Some points I highlighted:
Anxiety is thought without control. Flow is control without thought." — James Clear
“All the people or situations that make me upset and angry are just like the empty boat. They don't have the power to make me angry without my own reaction”
“The path forward is only revealed when we begin walking.”

I wasn’t expecting a “nature” book to be written from the view point of someone living in a big city. The first few chapters had me feeling sad and confined as I read the affirmations provided for city dwellers. Anyway, I’m glad I pushed through and kept reading because the later chapters really sang to me. And, reflecting on it now, I can see how the first sections would be extremely helpful to someone confined somewhere with limited access to nature.
I am grateful to have received an ARC of this book via NetGalley. My copy did not have a table of contents or an index, maybe the final version will. An index would be especially helpful so the reader could choose an affirmation based on their current location, situation, or mood....more

He started most of what he said with “a study by…” so you knew there was some scientific backing to his claims. Interestingly, when talking about GMOs he said they are just too new for us to know the long term effects.
I think I might have enjoyed this more as a physical book so I could highlight passages to refer back to later.
My gripe, I guess, was that he went on and on mentioning multiple studies about things of which I was already convinced. Obviously water is important and it’s good to stay properly hydrated but even as someone who loves nonfiction science books the science references in that section and the alkalinity section just went on too long…much like this sentence.

Can something that’s enjoyable and considered recreation actually have such a profound impact on one’s life? Yes. And this book offers proof.
I know the soothing effect making art can have on a person so I was excited to read more about it. The topic here was actually much broader than I expected.
Neuroaesthetics is a word I hadn’t heard before. This book went way beyond “painting makes you calm.” Discussed were the positive effects of music, dance, architecture, nature and more.
This book was full of research studies and anecdotes. I would’ve loved some specific ideas for projects, links to playlists, or action plans. Maybe that was there and I missed it. I docked a star because there was so much information here it was overwhelming. My scattered brain could’ve used a bit more art—even charts and graphs to break up the countless stories and studies presented.
I do highly recommend this book to anyone looking to improve their life in an easy, enjoyable way.

I was expecting to gain a little knowledge about my core and learn a few new exercises. I actually am overwhelmed by all the information here. There aren’t just exercise. There is a new way to stand, a new way to sit and new ways to think. If you are an athlete looking to avoid injuries, or just anyone looking to improve your body, I highly recommend this book.

This book, on Amazon, had almost a perfect 5 star rating. But, as I read through the 5 star reviews, they seemed to me like they were all written by the same person. They were all about the same length & used the same grammar, etc. Seemed suspicious & that’s ultimately what led me to get the book. After reading I think my suspicions were correct. While it’s not a horrible book it’s not a book I can imagine a bunch of people rating 5 stars and gushing about. Many chapters mention seeking the help of a therapist. If I felt capable of contacting a therapist I wouldn’t be reading all these self-help books!! This book reads like what your grandma might tell you if you told her you were depressed... go get some fresh air, exercise, drink lots of water, do better at work, call a therapist! All good advice but if you’re depressed you aren’t really in a position to jump up & start doing these things.
I could continue by mentioning the repetitiveness, the disorganization, the repeated advice to basically “buck up & do better” oh & the last half of the book that talks about anxiety. The anxiety vs. panic attack chart was a fun highlight! So, anyway, I hate to be critical of a book written to help with depression but this one raised some red flags for me before I ever started it & rightly so it turns out. ...more

If anything it was a bit over-simplistic. But even if the author was telling me things I already knew it was things that are good to be reminded of often. I took the online test referenced at the end of the book & it came out different than I expected. I thought my primary love language would be “receiving gifts” but it turns out I’m more into “acts of service.” Interesting. I recommend this book to people in relationships but also it could be helpful to anyone in dealing others be they friends, relatives, or just colleagues.
I originally was going to rate it 4 stars but I’m upping my rating to 5 because I see that people are hating on this book unfairly. ...more

It doesn’t advocate giving up your smartphone entirely but rather using it in ways that enrich your life & make you happier; like for finding books on Goodreads. ...more

I wanted to read it first because I was afraid it might allow for “moderate drinking” as a solution to alcohol abuse, in which case I wouldn’t feel right passing it along. Well, in short, it doesn’t. I learned a lot from this book. If I wasn’t planning to give it away I would’ve dog eared and highlighted a bunch of pages! The theme that resonated most with me was overcoming the “herd mentality” on alcohol. The constant “it’s wine-o-clock” garbage is so annoying and this book does a good job of pointing out how ridiculously prevalent it is.
