Told in verse, we follow Ariel who is trying to cope with undiagnosed OCD and intrusive thoughts. Ariel has rituals to make sure everyone around them is safe. These thoughts have caused Ariel to isolate herself. An unlikely bond forms between the new girl to Wildwood, Ruth, a long time employ, Rex, and Ariel. Their support and understanding helps Ariel understand she is not alone.
I really enjoy Cole’s writing and representation throughout. Not only is OCD/intrusive thoughts explored, but we see questions surrounding gender and gender rolls/expectations, sexuality, race, religion, death and relationships. ...more

I’m not sure this is what I was expecting going into this one, but it wasn’t this. Some of the poems weren’t for me, but I did enjoy many of them! The writing is dark, filled with so much rage and feminist themes. And can we take a moment to appreciate the cover?!...more

Another amazing collection from Amanda Lovelace! She is quickly becoming my favorite poet and I think this may be my favorite collection thus far. For starters, this book is aesthetically pleasing. The cover and full color art between poems are so beautiful. AND I love that this collection is a loose reimagining of a modern-day Persephone and her thoughts/perspectives, which are powerful and relatable. I love the way Lovelace showcases the both the vulnerability and strength of female power and experience. ...more

This was my first experience with Rilke’s work, and it just wasn't for me. I finished the work because the page count was short, and I thought there would be at least one poem I could relate to… that didn’t happen. Even though I did not enjoy this, I hope others do. ...more

I like darker poetry, but this one just didn't work for me. I felt like this was more like broken up sentences and the entire collection didn't exactly mesh with where I am currently in life. However, there were a some works that really resonated with me, such as: The Lessons We're Taught and You Can't Change Who I am
You wanted me to be a moth, When I was always a butterfly.
I am sure other readers will appreciate her entire collection!...more
