"Fifteen! I'd hardly be fifteen and rousting villages. By the time fifteen came around, I'd be King!"
Jorg is now one of my favourite characters in literature. Reckless. Cunning. Subtle. Mad. Furious. Intelligent. Cruel. You can't use a single word to describe him. He's the bad guy, the villain every nobleman tries to avoid, maybe even an evil mastermind. Delicious.
"We'll be heroeth, Jorth?" Elban asked. He sounded uncertain as if all his years had yet to teach him that the end justifies the means. "Heroes?" I shrugged. "We will be victors. And that's what counts."
By the way, the titles of the sequels are ALL THE HYPE IN THE WORLD. Go, boy, become the emperor of thorns, rule over ashes and dust. I can't fucking wait....more

"People respond to kindness, Lada. They trust a smile more than a promise that you will leave them choking on their own blood." Lada snorted. "Yes, but my promise is more sincere than your smiles."
4.5 stars I was expecting a badass main character, some political intrigue, lots of backstabbing, and a bit of romance (maybe even a little love triangle, why not). This book delivers.
"What can I do?" she whispered. Radu's voice was strained with exhaustion. "Stay out of my way." Lada stumbled to the door, ignoring Radu's hastily called-out apology. She crossed the thankfully empty hallways to her own room, locked the door behind herself, and curled up on her bed.
She wanted to dream of Wallachia. She failed at even that.

Victoria Schwab is now among my top 10 (maybe 5, I haven't decided yet) favourite authors. Her writing style hooked me in right from the beginning, and her characters are so real, however so artsy (?) and poetic at the same time. And there's almost NO ROMANCE! You know what this means? NO LOVE TRIANGLES. NO LOVE TRIANGLES. NO LOVE TRIANGLES. God bless you, Schwab. May your keyboard always be fully functional. I need more of your books.
Also, the main characters of this book could be considered evil masterminds, or at least plain evil. Bad. Without a moral compass. Reckless as well. I rarely enjoy a book as much as I did enjoy this one. 10/5...more

I didn't have high hopes for this one, so it's not as disappointing as it could've been. The writing style is dull, the plot is dull and the main character is dull. And the worst thing is, it wasn't even enjoyable. I can read thousands of pages of bad, but enjoyable fiction, making it a guilty pleasure, but The Diary of an Oxygen Thief did not convince me to read the second installment....more

There were lessons to be learned that night. The dog was a weakness and the Hundred War cannot be won by a man with such weaknesses. Nor can it be won by a man who yields to the lesser evil. Give an inch, give any single man any single inch and the next thing you hear will be, "One more, Jorg, one more." And in the end what you love will burn. Father's lesson was a true one but knowing that can't make me forgive the means by which he taught it.
Someone burns a dog alive in this book. Yes. You read that right. Burns a dog. A dog. Yes. Exactly. And that someone is Jorg's father. Fuck Jorg's father. Fuck him. Indeed.
Although I loathe Jorg, given that there is absolutely nothing likable about him, I can't help it but love him for his reckless attitude and witty sentences, for his cruelness and for his hate. I admire him for overcoming everything the unfortunate circumstances have caused, even if he did it by evil means.
"Yes." He showed me a tight vicious smile. "Your sins cried out of it." He mimicked me. "I was a child..." Sageous looked down at Egan. "They cry out for it now." A cold fire rose through me. "I'll tell you what my sins cry out for, heathen. They cry out for more. They call for company." And I stepped toward him.
I dread having to read the last book because I know for sure that Jorg's fall will be painful to read about. He will fall, he will drown in his sins and in everything he took away from people. I do not want that, but it's necessary and imminent.

I needed this. I wanted it to be amazing. And it was. This is a better version of Shatter Me and The Darkest Minds. A more gut-wrenching, dark and twisted version of them. Adelina thrives where Juliette and Ruby fail. But this book is not to be compared with others. The Young Elites is unique and superb, loomy and charming. Full 5/5 stars.
"Embellish your flaws," he says softly. "They will turn into your assets. And if you become one of us, I will teach you to wield them like an assassin wields a knife." His eyes narrow. Giulietta relied on her royal blood. Queen Maeve ruled Beldain because she was born to it. But true rulers are not born. We are made."
This is the darkest book I have read in a really long time, if not THE darkest book I've ever read. Adelina is a villain. A true, genuine villain. A villain with hints of paranoia and schizophrenia. Untrustworthy, evil, self-centered.
I am tired of main characters that have all the power in the world, characters that are obviously the chosen ones but still use their skills to exclusively help others. I wanted a badass heroine who uses her abilities to conquer the world, to destroy everyone else, to be merciless and reckless. And that's Adelina. The White Wolf. She, she will rule them all someday. Otherwise, the world will face her wrath.
