Which is a bummer, seeing how the last one left me all emotionally involved. Court, sadly, pushed me to annoyance. It's too much. Too many revelations, too many 'that's it, I've had enough, I'm not that person anymore, it ends here' moments, and frankly too many side characters in situations where they had no purpose. I had the feeling that at some point the character traits got tangled up, since some of the main figures suddenly felt off, compared to the previous books. The plot in itself is still good in my opinion. I just wish it hadn't felt as rushed and, at times, random. Still love Hudson, though and his POV chapters, albeit rare, were probably my favourite.
(Side note: I'm all for shorter chapters but some of them felt too short, which I think might have added to the feeling of it being rushed. 6 chapters per book as in Crave might not have been enough, but up to 150 definitely feels like too much - but that is very much just my subjective take on the matter!)
I still can see people being invested and loving this. However, I can't deny that I'm a bit disappointed now... ...more

Halloween takes Pumpkin Spice very literal and I'm all here for it. I love a good sentient object romance and this book basically gives us not only one but two stories. There are the three sentient pumpkins on one side (oh and thank you to the author for making this a MMMF rather than a strict reverse harem), and the very sugary not so sweet ManCandy.
Quick read with lots of puns and delicious, albeit hilarious spice....more

Not my favorite, not bad either. The characters work, the writing is good… I just didn’t find myself super interested in it. The only part that really got a reaction out of me was when the mated man did sth a mated man should never do in a book in my opinion. And that’s just what it is, my personal subjective opinion. Because I can actually see other people enjoying this book very much. With how many vampire novels I’ve read lately, that one just didn’t stick out to me either way. ...more

Yes, even those that are miserable about it don’t think about it 24/7, I promise
This was painfully fat phobic! No, being fat doesn’t equal eating more. No, no one is in more danger during food shortages when a plus size person is around. No, just bc we have more weight doesn’t mean we need less food to sustain us.
I’m so angry - both at this book and me for not DNFing. The fact that I continued only cause I wanted to read the rest of the series …

And I have already determined that I'll read all the books in the Exodus series. Thrill of the Hunt is good, captivating, deliciously dark and depraved. It just wasn't my favourite for very subjective reasons, including the fact that I can be very difficult with writing styles and this one just wasn't quite it for me. I still enjoyed the book and it did have some of the darker twists which I very much liked. Which is why I can definitely see this being a favourite for many dark romance readers. ...more

3.75 although I feel like this is impossible to rate...
Of all the weird, dark, concerning books I've read and loved, Fallen Under might have been the3.75 although I feel like this is impossible to rate...
Of all the weird, dark, concerning books I've read and loved, Fallen Under might have been the one that left me the most unsettled. Not for its darkness, necessarily, but for how it messes with the head.
I have to admit that I might have DNFed, had I not read reviews that talked about how there is a point when you question everything you thought you knew about the story. And I am so glad I pushed through because YES. It's true.
In hindsight, the things that had thrown me off suddenly made sense.
The FMC is vague and without contour but still made it possible to fall into her story. Which this is. It's her story. So I had no option but accept her view of things, the lease through which she sees the other characters, however unaccounted for it might seem at times.
Without giving much depth to the characters, the author managed to create dynamics that were equally off-putting and weirdly understandable. The book takes what it needs, the plot is at no point drawn out artificially and has no urge to resolve everything.
This is a rollercoaster and I can't lie, I am still a bit shaken after getting off the ride.
Sadly, I struggled a bit with the writing style. I admit that, knowing what I know now, even the rather straight-forward, retelling type of writing makes sense. It read, at parts, like a diary. However, I personally feel like it could have done with just a little more polishing, but that is my very subjective take.
Overall, I enjoyed reading Fallen Under and can see it being loved by many dark romance girlies who are in for a little suspense and a lot of mindfuck.

My song for Scorpion>: Silhouette by Aquilo
”If you go, there would be nothing left inside me. So stay, Zalak. Fight me. Hate me. Do whatever you need to do to make yourself feel better. But don’t leave.”
I knew I would love this book from the moment I saw the fan art. And the way it did not let me down has me love it just the more for it.
”You don’t need to be alone to find yourself. Loving someone is being there to help them if they get lost along the way. It’s about growing together and becoming two different puzzles that create a similar picture.”
The author has taken a rather simple premise – second chance love that got divided by her strict family – and given it this amazing twist. Now, the FMC is the world’s best sniper and knows how to hold herself, no longer dependent but with a large amount of baggage to make up for it.
”I kept thinking you’d come back. And you did. But you never came to me. Not a single call. Not a text. Every single morning when I wake up, I feel sick to my stomach while I check my phone to see if you’ve died. And every night, I torture myself thinking that the next time I see you will be when you’re in a casket.”
The MMC does not only have Draco vibes but is the bad guy we love. Nothing morally grey about his occupation, he has no qualms taking over the family business that is all black and illegal. And still he’s simping for her in a way that has me weak.
’We were never done. We were always meant to come back to each other.’
The plot combines forced proximity and awkward rekindling with anxiety and the dangers of the world they live in. Somehow they get tangled in the mess that is their lives and it is beautiful to watch how it only makes them realize there is no getting away from each other.
”You want honesty, I’ll give you honesty. We have both come too far to speak in riddles. You’re mine. I’m yours. That’s how it was before, and how it is tonight, tomorrow, and every day after that.”
The writing is so good. It’s my first book from this author, although I’ve heard a lot about her. She has a talent for giving us quotes that slap so hard and the dialogues are as intense as beautiful.
’In this moment, we’re untouchable. There’s no death, no war, no pit of despair waiting for us to drown in. But there are two things I know to be true. She would kill for me, and I would do far worse for her.’
I have miiiinor points of critique and I am very sure most people don’t even mind. During some of the spice scenes I was rather confused by the logistics… not that it did any harm to how good they were. Also, the author reliably confused the words debrief and brief every time. (A briefing is before, a debrief is after a mission/project/…). As I said, it’s minor but unfortunately I’m weird like this and was thrown off by it.
That being said, I am positive that normal people who don’t get as hung up on stuff like this can love this book even more. I especially see the Dramione girlies devour this one
Scorpion is, so far, my favorite from the Exodus series and I can’t wait to read the rest of it, hoping there will be more gems like this one. ...more

LOVED it. Yet another Lauren Biel book I devoured.
”Fuck me like you hate them, Karma.”
Karma is one of Lauren Biel’s darker grey novellas. Having read more than half of her catalogue by now, one might think the risk for repetitiveness might arise but NO. Not with Lauren Biel. She always comes up with something new
’I like them a bit unhinged.' (me too Lauren, me too)
Both the FMC and MMC are built up so well. The characters have depths and nuances that can be found in the details, allowing the story to have contours without getting too long. The victim FMC with a knack for vengeance and a good boy turned bad MMC who is obsessed with his pet rabbit? I had no idea this combination could hit so good but here we are! They are fun and unhinged and he is weirdly sweet and she’s sweetly weird in my favorite depraved way.
’Did I just say that? Absolutely. Did I mean it? Without a doubt.
Once again, Lauren Biel masters the art of less is more by providing exactly the info necessary to dive into the story without feeling the need to provide too much details in terms of the framework it’s set in.
’I haven’t felt like a good girl to anyone in a long time.’
Quick, dark read with hot spice, well done unaliving and characters that should maybe not be as lovable as they are. And a very special pet rabbit that stole my heart
Loosely set in a world that hosts themed stories by a variety of authors, I can’t help but be intrigued by the other books now.
