It’s been 9 years since Impact happened on earth and we meet Chloe. She was 14 when Impact happened, her parents were killed, and she barely made it out alive with her grandpa. Her grandpa had been a “prepper” for years and so he and Chloe lived on their own relatively safely, yet isolated, for 8 years. The story kicks off with Chloe losing her grandpa and finding herself in a very dangerous situation with no where to go. She ends up meeting Jimmy who saves her and takes her back to the community of farmers where he lives!
Shortly after Jimmy has a proposition for Chloe, come and live with him at his cabin, they can handle the daily chores and workload together, but also be a true partner to him since he’s lonely too. I really liked this take on a “partnership of convenience” if you will! Jimmy is a protector and a bit gruff and closed off (but what hero isn’t in this series ...more

While most of the books in the series can be read as standalones, this book in particular should be read as a follow-up to Citadel, the previous book in the series. This book is also described by the author as having the most traumatic backstories for both main characters.
This series really works for me! They are post-apocalyptic romances set in the near future after a global catastrophe and feature smart, resilient women trying to survive in a new chaotic world and falling in love with strong, gruff, taciturn men!
This book takes place 8 years after Impact, when an asteroid hit Europe, decimating the continent and causing catastrophic effects on the entire planet. Civilization fell apart after Impact and Breanna used her body in any means necessary to protect her younger sister and stay alive. But now with her sister safe and settled (her book is Citadel), Breanna is now free to travel on her own path and works as a messenger and courier. Breanna runs into Aidan a lot, they both do the same work and seem to be covering the same area and taking one another’s jobs.
The last couple books have felt a little different than previous books in the series. Aidan was more outspoken and charming than some of the previous heroes in this series. So I did miss the more cold and stoic heroes ...more

In this we follow people we haven’t seen or met yet in the series, in fact this one could be read as a standalone as it is set away from all of the characters/places we’ve already come to know. In this series, near-future Earth was hit with an asteroid 5 years ago that wiped out an entire continent and set the world into waves of catastrophes and natural disasters. The people left behind have been barely surviving and keeping off the grid for the most part. In this we go to the east coast of the U.S. and meet Delaney (Del) and her older sister Breeana who live there with a small group.
Del is 20 and her older sister has always been the one to protect them, but Del wants to feel important and useful as well and dreams of a day she can take care of someone too. When a group of attackers show up and start killing those around them, Del grabs her sister and makes a run for it. They end up getting helped and reached by Cole, a man Del had run into earlier in the day. They all 3 travel together to a safer, walled-in community and while Cole and Del have started to grow close and share a night together, he leaves in the night to go search for his brother who got in with the wrong crowd. And then we catch up two years later with Del when Cole shows back up!

So this one has a bit of a second chance, which was fun seeing played out in this world! As always with this series, we have a broody closed-off hero which works for me so well! Cole was more talkative than previous heroes in the series and I loved how much he wants Del and lets her know it (once he knows they’re on the same page). This has age gap (she’s 20, he’s 33/34). I love how gritty and dangerous this world is, you really feel their struggles and how they’re trying to survive. Another fav in the series and I could just continue this series for forever! So it’s a good thing the author has plans for even more books in the series! ...more

Praying for Rain is the first book in the Rain trilogy by BB Easton. This series has been on my TBR for years and I finally got around to reading the first book in it! So this is really a pre-apocalyptic setup, following Rain and Wes in the 3 days before the predicted apocalypse is to happen.
The premise was interesting and what had me intrigued! Usually I read post-apocalyptic stories so having this book set before an apocalypse is supposed to happen was unique. We follow Rain in a small town in Georgia, with just days before the apocalypse, the world has kind of gone nuts…abandoned cars, abandoned jobs and businesses, abandoned houses, looting, basically just a wasteland with whatever goes. Rain (or Rainbow) was an interesting heroine from the start, instead of trying to find ways to survive she’s actually not afraid to die and in fact, even looking forward to it. She ends up meeting Wes when he saves her in a certain situation and he is looking for ways to survive and decides he can use/keep Rain around for survival, resources, etc. They set out together to find a bomb shelter he knows of and the story kind of goes from there.
This story is on the shorter side and moves very fast, I did find the relationship a little too insta-love. With how terrible both Wes and Rain’s backstories are, I found it a bit unbelievable how quickly they fall in love and trust one another. Their characters felt very YA and juvenile, but set in like an adult situation if that makes sense? They do have some strange visions/dreams/nightmares regarding the apocalypse which felt jarring and confusing during the audio listen, it would be a bit into the scene and I’d start wondering what I missed when I’d realize they were having some sort of vision/dream instead of it being the present. Which those do come into play towards the end of the story and I’m just not a fan of where the story went. ...more

