The heroine was relatable, and her quirky best friend was funny. The love interest was okay; I hope he's more rounded out and involved in the story in the next books. Dahlia was really funny, but a couple moments seemed trying to hard.
The author referred to BIPOC characters' race multiple times, but never referred to anyone as white. A couple comments about women were off. Nothing outrageous, but things just hit me as weird while I was reading.
I already have the other books, so I'm going to attempt book two because I really liked the mystery and setting. Hopefully the other stuff improves....more

I was also very annoyed by the result of the love triangle. Glad the triangle is done, but why spend so much of three books focusing on her and Beau together to have her choose cardboard-personality Teddy? She's going to have to write Teddy much more into the next book to get me on board because he's one of the most flat characters in the series. So far, I know he's her best friend who had a crush on her, totally hot now, a mailman, and from a dairy farm. What makes him boyfriend material though??...more

I loved the concept of the bookstore cafe and that the MCs are twins who were separated at birth. They're lives coming together is really interesting. There wasn't much to the mystery. The MCs just sort of stumble on figuring things out, and it's not done very artfully. A lot of the book is dedicated to the main female character's anxiety, and her internal monologue is freaking out most of the time. Since hers is the only perspective, it felt repetitive. I'm still going to continue the series because I think there are great bones here. I hope the mystery is meatier in the next one....more

Carrie is insufferable as a character, and the mystery was barely there and just badly written. I was uncomfortable with how the author talks about homeless people, like they were a problem to be solved and not just people. Yes, homeless people are in libraries, but so are a lot of other people; problems come from every group of people that comes into our library. The author heavily relies on stereotypes, and Carrie isn't remotely believable as a librarian. ...more

There's another suspicious death, a legendary heist, and all the small-town goodness of Cedar River.
