Beauty in Imperfection #2

Imperfect Affections

Rate this book
When Leon tries to force Violet into marriage, it's war for both of them. The battle is hot and dirty, and no one walks away without scars.

A DARK ROMANCE
Love is for people who don’t mind getting hurt. I vowed to never fall into that trap. I entered into war with my beautiful, corrupted, and dangerous husband. He warned me he always won. He told me I’d lose, but I didn’t want to believe him because there was too much at stake. What he didn’t tell me was that the battlefield is messy and bloody, and that no one walks away without scars.

Imperfect Affections is the second book in the Beauty in Imperfection duology and concludes Violet and Leon’s story.

**SPOILERS under Sexual History**

DNF @ 24% coz a mess of:

1.) contrived romance/dialogue

2.) H and h lacked romance and emotional chemistry.

3.) Even the sex was awkward since jerk H would pull out as soon as he got his fill and would leave h unsatisfied. Yet he'd leave her some money and/or jewelry next to her body like she's the prostitutes he's used to.

4.) Still no clue why H had focused on h to be his wife and I didn’t care anymore at this point.

5.) Both H and h became less likable.

Sexual History:
24yo h not a virgin with h. She’s had other lovers including her last ex-BF she was with for 6 months.

30s(?) software-programmer H had never taken anyone out on a date until h. He frequented prostitutes while he lived and traveled around South Africa and Africa. Some of the prostitutes he saw for longer terms than 1-pay usual. With these longer term ones, he’d pamper (i.e., learn what makes them orgasm, shop with them at high-end stores). No info when he’d last slept with anyone before h.

Firstly you must read Beauty in Imperfection first.

This picks up where Imperfection left off. Leon has been betrayed by Violet yet he still wants her to be his wife. He struggles coming to terms with his growing attraction to the woman who hurt him.

Violet has swapped one hell for another. Blackmailed by her step-brother to save her mother she had no choice but to steal from Leon. Now she’s trapped in a marriage with a man she thinks hates her.
Several times throughout this book I really wanted to dislike Gia but I just couldn’t. She’d sacrificed her happiness for her daughters future. I couldn’t begrudge her finding affection where she could. Despite the danger.

So we have a cauldron of mistrust and misunderstandings. Mixed with intense desire and want. Plus Leon Hart. And if you need more than that we also have Damian, Ian, Zoe and Maxime.

I loved Leon, even though he’s hard and uncompromising. He certainly makes it a challenge but who doesn’t love a challenge especially when it’s wrapped around a bad boy.

I voluntarily read a review copy kindly provided by the author.

Wow, Violet and Leon really go through it to get to their happily ever after.

May be an image of 1 person and indoor

This is an angsty read with a lot of drama between this couple. Leon definitely has the darker, anti-hero flair going on here. Some of his actions hurt my heart even as they hurt Violet and yet I still liked him despite his actions. He was dealing with his own emotions and that went a long way to redeeming his behavior.

Violet was stuck in a position that limited her ability to do more than what was laid out before her. However, the way she reacted to some of Leon’s actions is exactly what was needed and I loved that those reactions affected him.

This was a lengthier read compared to the first book and it moves from the dissension between Leon and Violet to a place where they are at least communicating and working towards something more stable. The journey is the story until the end when there is a bit of conflict and additional drama to stir the pot. The true test is how they respond to their new issues. I loved them even more at that point.

Animated GIF

The chemistry between Leon and Violet was absolutely nuclear and required the use of a personal fan to cool me down. Characters from the previous books make an appearance and also add a touch of humor. Overall, a great conclusion to this duet.

Leon Hart is the darkest and kinkiest of the Hart brothers in Imperfect Affections. The sex is dirty, twisted, and had me blushing like I was plagued with a wicked scarlet fever. Leon thinks Violet Starley betrayed him because she didn't want to marry him. He's way off base. She betrayed him because she was blackmailed by her evil stepbrother, but she can never tell him that. So, Leon is going to punish his new bride. And punish her. And punish her some more. Go ahead, Leon. Dig yourself a hole all the way to China. This boy has got some karma coming!

Charmaine Pauls is my dark romance queen! Do you know why I fall for her stories every time? She has mastered that goldilocks zone where the hero is an asshole but he'll lay down his life for you without a second thought, where the heroine is tortured by the man she loves but comes out on top and stronger than ever. Charmaine never misses a step with Leon and Violet. She played me like a Fazioli, and nearly killed me a few times. Then, she relents and picks up the pieces of my heart and tucks it back into my chest. Thank you very much! Her words carry poetry, insight and vivid imagery. I love the beauty of her writing. Get your tissues ready!

