This was a quick and fun read! I enjoyed the characters, and the world building. This book really provided a bit of everything - fae/human relationships, changelings, magic, a trial, and of course a love triangle. I will say the love triangle aspect was a bit weird for me… as there isn’t really a favored person. Maybe more will come of these relationships in the next book. The situation with Kellan made me a bit sad, as I did enjoy his character. Looking forward to continuing with the series!

I was excited about this one, as it was a retelling of Poe’s The Fall of the House of Usher, but sadly I did not love it as much as I wanted. The pacing was decent and I would definitely classify it as weirdly creepy. The atmosphere was also well done and added to the creep factor. In the end, this just wasn’t for me. I’m sure others will love it though!...more

This was a unique and creepy tale with definite cultish vibes. The writing was vivid, and the world building was done well. Endla is an island where the last wandering forest survives; this forest survives and thrives off of blood. The closest village shares tales of the island’s people luring men and children into the poison lake with their songs. But all is not what it seems. When Leelo falls for an outsider, both her family and the island’s secrets start to unravel. This is my first experience with this author, and I wasn’t disappointed! ...more

I’m not sure what I was expecting, but whatever it was this far surpassed my expectations! Alecto Black is surviving college, quite literally, as the only half breed witch. Alecto is a legacy member of the most infamous house on campus, House of Snakes. While she may be a legacy, the other witches including those in her own house treat her as less than because of her being half mortal. And no one knows how to push Alecto’s buttons more than her house mate Blaze. He is rich, arrogant, sexy and hellbent on making Alecto suffer. As the year’s competition between the houses starts, Alecto moves to prove she can be as vicious, cruel and calculating as the witches themselves! Everything about this story was fun. The world building, plot, smut, and magic!! Alecto and Blaze enemies to lovers storyline was full of spice. I’m looking forward to book 2!...more

Well damn! This was a good beginning to a series. At times I did feel like there was a lot going on with the alternating storylines (Angela and Jack), I have a feeling the storyline merge at some point in the series though. But right now, you got Angela a werewolf who broke from her pack, and Jack a vampire on a mission to avenge his friend’s murder. BUT the smut?! There was a lot of that - MFF, MF, MM! Overall this was a short smut filled ride, and I’ll likely read more of the series....more

This was such a fun quick read and my first experience with the author. The story unfolds on an island in the Philippines that is rumored to be haunted. Multiple deaths have been linked to the island, and now it has caught the attention of Hollywood. A film crew arrives to start filming a reality show with a disgraced famous ghost hunter. People do not live on the island due to the legends and the only person who is brave enough to step foot on the island is a teenager named Alon. The crew soon hires Alon to show them around. Alon makes several attempts to warn the crew to leave the island and return to safety. These warnings are ignored. But soon the crew starts hearing screams, experiencing hallucinations, and weird things keep happening. Soon intentions and secrets are revealed; things go from bad to worse. The ending was decent, it did well wrapping things up. I definitely want to know what happens next for Alon. ...more

This was a fun one. Anytime I see anything about Baba Yaga I immediately want to read it. Why? Because she is fascinating in every light. Would I want to come across her chicken legged home in the woods? Absolutely not! This anthropology captures Baba Yaga energy completely and provides a taste of all sides of her. In some stories she is a baby eating villain, and in others she is the heroine. While I enjoyed this anthropology as a whole, I did have favorites: The Story of House by Yi Izzy Yu, Of Moonlight and Moss by Sara Tantlinger, Mama Yaga by Christina Sng, Herald the Knight by Mercedes Yardley, and Water Like Broken Glass by Carina Bissett....more

Someone described this as Brooke Shields’ childhood career meets Jeffrey Epstein/Ghislaine Maxwell and I 100% can get on board with that description. The story is told in a single POV but with dual timelines (1970 & 2019). Ryan Flannigan is 10 years old when she is discovered and her career quickly takes off. After years in the spotlight, Ryan returned to her roots in Vermont to live a quiet life and raise her daughter. In 2019, an old photo resurfaces during a pedophilia investigation, showing Ryan in a vulnerable position. On the back of this photo is an inscription from Ryan’s mother. Soon after this photo is discovered and published on countless news outlets, Ryan’s friend and surrogate father commits suicide and her mother is wanted by the FBI for questioning. Ryan returns to NYC not only for the memorial, but to get answers from her mother. The story was raw, well-written and fast paced. This was my first experience with T.Greenwood, but I’m thinking it won’t be the last. ...more

"This isn't a kingdom anymore. It's a queendom.”
Wow, what a phenomenal follow up to Crossbones! The whole crew makes a return and so do all the humorous and snarky moments. This one has a lot going on, and you meet some new characters but it was a super fun read! Kane is still on his mission to find Rove, Lorelei is trying to control her storm, Magnus is still trying to break free, there is a crack in Limbo so weird shit is escaping, AND of course there is Csilla and Flynn. Also, THAT ENDING. I was not ready, you won’t be either. So looking forward to the next book! ...more

My interest was initially piqued when I saw this was a gothic horror, because that is definitely up my ally. Then you throw in cult vibes?! Yes., please! The sad news is that I just couldn’t get into it. The story is told through two POVs with alternating timelines. The beginning was super confusing and a little dry. You hit 50+% before you even know what the hell is going on; and with all the build up the ending fell a bit short. Overall the book had a lot going for it, but I’m thinking Ward’s books just aren’t for me. And that’s cool. If the blurb grabs your attention, I’d give it a read!...more

"Why do men fixate on the past when every woman I have ever known is trying to remedy the present while she builds hope for what is to come?"
What an amazingly written book! I read The Scarlet Letter in high school, just like many others, and then again in college. I enjoyed it more the 2nd time around. This however, is a book about the woman, Isobel, who inspired Hester Prynne. I absolutely loved Isobel’s story from beginning to end. She is such a strongly written character as are so many of the other secondary characters.
"But truth and triumph aren't what I am after," Nat says. What's true is often hidden from sight - religious fervor disguises cruelty, dark desires hide behind a mask of conformity."

This was not a bad story, but it wasn’t for me. There was a lot of tech talk which I didn’t really get. I didn’t exactly like the characters in the book, either. There was a lot of jealousy within the “friendships” throughout. The chapters were short and overall it was a quick read. ...more

This was bloody good! Such a vividly dark gothic horror read. Marion is from he slums of Prane where she wants for more, so when the opportunity of becoming a bloodmaid is presented she takes it. She journeys to the north to indenture herself to Lisavet, Countess of the House of Hunger. Once there, Marion befriends 3 other bloodmaids. Loyalties are soon tested when Marion moves up in ranks quicker than usual and learns the secrets hidden throughout House of Hunger. This was amazing and so much more than I was expecting. You get it all - witchy vibes, mystery, romance, betrayal, and exploration of family relationships. I read it in one sitting. I could not, and didn’t want to, put it down! It was that good! The story is told in 3rd person with multiple POVs, but I didn’t experience any confusion. I enjoyed the wide cast of characters. Addison did irritate me every now and then; only because of her bad decision making skills. Definitely had a lot of “wtf are you doing?!” moments with her character; but I think that only added to the story. The ending was tied up nicely, which I loved. This one is definitely in my top 5 reads for the year! ...more
