I mean, I feel that both MCs fit each other well, however, there were no growth within their relationship from beginning til the end. Yes, they were both physically attracted to each other but that's it. Even when there was a former mistress in the picture, it did not create any build up to the story whatsoever. So, a bit disappointed with this one....more

In fact, the story did not go according to the plot. I was expecting the heroine to have grown to be a beautiful woman but no, she was still the plain girl she was growing up. I loved the Hero though, he seemed like a gruff and aloof man (which I loved in my Heroes). Story - wise: no angst, a bit plain and flat. ...more

Still not impressed. The romance, the supposed heart of the story, fizzled like a damp match. Sure, the plot had its moments, but the characters? Cardboard cutouts with zero spark. Sure, they were attracted to each other, but chemistry - wise? Zero. There was a glimmer of potential conflict, some missed opportunities for angst to truly sizzle. The heroine could have, you know, grown a backbone and walked away, forcing the hero to grovel. But alas, that delicious tension never materialized. Disappointing....more

However, somehow I never liked it when we get to see the Hero's inner feelings so early in the book ... it made them seem 'weak'. I would have loved more mystery; us guessing what the Hero was thinking (assuming the worst) but then, saw his true self in the end. But no, the MCs were best friends, him calling her "babes" and her calling him "dildo". This fact alone killed off any notion of chemistry between the couple. Yes, the heroine was a babe; I mean, she's gorgeous. But the Hero? He seemed weak, overwhelmed by the awesomeness of the heroine, no kidding. What's worse: he called her such a hard one to live with - no wonder her mom treated her that way. That was a low blow, I think, and the fact that the heroine forgave him that easily was another turn off. I'm quite disappointed with this book. The title of the book was irrelevant. I was expecting some mean - nasty stuff being done towards the heroine but it proved to be just a normal type of story with no sufferings at all. ...more

It's better than Artair's story but no better than Cavan's (the oldest brother). So far ... at least. The plot was interesting enough. Hero (Lachlan) was tasked to bring back the hellion heroine (Alyce who had resumed a new name and identity Terese). He had the worst opinion of her and couldn't wait to get this job done as quickly as possible. Upon arriving at the nunnery, he found no Alyce but the beautiful sister Terese and unknowingly fell in love with her. (view spoiler)[Unbeknownst to Lachlan, sister Terese was Alyce and she also found herself falling in love with the charming Lachlan. I loved these stories where the couple came from opposing families who were at war, with one oppressing the other. However, I did not like the way the Hero could simply kiss the heroine and she would simply fall to her feet worshipping his manhood. I guess, that was the case for this entire book. Ranulf, the Hero, due to his childhood trauma, was unable to trust anyone - let alone the heroine - whose house was under his siege. He was hurt when he was a boy by his father and his mother left him, therefore he had trust issues. Even though the heroine again and again did not betray his trust, he was always suspicious. Unrelenting - or rather "stupid" I think - the heroine grew the patience of a saint. She waited for him to accept her and finally admitted to his affection for her. Ughh, this took like ... forever. But I guess, this was a good book all in all. I enjoyed it....more

I hated the Hero the moment I first read the first chapter. I thought my first impressions could be wrong so I decided to read further. Nope, I still despised him. I can't appreciate Heroes who put the heroine down by talking down to her (verbal abuse). Some people may say "It's a game of wits, who could throw the meanest come-backs." But I don't see the love. I don't event feel the couple has any chemistry. True, the heroine did gave him some of her witty retorts but the words that he said were truly degrading. Secondly, I like my heroines on the thinner side. This one, not only was she vertically challenged (sorry, I'm being mean), she's a little bit plump (hey, I love a little bit of love handles!) but she wore clothes that were too bright, too colorful, too preppy, too everything (imagine sequins paired with brightly patterned skirt with a pair of shoes with yet another different color). Yikes! And she's supposed to be a wedding gown designer. For one holding such a profession, she didn't have any clue how to dress at all. Hence, I couldn't - for the life of me - comprehend how the Hero (who's supposed to be this filthy rich, handsome, tall and sexy man ever saw anything sexy or attractive with this lady. She didn't even carry herself well.
Back to my first point, the Hero kept digging at the heroine verbally, dissing her from left to right. That's not right, bro. This was an unfinished read....more

My second book by the author. 3 Stars. Not as good as Eyes of Silver, Eyes of Gold Read my review here
This book! The story itself was a runaway train, hurtling towards a thrilling climax. It kept me glued to the pages, desperate to see where it all ended. But much like a delicious bowl of chili that forgot the sour cream, there was something missing.
The main characters...well, let's just say they weren't my cup of herbal tea. We had our stoic Native American dude, a walking encyclopedia of unfamiliar customs. On the other side, the beautiful white woman who, shocker, wasn't a damsel in distress (good for her!).
Now, I tried, really. I cracked open my mental coconut and tried to see things from their perspectives. But chapter after chapter, I felt like a city slicker lost in the desert. Their whole dynamic was as foreign to me as, well, a cactus convention.
Look, I'll fully admit I have some stereotypical weeds growing in my garden. Maybe a John Wayne movie marathon in my youth left its mark. But the disconnect between me and the characters was just too vast. It's like the author wrote a fantastic adventure story, but forgot to cast the actors!
So, if you're looking for a plot that'll grab you by the reins and take you on a wild ride, this book delivers. But if relatable characters are your must-have ingredient, you might find this one a little dry....more

It was way too long before anything happened. The story was not interesting enough to sustain that kind of length (close to 300 pages). I didn't feel the chemistry between the main characters and that's a huge thing for me to like any books. I felt that the story was super stretched. How could two normal, consenting, normal adults sleep with each other every night for 3 months without sex? It's totally bogus. ...more

This was an okay-ish story. There was no angst nor tension between the couple, well, not that much anyway. It was more like a 'mystery' story - with the author trying to keep the readers curious about who's been after the heroine.
