I loathe arrogant Frances, and don’t want to continue with this.

I am delighted that the author decided to pen this continuation, because I was not ready to leave Kylie, Mark, Daan, Fiona, Ollie and Seb. I REALLY wanted (needed?) to know what was going to happen to each of them.

There are numerous characters to keep track of, along with all of the profuse details that pertain to them. Whether or not those details add anything to the story is a whole other question.
It was a good decision to listen to the audio version. It allowed most of the unimportant minutia to wash right over me.
This story did not illicit much meaningful discussion by my book club. Comments mostly consisted of 'how terrible", "what a disgrace" and "how could this have happened". The discussion rapidly ground to a halt.
The story was an important one, but I did not care for the execution of it. It DOES however make me want to watch the movie or the documentary.

There are too many storylines and too many characters in this book. I am 55 pages in, and I am on my third storyline. The book specifically states that chapters 7 & 9 take place in 1993, but doesn't tell you when the other chapters are taking place. In the past? In the future? Concurrently? It certainly adds to the confusion.
Here are all 14 characters to date: Alice Lake Children: Jasmine, Kai, Romaine Frank (aka guy who has lost his memory) Derry Dynes Child: Danny
Lily Monrose Carl John Robert Monrose (missing husband) The WPC (Policewoman)
Unnamed Parents Mum and Dad Children: Gray (sometimes Graham), Kirsty, Tony, Pam
I have read several novels by this author. It seems like there is always a payoff at the end, but the process of getting there can be hard work. I wasn’t willing to put in the effort this time – especially since I was having a hard time understanding the narrator, and all the different accents she used. I could not understand the names half the time. Carl? Kyle? Kai? Derry or Danny? They all sounded the same.
NOTE: Somebody should proofread this. His thick hazel hair was damp. Somehow I doubt he has HAZEL hair.

It is very easy to become muddled in this dual timeline story. All of the characters from 1966 appear in the present day story – but their names are different. Girls now have married names, boys are referred to as Mr. So-and-So, nicknames have become Proper names, their children's names need to be kept straight.

Also, I found myself rolling my eyes several times throughout the story. My biggest “unbelievable” is the fact that Annie dithers around (view spoiler)[after finding Aunt Frances diary (hide spoiler)] instead of IMMEDIATELY sitting down and reading the entire thing. Yeah, right.
I think this book would be better read than listened to, so that you could easily go back to figure out who the heck these people are and how they are related to each other.
