What's all this higMy first book by the author and I was wondering what was all the rave about. Unfortunately, it did not live up to the expectation. What's all this high rating all about then?
Okay, I admit: the opening scene was mesmeric and I grew excited thinking of how it would all pan out. However, it went DOWNHILL soon after. I couldn't comprehend how the author could demean such a character so much and I'm not talking about the act (view spoiler)[where the Hero forced the heroine to do a blowjob on him in front of his friends, with her practically naked. (hide spoiler)] No, I'm talking about after ...! It confused the hell out of me how the author could switch the direction of the story and shove what happened under the rug as if it never happened. What came after the horrifying scene was a normal high school boy asking a girl on a date scenario. Not how (view spoiler)[he stripped her bra and fondled her breasts in front of his friends, threatening to rape her if she didn't give him a blowjob. (hide spoiler)] I simply could not understand how the heroine could simply forgive the Hero for what he did and became gooey and suddenly crushing after him.
Not only was this a very long book (over 450 pages), there's no substance. No strong characters. For me, whether I like the MCs would make or break the book. In this case, even though initially I really liked Zoey, she lost all my respect soon after. And when that happened, I couldn't picture anything good happening. This was a sorry case for me....more

This was a dark high school romance. It's typical A.Z. story; Hero bullying heroine endlessly. The writing was flawless, words just flew like the wind. The couple loathed each other immensely but couldn't keep their hands off of each other. I did not give 5 stars because I was pissed off with the Hero - Landon - believing the worst of the heroine - Kailani - even though deep down he knew her for what she was; different, honest, innocent, genuine. And I hated the fact that the heroine would always melt the second Landon as much as touched her. I mean, have some dignity, will ya? Let him grovel. What he did was unforgivable.
Landon met Kailani in high school. She was assigned to be his tutor. At first, he was suspicious of her; I mean, he was the famous child actor - how come this beautiful girl did not know who he was? Was she pretending? Everybody had their own interior motives, right? Turned out, she didn't. She really didn't know who he was and treated him like a normal boy; which he enjoyed. One fateful night, a terrible incident happened at Landon's infamous parties. (view spoiler)[Kailani woke up naked - next to Landon and another guy ... with condom wrappers everywhere. (hide spoiler)] Landon was furious as he thought he'd been set up, whereas Kailani was deeply hurt and confused as to what had happened to her. Unable to face the endless taunts and bullying at school, Kailani fled to her home city in Hawaii for two years. Fast forward to this day, Kail was back with her mother and rich stepfather. And guess what, her house was right next to Landon's. Things couldn't get any icier. Everybody at school jeered and taunted her, especially Audrey - the queen of the school. But now Kail was different, she's stronger, she's meaner and she wouldn't let anyone bully her into anything. She's here to destroy the people who hurt her two years ago. She's here for revenge.
There were a lot of twists and turns which I liked. It's a good book overall. I enjoyed it.

However, when I first read the blurb, I skipped it (I wasn't into older heroines - albeit in this case only by a year). After finishing the earlier 2 books of this series, I couldn't get my hands on Georgia's story. I loved her character from the first 2 series. She's responsible, 'mama bear type' who took care of her friends, she's dependable and had her aspirations at an early age. She'd been going out with her then boyfriend since she was in high school. In this book though, the said boyfriend just dumped her - cheated on her, in fact - saying she was boring and 'too nice'. Could you believe the nerve? Anyways, in Georgia's story, she met Logan (Reece's younger - playboy - of a brother who did go around aka slept around). I didn't care for him much in the earlier books because he was still in high school and was practically called a man whore. This time though, the author managed to portray the H as brooding, mysterious, closed off and super alpha (jealous and a bit controlling). I loved him! They had amazing chemistry and couldn't deny the attraction. But Georgia couldn't shake off the feeling that he's not the typical guys she would go for, hence that couldn't be right. Except she couldn't be more wrong.
I especially enjoyed this being a one person POV (from Georgia's). And (don't kill me!) I wanted to see Annie's story ... despite her being the worst friend anyone could have ... perhaps the great Sophie Jordan could twist her character around??? The only reason I didn't give it the full 5 stars was because I wanted to a longer book hence more climax and twists. This was a short (300 pages) one that I gulped in less than a day. ...more

The plot was interesting, the characters were fun to read (they were total opposites but they did complement each other), the side characters were also good. Although I enjoyed reading about the first part of the book, the second one kinda disappoint me. However, I felt the whole thing was a bit flat for me. It was entertaining reading about their high school interactions and then their relationship. Kyle was a regular playboy jock who were used to girls falling all over him. Courtney was the more serious one, a writer who wanted to be a journalist. These two couldn't be more different but somehow they found solace in each other. To top my dissatisfaction, the whole reason for their breaking apart was inconsequential; it was utterly insignificant and should not warrant their years of estrangement. There was no angst whatsoever. I think you could skip this one. ...more

It was a train wreck. But I couldn’t stop reading. Am I a mess? This definitely was a dark, dark romance between college school kids. One thing I can’t believe I’m even complaining is: there’re just too many sex scenes! The story lacked its growth due to that. I wish I could see beyond all those chasing and slapping and hitting and getting off (yeah, if you can’t stand ‘forced’ / ‘consensual non-consensual sex’- drop this one). I wanted to know more about the main couple’s chemistry, their story, not what they do in the forest or in the bedroom. So, while I finished this book all through the end (and onto the next one), I wished and wished and wished there was more that it.
The story was stemmed from a dare. Sebastian, the football captain, was challenged to sleep the loner-weirdo-asian-virgin-girl. It may looked like he was goaded, but deep inside, he’s been eyeing her, there’s something about her that called out to him. (It’s their kink. I didn’t know people with the same fetishes could identify one another from afar. Apparently they do in this story.) So the whole book was mainly about their obsession with each other. While it also included side characters like Naomi’s mom who’s battling cancer, her non-existant ‘mafia’ dad? (which she’s trying to find), her other supposed friends at school, it didn’t go that far in terms of plot development. Hence my 3 stars.

A witty, beautiful Asian girl who was forced to join the cheerleading squad because of the push by her mother. (Father is out out of the picture). She’s cool. She’s sassy. She doesn’t conform to the her squad’s bitchy and mean team captain so obviously, she wasn’t liked. She’s also a loner.