Having read all of the Diamond Magnate books, I believe that although there is a definite chronological order to Damien, Zoe, Ian, and Leon's stories, they can also be read as standalones, out of order. The strength of each book has been in the journey. I already trust the author to reach the destination.

Story picks up from book 1.
No intimate scenes other than the Hero and heroine.
He does have a meal with another woman who he has previously been intimate with but as he has no female role models he says its for advice on his marriage.
He is OTT, possessive and at times cruel.
We see the HEA of couples in previous books about the Hero's siblings.
HEA.
Epilogue.

I got tbh I thought the whole situation the heroine was in was because she felt indebted to her mother but then her mothers stupid actions were trapping her.
I just had little sympathy with the mother and it might seem heartless but I wanted the heroine to walk away and leave her to it.

The mother married to help her daughter get better care but then has an affair and the stepson has pictures he's bribing the heroine with, of the mother with the other man.

Confession: I spent an incredible amount of time during the first book wanting to slap Violet for her attitude and this time around it was Leon’s turn! He tested me people, but then like magic, Charmaine did what she does best, and I swooned for them both!!

It took me longer than I expected to root for & believe in Violet & Leon’s future and I think it’s because their journey was an emotional slow-burn yet physically they were all in! As a reader, it took me by surprise because that’s not something you read very often, and it wasn’t until I was deep into their story that I had this epiphany and thought how much more realistic and relatable Violet and Leon’s journey was because of it!

Unlike the first of their journey, this one was riddled with dark twists, lack of communication, mistrust, lies and deceit all doused with a combustible chemistry that made it that much more intense. It’s the longer part of their journey because they must grow from ashes and truly develop, not just as a couple, but also individually. Their story is one giant growth journey until almost the end, and it was glorious to experience. I can’t think of the last time I read a story where the leads developed until almost the end of the book and this worked for Violet & Leon.

Charmaine continues to take my breath away with her mind for storytelling. She not only engages my heart, but also my mind. Her stories are never easy but are always realistic. Her characters are flawed, just like you and me, and there is an intensity to the stories she decides to gift us with that enrapture and captivate from beginning to end! She’s an author I never miss reading and trust 100% because she has yet to disappoint!

The second book of the duet becomes more dark and more twisted. It starts where book 1 Imperfect Intentions left off.
The Hart brothers are lions of the veld. They're ominously dangerous, infinitely brave and dominant alphas of their territory. Leon seems like the mildest of them all, but a Hart is a Hart at the end of the day. The claws, though sheathed are still capable of ripping their enemies to shreds when threatened. But for now His hunt for adventure starts and ends in the Techverse, it seems. What harm can be doled out sitting behind the screen, is far more debilitating and irreversible. Thus begins his quest for becoming the Man of prominence, a right hand at the seat of power at Starley Corp.

"Pure love sprouts from good intentions. My love is born from an obsession. It’s dark and tainted and full of wrongs, but Violet means everything to me. "

But his loyalty is surpassed only by his vengeance. He has been wronged and his retribution involves Gus Starley's stepdaughter- Violet.
This book furthers the messed up relationship Violet and Leon share. Leon comes into his own. Violet shows her spine and they start to heal together.

"You don’t expect a cuddle when you’ve charged money.
He pays.
I deliver.
Clean, bland, and straightforward, not messy and colorful.
If anything, I’m relieved.
No more expectations. No more hurting. Just merciful nothingness.

This book had more poignant scenes than the first one. Some moments they share were too tender and heartbreaking. One such was when a feeling of numb acceptance comes over Violet. Her stark momentary demands in the midst of passion just broke my heart.

I believe this is my fave brother so far. Loved the book from first page to the epilogue

From the moment Leon Hart met Violet Starley, his dark attraction and obsession over her dictated his every move. In Imperfect Affections, the consequences of Violet’s actions and the implementation of Leon’s revenge finally comes to fruition when he decides to take her as his wife once and for all. If I were to compare Leon, he would be most similar to his younger brother—Damian Hart from Beauty in the Broken. This book was such a whirlwind of emotions, angst, and drama from start to finish. I was incredibly angry, sad, and frustrated by Violet and Leon’s twisted relationship because it simply did not have to be this way. However, this is a testament to Charmaine Pauls’ ability to write a character who is multi-faceted and may seem irredeemable because of how he treats his heroine to one who is deserving of her love in the end. Leon and Violet's story was simply heartbreaking, action-packed, dirty, and incredibly erotic.

