The one who likes to take people for a ride I was almost done the story before I realized that Ginerva/Janie was the crazy friend from Tenn and Lark. The one who likes to take people for a ride with a shovel in the trunk ; )
Turns out she's been on the run for 5 years from Lucio the disappointing husband of a few hours. Lucio was 23 at the time and Ginerva was 17ish. He barely knew her and decided to teach her a lesson for something unimportant. He brings a ho-bag to the house on the wedding night and spends the night with the ho instead of his wife. Ginerva though has too much pride to stand for that and now she has a broken heart because she had hoped to play happy family with Lucio. I don't think she loved him at the time, more the idea of him. Still it sucked but she fled using the skills her father taught her. She reinvents herself as Janie. Lucio tracks her down 5 years later, now that he is the head of 'The Body' as they call the mafia in the book. There's lots of other stuff going on in the story including a secret vigilante group. SO it kept my interest even after I knew Lucio would be forgiven. Ginerva is pretty stubborn, so Lucio really has to prove he's changed. There's also a side romance/marriage-in-trouble that plays out towards the end where the story would have started to get a little boring otherwise. I felt Lucio did redeem himself and it was all very sweet by the end. Janie was a fun character. She's pretty OTT special snowflake but fun.
Safety is good after the initial not-good bit ; ) (view spoiler)[Lucio did have sex with Chiara, the tramp he brought home on his wedding night. But then told her to hit the road the next morning. Don't worry, Ginerva made sure she got her just desserts heh-heh. Then he didn't have sex again till he and Ginerva get back together. Of course Ginerva and her friends might have had something to do with that, ha ha. Ginerva lost her virginity to some stranger from a bar. She has other brief flings but nobody really turns her crank like Lucio of course. Still I really appreciated that the author not only DIDN'T make her still a virgin, but gave her a decent sexual life away from the Lucio. Yeah! (hide spoiler)] There is violence but it's left more ambiguous. Nothing too visceral. ...more

But Butcher stole the stage every time he was on page. I loved the way the author delved into just what the repercussions would be if you had no emotions. This probably could be a stand alone, but I doubt it would be as much fun without at least reading the previous 2 books and maybe even 'Willow' from the Foster Girls series.
Raine and Butcher have been hooking up for almost 2 months when she finds out that the benefits thing they have going isn't what she thought it was. Butcher teaches her to never trust him again and after the terror he subjected her to, well, he's going to have to WORK! to change her mind.
Butcher is the 'Sceptor' to Burr's Crown. He will be Burr's right hand man and help him to banish the the evil Fae for the rest of his reign. But Butcher is a self made mean-ass biker dude who is not about to bow down to some king of the Fairies.
Burr confronts Butcher after what he does to Raine (view spoiler)[(kidnaps her and threatens to torture her and maybe even kill her, calls her mean things) (hide spoiler)]. He frees Butcher of the evil Fae and as a consequence it's the first time Butcher has had emotions since he was a little boy. He has no idea how to deal with them. He now realizes that he wants to be a part of Raine's life and the baby they've created. I loved Raine's mother's character too.
Safety is quite good. (view spoiler)[There's no OM/OW stuff. Butcher has only had sex twice and didn't like it until Raine whom he can't seem to get enough of. Raine is NOT a virgin. Yeah! She is used to a healthy sex life and even keep condoms in her office for when she goes out after work. (hide spoiler)]...more

As you know from the last book, Burr is the king of the Fae. And the Fae in this series are wee tiny fairies with sarcastically dry wit. Burr has had everything come easy to him his whole life. Now at 33 he feels it is time to find his Queen. But he has a preconceived idea of what to expect his queen to be like. She will be the MOST beautiful, MOST graceful, MOST intelligent etc etc . What she won't be is a little mousy plain slightly pudgy baker who barely passed high school like Daisy.
But we the reader know Daisy to be a sweet natured joyful glass half full kinda gal who may not be runway beautiful, but is beautiful in her own way.
