to her daughter-in-law...she pulled it off without a hitch. She also caused a bit of drama, of course she did. Scared her husbands to death, to see how fiercely they love her after all those years is so nice.

This was a shorter book than the others in the series. It read more like a very extended epilogue where we get to catch up with all the Colter characters.
What I did not like: There really was no storyline or obvious plot to follow, no actual conflicts. Most scenes were too sugary, I lost count how many times the word "loving" came up.
What I liked: The author's writing is very good, her style works for me and is very pleasant and easy to follow. I also loved getting updated on everyone because I like all the characters in this series.
I think you definately need to read the previous books in order for this one to truly make sense. Once again we delve into the Colters' personal nirvana, where everyone is sweet, understanding, caring, and the women live surrounded by happiness and pleasure in a land of milk and honey. The men are never upset, angry or jealous even though they share the same woman, and they live in a constant state of bliss. I personally enjoy reading about this modern-day dreamland and will likely grab the next one in the series, but this book in particular was not my favourite one.

Well I feel like I have to justify reading this chik lit....so when I was fighting the flames of a fever and wanted a break from all my educational non-fiction and something fantasy and not too mentally taxing, I ran across this 49 cent Thrift Town short book in my stash. I thought just the thing!
Well...HaHa on me....I guess I've been in this boat before, 'cause I had already read it! But I still read it and, surprise, surprise, one of the characters right out of the chute was battling a fever also!! Never fails I somehow pick books that parallel my life with the very things I'm trying to escape from!! But, I will say, I skipped over the foursome, as that really is never to be, besides I had read it before, right? I will finish tonight, but will sum it up here. A little too syrupy for me. A little too perfect. A little too unrealistic...I mean really? A total of SIX guys all in the same place who treat women with the utmost devotion, respect, and protection. See what I mean? Fantasy! Just what I needed. Read it and weep.

I want to start from the ending and say, Way to go, Holly!!!!

You will have to read it to know what's that about.

Anyway, this seems to be a holiday novella, since the events take place around Christmas. Basically, this book gives fans of this series a glimpse into the lives of the characters from the previous 3 books and is also a intro for Lauren's story.

Still, if you are a fan and have been wondering what's been going on with your beloved characters, then this is definitely for you. Now, for those of you expecting a lot of the smexy times Maya Banks are known for, well most of the hanky panky takes place off scene(?), but we do get one really hot and sweet scene between Lily, Seth, Micheal, and Dylan.

All, that being said, will someone send me one of those Colter men, either one will do. Those are some very lucky women in that family.

I'm such a fan girl of Maya Banks Colter's series and was over the flipping moon when I realised there was a 4th book. I loved cacthing up with the Colter family. Colter's Promise is set 2 years after book #3 and it features characters from the first three books and new characters for book #5 which I'm so happy for but sad I have to wait until April 2013 to read Lauren's story.

Maya Banks was the first Eroctic romance novel I read and because her books are not all about sex (although there is that and can I just HOT HOT sex)her novel are ploted so well and the characters drive you to keep reading. I will read anything that Maya Banks Releases.

(August) 3.5* While this book was really a whole lotta nothing, it was still very sweet. I love how MB makes the families appear completely normal - sorry, don't really think it's possible for 3 brothers to hook up with one woman and their family be accepted as just a normal, average everyday family (small town living?!). That said, glad the book didn't focus to much on Callie and Max, as they are not my favorites. This should really be billed as a Xmas story, because that is really what it was. A slightly kinky feel good end (?) to the series (unless we will be back to visit w/Max's sister Lauren?).

Well that was cute. :)

It's been a year since Max and Callie's story. Now everybody's stay. And Mama Colter, Holly, is determined to have a family dinner in Christmas. But when Lily felt sick and Max's abused sister came along, will this Christmas be perfect just like Mama Colter wants? Reunion!

It's very cute story. Been a while since I read Colters' series. This book's so simple and it's perfect reading in evening with a cup of tea.

I always like Colters' family, especially the Papa Colters'. The way they treated Holly and their sons + daughter, always wins me over. :)))

Nailed it as always, Miss Banks!

So first of all this is my least favorite book in this series. And 256 pages? Uh, no. And I'm really pissed that I paid $8.55 for this from Amazon. It's very very short and I was expecting something around the length of the first book. I finished it in one short sitting this afternoon. Totally not what I expected. It felt rushed and the ending was not satisfying. I feel like I got half a book. So are we supposed to pony up another $8.50 for the rest of the story???

This is a follow-up story on Lily with Seth, Michael and Dylan. The men are manly (all THREE of them, in different ways), the woman is vulnerable, and the family is loving and supportive to the point of repetitive sappiness. Not high quality writing, but I enjoyed it nonetheless. I listened to the audiobook. 3.5/5