The story opens with Layne and Travis running into one another while both our surviving. They realize they actually lived in the same town before the Impact, he worked as car mechanic and she was living with her grandparents. Even though they knew one another in the past, Layne is rightfully cautious and wary of others, especially men in this dangerous new reality. So when Travis offers for them to travel together, Layne says no and they go their separate ways. They end up running into one another a bit later and he comes to her aide during sticky situation with drunk strangers. They start traveling together and Layne shows him a warning note she found about Fort Knox, a place where many of the remaining people from their town went to.
I loved this road trip, survival romance! The tension between Layne and Travis is so heightened with both them trying to survive, sharing beds together, and just all the sexual tension growing as well! Travis feels like he’s “too old” for Layne and is so surprised when she wants him to make her feel something good for a change. ...more

In this book we start off back before Impact happened. Olivia’s father is a billionaire who bought himself and Olivia a spot in a former missile silo that was converted into a bunker to outlast. They were among 200 people who were able to live in there when the Impact hit. The bunker has private apartments, gardens, a swimming pool, gym, movie theater, library, school, a clinic, a bowling alley, etc. Complete with food and supplies to last everyone 5 years. Grant, a hired security contractor for the bunker has been Olivia’s kind of/sort of bodyguard. He has taught her how to fight/defend herself and they swim daily together. Now the time has come for them to come out of the bunker and they’re able to go up to the surface.
I really enjoy this author’s post-apocalyptic world, loved seeing the couples and characters from her other books. Grant is a typical hero for this author, a bit quiet and broody but deeply protective over the heroine with the heroine not realizing he has feelings for her. The author’s stories and characters just work for me so well! I loved how protective Grant is over Olivia and their relationship. This one has age gap (she’s 22, he’s 34) and their bond has become so strong throughout the years. I liked seeing the dangers they have to face up on the surface and all that came with that....more

So no surprise that I loved this book and seeing Esther & Zed’s story! This one has a 7-year age gap, single dad hero, and it’s the romance between the heroine and her former stepdad’s brother.

We follow Esther and Zed a couple different times after Impact. Before the Impact, Esther was a freshman in college with dreams of becoming an astronaut. But once the Impact happened, she moved with her family into her stepdad’s cabin in Missouri. At first there were 10 people living in the one-bedroom cabin but now all that remains are 3: Esther, Zed (her stepdad’s brother), and Rina (Zed’s almost 5-year old daughter). Esther never really liked Zed, but now he and his daughter are all she has left.
This one is on the shorter side (170 pages), similar to the first book in the series Haven. I thought this was a perfect length for this couple and their story and really enjoyed them together. Esther has anxiety which wakes her up in the nights, one of those nights she wakes up and Zed wakes up to talk with her, which leads to them arguing, then kissing and falling into bed with one another. The next morning neither really talks about it until the end of the night when they’re giving in again. I really liked seeing Esther try to navigate this new way their relationship was changing. She has come to love and care for Zed and Rina and doesn’t want to picture her life without them. But real dangers are looming ahead for them, including another brutal winter they don’t think they’ll make it through in their isolated cabin.
I really like in this series how real the dangers are for these characters, they have to make rough choices and survive no matter the cost. I loved the addition of his daughter Rina in this one, so sweet, how she calls Esther “Essie”, seeing them rescue Buddy the dog, cameos of the other characters from the series (Cal & Rachel, Mack & Anna, Maria), and the dangers of traveling! ...more

Now living in a very post-apocalyptic world, daily life is dangerous and isolating. Faith and Jackson live and run New Haven Farm together. Faith’s parents actually had built the farm to live off the grid prior to Impact, so they definitely had an advantage over others when the asteroid hit. Faith’s parents always had foster kids living with them and Jackson was one of the troubled teens they had taken in over the years. Faith and Jackson have been in one another’s lives for 9 years now and their relationship dynamic is super interesting right from the start! Leaders by day who don’t really talk or share that much of themselves, but at night they end up in one another’s arms when she sneaks into his room.
I loved getting to see all that was happening in this world the author created. This was my first time reading anything from her and I already want to devour all the rest of the books that take place in this post-apocalyptic world. I loved the tension and angst between Faith and Jackson. While we get only her POV, you can definitely tell his feelings and I loved some of his big-sweeping, swoony speeches and declarations towards the end. You get a layer of action and danger with the story, with supply runs and running into others on the road who are more-than likely not friendly. You feel for the characters and their choices, and can even understand the ways they’ve had to toughen up in the years. I had the best time binging this series the past few days. This is the final book in the series and a lot has been leading up to this book. We get a lI had the best time binging this series the past few days. This is the final book in the series and a lot has been leading up to this book. We get a lot of time covered in this book as we go back to the meeting/beginning of Melina and Azar’s time together, seeing their POVs for quite a few of the events of the previous books. Azar has been the villain for the entirety of the series so getting his story was super fun! I really liked the complex dynamic between him and Melina, one of the human women who works as the healer/doctor/nurse. Their relationship dynamic was intriguing and they definitely had a slow burn for the physical side of their relationship. I liked how Melina saw Azar differently than everyone else, sometimes in a naive way but mostly in a way that allowed him to have his own HEA. It isn’t his instinct to be good or so good things, but I like how he tries for Melina and really wants to please her and make her comfortable, while also willing to listen to her and allow her to teach him.
For being the end of the series I was hoping we got to see more of the couples but we really don’t get much of others in this one. We do see/hear from all the babies as they play a part in the plot with the rift. This was just a fun series that I read exactly when I was wanting it and it just delivered. ...more
Jenny and Mhal’s story was nice because it felt a little different than the other ones in the series. Mhal was being kept as a prisoner of sorts, his mind was being controlled and overpowered and he was acting as guard over one of the human hives. But when he realizes his mate, Jenny, is near, Mhal starts to fight against the mind control so he can connect with Jenny instead. I liked seeing their relationship progress, they are sort of both forced together quickly and have to figure out one another as they go. Mhal whenever in battle form forgets everything that has already happened with Jenny and she has to remind him each time what’s going on and who she is. We also get to see a drakoni need glasses and be very into the babies of the group (which honestly they are all a little bit baby-obsessed for reasons). Super sweet romance and I can’t wait to see what happens for the plot in the final book next! It’s been a fun few days binging this series!...more