Now Burr just needs to catch up to what everyone else sees. And by the end you understand that he did see Daisy but for some reason fought it. I didn't feel the author really gave a good reason as to why he would have tried so hard to keep Daisy at arms length.
He comes across as a little slow on the uptake. But he starts to see that he really isn't 'all that' like he thought he was. He's just another user who feels entitled without having really earned it. He follows Daisy to where she runs to and muddles around till he starts to learn the true values in life. Daisy blossoms in another town where the people don't have preconceived notions of what or who she is because they've been around her, her whole life. I thought at first that it was kind of a paranormal thing that was making the men in that town so attracted to her. But the author never goes there.
I did love all the little Fae details and there's a kitten.
Safety is better than I thought it would be. (view spoiler)[There is nobody for Burr after he sleeps with Daisy for the first time. He does get engaged to an ex of his who plays him like a fool. But he barely even kisses her and tells her he wants to wait till after the wedding, just to put her off. It was kinda unbelievable that he still didn't wonder at his own actions. The ex turns out to be an evil skank who gets her just desserts. He also used to bring girlfriends with when he would come back to town to visit as a way of keeping his interest in Daisy at bay. Daisy is unfortunately a virgin. The mean girls in this one were beyond cartoony. (hide spoiler)]...more
'Bitch' as Harmony's brother like's to call him, had a sad sack childhood. As the son of a famous rock star he learned that women all suck and are out'Bitch' as Harmony's brother like's to call him, had a sad sack childhood. As the son of a famous rock star he learned that women all suck and are out to get you. But this doesn't really make sense after how he stood up for Willow in the last book. I mean he must realize now that not all women are like his exes or Nurie the evil OW from the last book. So it made him seem a little stupid that he made such egregious leaps in logic about Harmony (who just happens to be one of Willow's closest friends!).
This series differs from the last in that Harmony and some of her family are Fae touched. So if she opens herself to a man she forms a bond (and other bonuses) that will forever link them together mentally.
He and Harmony have a series of one night stands over a couple months. Harmony is a virgin and that kinda soured the book a bit for me. It made him seem even stupider to think the worst of her after she gives him her virginity. I mean do you really think someone who saved her hymen till her mid twenties is gonna be a gold digging skank??? All Harmony was guilty of was showing up late to the last of their rendezvous dates at the bar. She had a flat tire dude! He thinks she's playing games by making him wait so he takes the mean girl/town bicycle and Harmony's arch nemesis into the bathroom for a quick shag. Because of the bond Harmony accidentally allowed to form between them, Harmony feels every bit of his thoughts as he's shagging the Teresa the skank. And she's a HUGE skank. Maybe even more of a cartoony villain than Nurie was.
He goes on to refute her baby being his, because he had a vasectomy. And then tells others that she is a crazy dangerous loon because she showed him her Fae powers. He disappears from Harmony's life for the entire pregnancy. He goes to help his famous rock star dad. When he sees a picture of Harmony's baby girl, he knows the baby is his. Then the story really gets rolling.
I thought he did some lovely groveling and I loved the introduction of his dad to the story. BUT... But, I didn't really think he understood the magnitude of what he did when he shagged Teresa in the bathroom. There's a big deal made of it being Teresa the evil chick who has bullied Harmony since they were little girls. But it didn't really matter to me that it was her. It could have been anyone and bothered me just as much. Because his response was SO hugely out of proportion to what he perceived to be Harmony 'playing games' with him, that I would worry about what he would do next time he panties in a bunch over something Harmony did. And his dad admits that he was the one who taught 'Bitch' that of a woman does you wrong you just go immediately to the next one and shag her.
It bothered me and I know the author tried really hard to fix that wrong. But I still felt like he hadn't learned his lesson.
But I still really enjoyed the story and couldn't put it down.
