They pick on her weight/body, tease and torment her constantly, and one of them even drives their car into her and she falls off a cliff. Once Letty is in college she finds out Tate has started there too and is in her films class. Supposedly he’s changed and wants to become friends with her now. They get put on an assignment together to write about sex in films and end up spending a lot of time together.
I just didn’t feel any chemistry with these characters and just never felt connected to the story or the characters. I had a hard time with the writing, it seemed kind of dream-like-esque is the best way I can describe it where time and events kind of happened around the characters and I felt disjointed from the characters. ...more

But sadly this didn’t work for me, I think a bully novella is hard to pull off in that short amount of time/pages. I only got a handful of moments of “bullying” and it just seemed rushed/not really a bully romance because of how quickly that bit was over and we see/read how much the hero is into the heroine that it just wasn’t believable. ...more

I’ve been reading Pen books for years and this was one of the last I hadn’t read yet. I definitely have to be in the right mood to pick up a bully romance and especially a story with highschool characters.
Clay and Liv are both students at a Catholic school in Florida, they’re teammates on the lacrosse team, they both have family hurts in their past, and they’ve also hurt one another over the years. They’re definitely opposites but also have so much in common, including the intense chemistry and passion they share for one another whenever they’re alone together.
I really believed in Clay and Liv’s chemistry! The bully portion wasn’t as heavy as some of Pen’s other books. But this is absolutely an angsty new adult romance, which I love the angst! I did enjoy Liv’s character more, Clay’s character was frustrating in the beginning with her privilege while Liv’s character and her siblings (they’re known as Tryst Six) struggles you feel more. The middle portion of the story was a bit long and felt like it was starting to drag on, I don’t think it needed to be as long as it was. But I did appreciate how well fleshed out both of these characters are! Clay grew on me over time and her and Liv are both just such complex characters with so many emotions and feelings going on! ...more

And especially when newer books haven’t been hitting as well lately, revisiting some favs has been my go-to.
Bully is the first in the Fall Away series, I first started reading Penelope Douglas six years ago with this series and I just love their books so much and revisiting these OG favs is just a great time. I was craving some Fall Away time with the newest Hellbent book dropping in just a couple weeks, which is a spin-off/2nd gen series! Anyways, Bully gave me everything I wanted all over again and it just never gets old.
Tate + Jared have grown up as neighbors, their bedroom windows look into one another’s rooms. But somewhere around them being teens they went from friends to enemies and Tate doesn’t know what happened to make Jared treat her so horribly. After a year away in France, Tate is back for senior year and not putting up with Jared’s crap anymore. I love a friends to enemies to lovers setup and this is that!
All the moments: Fall Away Lane, her driving his car, “pricks in mustangs can still leave scars”, rainstorms, Madman, the Loop, “it’s always been you”, scars on his back, racing cars, good luck charms, possessive and jealous, “Jared was like the 4th of July”, charm bracelet, her lifelines, Madoc, hidden photos, their tree, climbing through each other’s windows.