I really enjoyed this couple, their relationship was more slowburn because neither understood how to claim/create the bond fully. So of course a little field trip to some of the other couples came to be. Jurik was super attentive and sweet to Rachel and just wanted to make his mate happy, he couldn’t understand why she wouldn’t accept water or other items he’d try and bring her. Rachel is also physically scarred on her face and missing a portion of her arm, the way Jurik loved her was just really sweet and washed away her worries. I like seeing how the babies are already making a difference to the drakoni and the calming sort of connection they have created amongst the group....more

I loved this one! Andrea and Liam are characters we’ve met before in the series and I couldn’t wait for Liam’s story. Liam is drakoni but hasn’t been I loved this one! Andrea and Liam are characters we’ve met before in the series and I couldn’t wait for Liam’s story. Liam is drakoni but hasn’t been in his battle form (aka dragon form) because he didn’t want to lose himself to the rage and confusion after the rift. He’s been passing as human and has learned to speak and communicate with others which makes him definitely a unique drakoni in this series so far. He has been pining after Andrea knowing she is quite possibly his mate for a while but afraid to shift into battle form and claim her because he doesn’t want the mind confusion to click in and for him to forget everything. When Andrea’s younger brother disappears, Liam steps in to help her track him down as they head off to search for him.
I loved Liam and Andrea’s bond and connection. The fact that he can already communicate with her beforehand made for an extra layer in this read. He also remembers quite a lot about drakoni and can explain to her how things work/will go, unlike previous heroes in the series. I can’t wait for the next book, we get a female drakoni for the heroine! ...more

While the beginning of the story was slower for me, I did enjoy the ending and seeing the future opportunities to come!...more

Amy has a bad knee and has always been looked after by others, her sister Claudia (the heroine of book 1) loves her but just wants her safe inside all the time. With her sister busy with her own dragon mate, Amy dreams of a handsome prince rescuing her from her tower and (in the previous book) tosses her panties out for her own dragon to come and rescue her. But when Rast shows up, things don’t go quite as planned. I really liked Rast, he’s a bit more wild than the previous dragon heroes in this series but remembers a lot more from his past and their former world (more so than any of the dragon heroes thus far). I didn’t really care for Amy as much in this one, but she had her moments and by the end started to grow on me once she came into her own. What fascinated me more was the world here growing a bit more, Rast and Amy travel somewhere else and I can’t wait to see what unfolds in the next book....more

I love this dystopian/post apocalyptic earth setting for this series and how the dragons have come to be here. The world/history of how they came to be here through the rift is slowly building throughout the series and I am intrigued with any info we get. Emma is a great heroine, she’s independent and has gotten used to taking care of herself. This book has a bit of an overlap with events at the beginning from the previous book and as the world continues to get built on in each book, I would definitely recommend to read in order. Poor Zohr goes through a lot in this book and how through his pain he still wanted to take care of his mate, Emma, was just so pure and sweet. We get to see/get updates on the previous couples in the series and also got a nice setup for quite a few storylines and books with the multiple epilogues! I will agree with others that the books in this series are probably longer than they need to be, but I’m just enjoying the ride anyways!...more

Sasha reads romance novels and Doc pays attention, he even sets up some “date” moments for Sasha based off some of her fav romance novel scenes. This had me laughing at moments too like when Doc starts calling Sasha “his infant” because she starts calling him “baby” and he doesn’t understand the difference in the endearment term. ...more

This was my first read by the author, N.K. Jemisin reads have been on my TBR for a while but I was always kind of putting them off since I’ve heard others say the 2nd person POV was hard and I was a bit intimidated. But omg I am obsessed! This style of POV pulled me in right away and reminded me of being in a video game, which I loved for the storytelling. I didn’t go in reading the synopsis and honestly think it’ll just add to your enjoyment if you don’t. So I just will be vague in my review instead. ...more