Safety is meh. (view spoiler)[Harmony is a virgin. She makes more sense as a virgin than Willow because she was always fearful of accidentally bonding with someone if they had sex. That and the fact that Teresa made a point of shagging any guy who took an interest in Harmony. One good thing was Teresa got rail roaded out of town and beat up a few times in an entertaining way. Hatch shags Teresa in the bar bathroom. But he never has sex with anyone else after that. The author kinda glosses over that saying he just isn't interested. You'd think a guy who is used to picking up women and discarding them like tissues would be worried when he goes for the majority of a year without sex?!? Not that I want him too but it just didn't make sense. And I would have appreciated it more if he had Harmony on his mind whenever he tried to date others. He was married to a gold digger and dated a gold digger in high school and his mother and step mother were gold diggers. So there is a lot of precedence set. (hide spoiler)]...more

Gideon and Lyra have been together since high school and they have had the same set of friends just as long... but are they really friends? It was a fun easy read but I did skim a fair bit in the second half.
Lyra and Gideon have recently moved in together and like to throw parties for their friends from high school. Usually they are together all the time but Lyra got called in to work and arrives late for the party... but just in time to hear Gideon say some stuff that was disloyal to her. He didn't have her back. In fact most of her so-called friends didn't have her back either.
I do love this author's stuff, but it is a formula and so sometimes it gets kinda boring towards the end. Gideon grovels nicely and their life together moves forward while their friends.... not so much.
Safety is fine. (view spoiler)[Gideon was just trying to spike his so-called friend's guns to make him lose a bet. It was childish and his friends are childish. And Lyra schools him better. No OW/Om stuff except for one skanky friend who is determined to get in the pants of all her male high school friends. But Gideon seriously isn't interested even though he briefly gave her the impression that he was. (hide spoiler)]...more

Maddock and Ava have been happily married for years with two little boys. But the last half a year he's been working stupid hours and taking Ava and the boys for granted so much he's like a stranger. The truth comes out that her fears are true. He's been spending all his away time with a coworker that Ava warned him about having a sexual interest in him.
So the story starts out with her being crushed and leaving him and him claiming that he never did anything with the OW.
But nothing is really as it seems...

We are introduced to the female protagonists in that series when Willow moves to Harbor's End to get away from Decker, her ahole husband of one day.
Decker tricks Willow into marrying him to fulfill the requirements of his father's will. He thinks lying to her and using her will be fine because he will be giving her a bucket load of money in exchange. But he doesn't actually tell her any of this till AFTER the wedding AND after he takes her virginity on the wedding night. Then he tells her that she has to move out and it will be a marriage in name only for 3 years when he will divorce her and pay her off. In the mean time here's a sweet little beach front cottage just outside of Harbor's Edge where you can live with a black AMEX card for company.
Of course what he doesn't foresee is Willow having gotten pregnant on their frisky wedding night. And he doesn't foresee that he's already fallen for her.
He already has a lot to make up for. But of course he has also screwed the pooch literally and her name is Nurie. The skanky 'back stabbing friend with benefits' that he's been with off an on for the last 8 years. He was schtupping Nurie the whole time he was platonically dating Willow.
So almost right away Decker feels remorse and plans to see Willow but Willow has flown the coop. She leaves almost right away and starts a new life in Harbor's Edge.
I quite enjoyed this. The side characters are fun and the grovelling was long and well done.
safety is problematic but not bad. (view spoiler)[ He was sleeping with Nurie while wooing Willow. He hadn't planned to ever have sex with Willow but couldn't keep his hands off her on their wedding night. He never has sex with Nurie again after that but I still felt like he had coodies until some time had passed and he'd been forced to be celibate. Willow was a virgin and doesn't date others during the book. Willow does tell him about the baby but didn't even know herself until half way through the story. I like that this author doesn't resort to the h having noodle knees in his sexy presence, to get them into bed again. No sex before forgiveness. As it should be! Nurie gets her comeuppance. She's a cartoonish evil OW that was fun to hate. And the author explains that he kept having sex with her over the years to piss off his ahole father and because he had some self loathing too. It's a studThis was a Wattpad story but the editing was very good and the story flowed well. It was longer than I was expecting but I was never bored. It's a study in what the fallout might be if a husband has an emotional affair with another woman. Although the OW was villainized by the end, it was pure entertainment and not an excuse or pardon for the hero. He owns his mistakes and works hard to win his wife back. There's also Lark's rocky relationship with her family that gets dealt with. The couple were kinda unbelievably successful, for their young ages, they had accomplished a lot.