“My love is born from an obsession. It's dark and tainted and full of wrongs, but Violet means everything to me.”

Following the cliffhanger ending from Imperfect Intentions, Leon now knows what Violet has done and vows to punish her for betraying him. This part of the book was incredibly difficult for me to read because of Leon's unnecessarily cruel and twisted actions. I hated what he was doing to Violet and it pained me to see him disregard her feelings when she had no choice in the first place. At this point in the story, Leon wasn't deserving of Violet's affections at all. His actions did have significant consequences in their relationship and in order for him to love and be loved in return, forgiveness was required from both sides. I was highly anticipating the moment Leon found out the truth about Violet and it certainly did not disappoint. In many ways, they both parallel each other because of their upbringing and perspective on love. Violet stole from Leon, which resulted in him stealing her.

“I want Leon. I want the life I glimpsed with him, even if it's imperfect. Even if it's not love. Because sometimes, there's beauty in imperfection.”

In the end, this book was everything I wanted for Violet and Leon—despite all the untruths and suffering they had to endure from each other. Their love wasn't perfect but it was enough for them. Actions often speak louder than words and it was clear to me that Leon was willing to protect and sacrifice himself for Violet no matter the cost. Gus and Elliot also got what they deserved. Fans of Charmaine Pauls and the Diamond Magnate world will not want to miss out on Leon and Violet's journey together because it beautifully ties up the entire Hart saga and any loose ends between our couple. It was so wonderful to see everyone again including Zoe and Maxime, Damian and Lina, as well as Ian and Cas. I highly recommend this duet to those who love reading dark and steamy romance with a morally gray anti-hero and a naive heroine who wears her heart on her sleeve.

After that killer cliffhanger from Imperfect Intentions,i needed Imperfect Affections more than my next breath.
So,when the ARC dropped into my inbox,i nearly tripped in my haste to download it to my library.
And when i started,i couldn’t stop,and cursed the moments when i didn’t have a choice….
Why does hubby need to eat, can’t he take care of supper himself??
And do i really have to sleep or go to work??

We left when Leon found out what Violet had done, and he intended to make her pay for it.
The marriage plans changed, and ended up being a quick affair at the department of home affairs.
Cursing his attraction to her,he intended to keep their interactions as business-like as he could.
The way he treated her, hurt her deeply, and he got the distance he wanted.
So,why did that hurt,deep down?
If only he could get past that feeling of betrayal….

Violet knew she hurt Leon badly when she did what she did.
But the way he treated her made her feel cheap and worthless, like he was using her to scratch an itch.
Maybe even like it was a business transaction, with the money he left after he was done….
On the other hand,he díd like her art when he saw it,and he díd find her a job when she stated she wanted to work.
Leaving her confused,and maybe a little hopeful…?

When Leon finally found out the reasons for her actions,he was livid.
And he made a vow to make the ones responsible pay for what they did to Violet.
After he talked to her….and after they shared some painful secrets.
But his plans had consequences, and innocent people were going to pay….
Would Leon and Violet get through this mess alive?

I started this part of the duet with bated breath, afraid of what i would find.
And at first,it was bad…. hearing both Leon and Violet’s feelings about their situation really hurt.
And the circumstances were working against them.
But in the end,i did get the closure i so badly needed, and i’m left with a smile on my face, knowing all is well.
The journey towards that feeling may have been a rocky one,but i had faith in Charmaine and in the end she delivered,in spades!

This duology centers on Leon, a member of the criminal Hart family, and Violet, the step-daughter of the crooked tech czar he works for. At the end of the last book, Violet stole Leon's computer program and gave it to her step-brother. Though she did it to protect her mother from the brother's blackmail, Leon doesn't know this. Equal parts angry at and desperately attracted to the woman who "betrayed" him, Leon does what any sensible man would: he marries her. The rest of the book details their forced marriage, enemies-to-lovers rocky romance, revenge , and redemption.

