A fantastic gothic fantasy novel filled with intrigue, magic, emotion, and romance! Everything about this book was perfection, the writing, the characters, the suspense/mystery, the romance, the plot twists. If there's something Kat Dunn does well, it's writing a great sapphic historical novel. I cannot sing Bitterthorn's praises enough, go read this one!!!...more

Seriously.
Shon Faye tackles the very real and serious issues that trans people have faced historically and still face today, and brilliantly explains how liberation for trans people would improve the lives of everyone in our society.
Faye's writing is engaging, well explained and clearly heavily researched. It's what I would class as pretty much perfect.
This book made me thing more about the struggles transgender people face and about how I, myself, as a cis woman, can be a better ally to trans people.
I highly recommend this to everyone, definitely one of my top reads of 2022....more

Rereading it again two and a half years later, I'm almost in tears, Georgia's experience so similar to my own. I feel more comfortable and valid in my aro/ace-spec-ness (wherever on the spectrums I fall).
This remains to be my favourite YA book, one that I think everyone should read....more

I've never related to an autistic character more, so many of the lines in this novel felt as though they had been plucked from my head. The one thing I didn't like was the use of the term "aspergers" (and I know other autistic people who didn't like that either). Overall, a new favourite book of mine, please read this!!!...more

I'd read her shopping list if I could.
Now, I was lucky enough to receive an extended excerpt of this book, and considering it was only 5 chapters long, you'd not expect me to give it too high a rating.
But that's where you're wrong. Everything Marie Lu writes is consistently epic. Her writing isn't forced -it flows smoothly, and her openings always have you hooked and interested pretty much straight away.
Call me biased because I love her work, but this book honestly could be special. Obviously I haven't read the full thing yet (I will once it's released *wink*), but I'm already getting a vibe that this book will be massive.
For starters, the main character uses sign language -something I've barely seen in a fantasy/sci-fi book- and Marie Lu always writes these things well and shows good representation.
Second of all, from reading the description, I initially thought this book was going to be similar to Shadow and Bone by Leigh Bardugo, but from the excerpt, I didn't get that vibe at all!But if you do like Bardugo's writing and plots, maybe check this one out?
And finally... Marie Lu just keeps getting more popular, and is finally getting the well deserved acknowledgement and praise that she deserves.
To sum it up: READ THIS BOOK.
Thank you to Netgalley for giving me this excerpt to read and review. #netgalley...more