I loved that the author wasn't shy about getting into the nitty gritty ugliness of cheating and brought in counselling to help. And there's Fredward the cat ; )
Michael and Susan I quite enjoyed this one. Maybe because I remember the Avon ladies, and I treasured the perfume my mother bought from them that came in a bottle shaped like a baby deer. But really the author did a nice job situating the story in the 1960's with all it's constraints on women. This is one of this author's stories where the H didn't commit physical adultery, but let the OW lead him around by the nose. He was an idiot. And I was happy with the grovel and ending. The OW doesn't go crazy, and the h gave her some payback ( he he) before she leaves the story.
Malik and Jade I had to dnf this one at 71%. I thought Jade was ridiculous in her all or nothing approach to problem solving. In fact she wasn't interested in problem solving but just throwing out the baby with the bath water. Yes the H was still somewhat friends with his ex lover. Sometimes that can work but in this case it was very poor judgement. But she never suggested marriage counselling. She decided for the two of them that their marriage was over. That they had no future except as friends. She was a dictator and he was willing to let her tell him what he could or could not do without any discussion because she had already tried and convicted him. I thought she was a tw*t and it's too bad his religion doesn't allow divorces. I feel sorry for him and fear for the next time someone hurts her feelings. Sometimes I find this author goes too far with the grovel. (I didn't think this was possible). So that you end up thinking the h is a b*tch and the H is a fool for staying the course. meh Not recommending this one....more

I really enjoyed this! The story was more of an epic tale than i was expecting from the initial set up.
Nessa meets Marcus while on her way to reject her fated mate... the mate that rejected her years earlier. The chemistry is pretty instant, but doesn't come across as insta love. They both have broken hearts and don't expect to ever find love again. ...until they does. Turns out, choice mates aren't second best at all. Then there's the whole, 'who killed Marcus' first mate', mystery. A mystery that needs to be solved before more are hurt.
I loved the MCs. They are both snarky but in a witty way. Both strong and brave and honest. The author (despite the cheesy pen-name) likes to think about her characters and world building from all angles. It's not the usual fluffy formula even though it felt like it would be at first. I thought it could have easily been split into at least two books, but kudos to the author that she didn't go that route. Lots of great side characters with side intrigues. Loved the romance between Marcus and Nessa!
The cons are the need for an editor (other than auto-correct!). Sometimes the transition between chapters seemed a bit confusing, where I wondered if I'd skipped a chapter and I got a bit lost in the politics at one point.
I'm looking forward to reading the next one!
(read on wattpad) Safety is perfect (view spoiler)[Marcus was mated years ago and his mate was killed. Marcus actually recognizes the mate bond (between him and Nessa) first. There is a pack member that he had a fling with before and after his mate but she doesn't amount to much. He was only mated a few months before she died. She was very nice but timid. Kinda the opposite of Nessa. Nessa slept with her first mate once before he broke their bond in a horrible way. Then there was one other guy between Brandon and Marcus. She does almost succumb to Ryan's charms after meeting Marcus but before their atttraction amounted to anything. (hide spoiler)] ..................................................................................................
i started the sequel 'The Monarch', also on wattpad. There's no goodread shelving for this one though, so here's where I'm at.
The MCs are Avery and Jonathan. Avery is a new character. She's 27, runs a 'battered bitches' shelter and is probably hiding from her own true mate. Jonathan is the king of the werewolves.
You really need to read the first book before this one as it is an ongoing soap opera.
I gonna give up on reading this.. Why? Well I hate reading on wattpad so it's taking a while. Plus the editing is even worse than the first book...
It's too bad as the story telling is better than a LOT of other paranormal books I've read. If she ever gets her stuff published I will be first in line to buy it.