For me, the strength of these books is Violet who, atypically for this genre, has agency, depth, and inner fortitude. Let's put it this way: She experiences her fair share of betraying body syndrome, but doesn't give up her moral compass or goals in the process. I was less thrilled with Leon who, throughout, acted like an overgrown five year old deprived of his favorite toy. If "anti-hero" is synonymous with "hypocrite," that's Leon in spades. He expects loyalty from a woman he's forced his attentions on; love from a woman he treats abominably; and fair play from a tech company known for selling illegal code. It's very much a case of "one standard of behavior for thee; another for me." I'll also add that it's less his "dark" actions I objected to and more the super-confusing mixed messages he sent. Why Violet ever trusted someone who waxed so hot and cold towards her is a mystery. That said, Leon did ultimately care about her happiness and I did get caught up in the storyline.

Finally, I wish authors and reviewers would stop with the abelist language. People with disabilities aren't "broken;" they don't wish they were "normal;" they aren't here to provide inspiration porn; and they're certainly not focused on "overcoming" their disabilities (whatever that means).

4 stars. Fans of this series (I've only read these two books) will enjoy the epilogue. Since I haven't read those books, I was less interested in that aspect, but it did provide closure.

“If you let me Violet Hart, I could love you deeply.”

Leon and Violet continue on with the wedding but it’s anything but blissful. Leon is hurt and in turn, tries to hurt Violet. But he can’t for long. While he’s upset and feels betrayed, he eventually learns the truth behind why Violet stole his software to give her villain of a stepbrother.
These two come together to save her mother, save their love story, and get back at the Starley family.

Throughout the story, these two F like rabbits. Hot and steamy sexual tension.
“I’m lost in her. Instead of saving her, I’m sinking, the seduction I targeted at her sweeping me away.”
And another Hart brother finds love.

What I loved is finally, the Hart brothers and wives we’ve come to love all came together at last. We see pregnancies and babies and what the future holds for the Harts and it was the best HEA I could have asked for!

What a way to end not only this duet, but the Hart siblings story as well. I really like how all their stories were closed in a way they all deserved.

I loved the possessive and slightly dark obsession between Leon and Violet. And I especially loved the epic revenge the was dished out.

I can't always do dark books, however Charmaine Pauls has that perfect balance of dark, possessiveness and love the makes her couples addictive.

It's time for Violet's reckoning. She betrayed Leon and he's going to make her pay. But when he finds out why she betrayed him, he just may have second thoughts on how he plans on treating her, how he plans on taking his revenge. His feelings for her are complicated. He knows she sold him out. But he's starting to love her, starting to feel more than just some possessive lust and fascination. In his world, love isn't exactly the norm, though his brothers have found it with their partners. But can he feel it for the woman who betrayed him so badly?

Violet's been through it. Her mother never accepted her imperfections and it left scars on her psyche. Her stepbrother is blackmailing her into betraying Leon in order to protect that same mother. And now Leon is furious with her and his behavior is hurting her. What's a woman to do? Well, Violet does the best thing - she stands strong, and grows more than I ever thought she was capable. She isn't sure she loves Leon, her scarred heart might demand a bit of distance from her sometimes cruel partner, but at some point she's going to have have to make a decision - go all in with Leon, or flee.

Anti-hero, dark love, less than perfect behavior - all signature Charmaine, all present in this duet. Leon was definitely an anti-hero - sometimes cruel, definitely morals somewhere in the grey, but by the end I had fallen for him. Violet though, she was my favorite part of this story. She grew so much, changed and became the woman that peeked through in Imperfect Intentions . I was rooting for her backbone to show up and damn did it, and I think it made Leon even more fascinated with her. Their journey was a sexy, suspenseful and very intriguing addition to the Diamond Magnate world.

Me gustó.
Me gustó mucho.

This is is the second book in the Beauty in Imperfection Duology and is the finale of Violet and Leon’s story. Leon is one of Hart brothers and he is dark and into kink. This story is amazing and hard to put down once you start reading. Charmaine Pauls is the master of dark romance and this book is no exception. The story line will grab your interest at the beginning and keep you on the edge of your seat. No shortage of drama or darkness. I read an advance copy via the author and voluntarily chose to write a review.

Leon and Violet’s story was wrought with deceit and lies, commitment and perseverance, love and devotion ❤️
This marriage was based on the promises of a reward into Gus’s business and when that doesn’t work Leon is determined to still marry Violet, even after her theft of his work. This turns into a loveless marriage that is marred with resentment and anger but so much passion.
This duet by Charmaine Pauls is spectacular and so beautifully written.

“Destiny is the imperfect road of the past that led us to this perfect moment.”

This second part of Violet and Leon’s story is darker than the first.
And is amazing!
I love both of them! Both characters are well constructed - I love Leon’s struggle with his heart regarding Violet, and Violet’s struggle to lowe her walls.

Only Gia seems to me a little light headed - as Leon says, she was the child and Violet the parent! Becouse seem impossible for her to not realize how dangerous her husband is, and to repeatedly cheat him. But I believe she choose to not aknoledge this danger, not to not know.
I will love a follow up on her.
And also on Zelda.

My only regret is that I don’t read the rest of the series, and I don’t know about Ian, Zoe and Damien.
But I must remedy this.

I received an BETA copy from the author, and I left my honest voluntary review.

This one just made me feel so nostalgic I can't 😭😭-

I was definitely a bit weary at the start of the book plainly because I wasn't a fan of how impersonal Violet and Leon's relationship felt that far into the story- especially as there weren't many emotional scenes/wasn't really an emotional basis to their relationship prior to their marriage. But the ending of the book to me really made up for it.

Towards the end especially, I loved how their relationship developed, and thought that there were some really cute scenes. And even though the switch from hate to love felt very sudden, I still found it really cute. The way that Leon fell in love first was just so sweet and I love him.

This book had so many cameos from previous characters in other series, and I felt so nostalgic and now I'm going to have to re-read some books again, because seeing all those characters get their happy ending made me so happy. The ending of this book was just so heartwarming- cute epilogues are literally my kryptonite 💀🙏-

But yeah, this was yet another CP book that I ended up really enjoying- There were definitely a lot of things that weren't really developed that much, in terms of the storyline and characters- but all in all it was a lot of fun to have been able to read about these characters and their conclusions.

[for safety details, check below]

I was confused between 3 or 4 stars bc for more than 50% of this book, I didn't really like the characters. I didn't know why Leon(H) liked Violet(h) what was so special about her.

What was disgusting were the details of how he lost his virginity at 16 and even remembers the name of the woman who took it. How she taught him how to please woman. How he just fuck sex workers, had bought gifts for them in the past blah blah. it was nauseating. I didn't want to know these details specially when he kinda treated Violet the same way by paying her after they had sex. He was so cruel in the beginning and he didn't grovel. Sure she had betrayed him but after knowing the truth I atleast expected some grovel.

Just remembering these details is pissing me off. I didn't like Violet that much either. It just feel like she wasn't guilty enough of what she did to him. Sure I like it that she wasn't a complete doormat but not where it really matters. I would have preferred if she refused to have sex with him when the first time they had sex and he paid her. But again, BBS.

anyway I really like the writing style and would read more from the author.

They are damaged but perfect together
He didn't give her a choice but now he finds he is her monster and he learns he wants her to like him and even love him – but for that he needs to let go of his revenge….
She has cost him everything but he will not let go
Leon is hot and twisted and dark and obsessive
He has met his match and no matter what she did, she is his and he wants everything from her – all he didn't have and all she has lost and he needs to understand that love is giving more than taking
"My forever isn't the fairytale…. My forever is made up of paying penance"
Violet knows she has only exchanged one prison in another but still as angry and resentful as she is' she also finds her jail with much more space for her to breath and her monster to be the one taking care of her and believing in her and her abilities
they go from hatred to trust, from resentful to love and from twisted to steamy
they choose each other
I loved them. In many ways Leon got the worst cards of the once given to the brothers but he made his choices and now he needs to give up his secrets and build something new
You go from resenting his actions to understanding his motives to loving and trusting him' just like Violet
And Violet – who learns to forgive others and herself' who learns to stop being a victim and finds the fighter in her
And the closure we get to all the heart brothers who find their way' even if not conventional' to love and happiness.
This is a dark mafia romance with hot kink and passionate emotions and as wonderful as Charmaine Pauls writes her books – I love her writing!

Spice Level: Medium

Angst Level: Medium
Standalone/Duet/Series: Duet
Cliffhanger: No
Epilogue: Yes, a very satisfying one for the entire Hart family.
My Review: Wow, this book was amazing and I loved it even more than the first in the duet. Leon and Violet’s relationship progresses in a really spectacular way. They had so many lies and a painful betrayal between them, but are able to work through all of it and find an amazing love and respect for each other. There is healing and forgiveness that lead into revelations that lay the foundation for them to create a life and love that is unstoppable. I also really enjoyed the ending and epilogue. We get a wonderful glimpse into the future and see how each of the Hart siblings have created their own slice of happiness within the family. It was sweet and so satisfying, if not a bit bittersweet. I’m sad to say goodbye to all these characters, each of their stories were incredible and I highly recommend the entire series.

Leon and Violet's story was really something. Even really more than I expected. It was complex and complicated, genuine and intense, steamy and sweet, exciting and poignant, and emotional and dark. This couple earned a special place in my heart simply because of how perfect they were for each other in spite of everything and anything that stood in their way, including themselves. Their romance felt like it could have been a fairy tale if only fate and life hadn't decided to muck it up again and again along the way. So yeah, you can expect a few really stunning twists, major drama, some action, juicy tension, sizzling heat and intense emotions as this intoxicating and enticing romance concludes. I am by my own volition posting an objective review.

What a great conclusion to Violet and Leon's story! This book starts right where book one left off with Leon reeling from Violet's betrayal but no less committed to making her his. There's lots of heat and angst as these two work though their issues. I loved Leon's possessiveness and protectiveness over Violet even in light of his otherwise callous treatment of her. I enjoyed seeing these two slowly dropping their guards as well as Leon working hard to right his wrongs. Gus and Elliot get their comeuppance and we get to see Hart siblings come together and finally be the family they never had. Overall, I was satisfied with the way this series got wrapped up, though also sad to say goodbye to this family.

This is a book of betrayal, deception, guilt, vengeance and lust and what a potion that is.
Charmaine once again has character’s with such depth of back story that you are championing both at once.
The shock felt by Leon and the dark depravity in his treatment of Violet leaves you wondering more about each layer of his character.
The raw emotion of what Violet has done and the effects upon her and her feelings are bouncing full of angst and strength off the page.
This book hooks you in and spits you out with a smile and a warmth only the final few chapters can give you. Many battles, a few shakes of Gia required but a ride of your life.
Charmaine never disappoints but Leon could just be my new favourite

I love this conclusion for Violet and Leon's story!
When Leon's darkness come to play after Violet betrayel, my dark heart sing in joy!

This conclusion give out more of the charachters movement. We see the turbulent in both their POV. We see the bad gone to worst in their relationship before things go better to perfectly imperfect.

I love how Charmaine doesn't hold back from Leon's a**holery. Love how Violet was described gradually stronger in her self.

And the black cherry on top? Violet crazy dark explicit drawing! Oh how i would love to see them on pictures! I could only imagine their vivid details!

My black heart weep though for the ending for Gus and Elliot. I need them more bloody 😂😂 yes, i'm that savage

The epilogue? PERFECT!!! although it feels like goodbye to the Hart clan... *sobs

I'm not as articulate with my reviews as others may be, but I know what I like, and the Beauty in Imperfection duology is probably my favourite of the Diamond Magnate Collection.

Buffyanna summed it up for me (read her review if you haven't already). I was going through a roller coaster of emotions, being suspicious of everyone (the next-door neighbour included, what can I say - I have trust issues), despising certain characters, and hoping for their demise, not to mention having a sob session a few times in the book. Once again, I devoured this book in one sitting because I was desperate to know what would happen next. It has just the right amount of "naughty and nice" and a beautiful conclusion to Leon and Violet's story. I don't think I would have coped if there were a third book.

Charmaine Pauls delivered a hero that I loved to hate in Leon Hart.

Leon finds himself dealing with a whirlwind of feelings.  So much anger from Violet’s betrayal. He became ruthless in his endeavors to punish her. But found himself still wanting her.  This fueled his anger further.  And yet Violet withstood his furious storm.  Little pieces of her were chipped away, but she remained steadfast in her reasonings and end game.  She felt the guilt of her actions and accepted her punishment.  Leon most definitely dealt punishments that left deep and emotional wounds.

Leon soon figured out that not all is as it seemed. And when he realizes that Violet has been the target of a sick plan, his harshness begins to melt a bit.  Retribution would be had. Maybe what they have can be real, maybe it’s worth the fight.

When they realize they’re fighting some of the same things and offer a bit of trust, they seem to align with their true feelings.

Violet was such an admirable heroine.  I respected her grit and loyalty.  Leon, while extremely harsh, was a man that you could understand. He was human in his feelings and reactions and made no apologies for them. How he handled his regrets was worthy of his redemption.

These Hart men certainly deliver reading pleasure.
