This is the third book in the series Smells of the Seasons, and it's a wonderful addition! As I read it, I tried to imagine how special this book would be for children with vision problems. Listening to the rhyming words, hearing about all of the exciting things that take place during the Fall season, and thinking about the fun and joy awaiting them! But this book also provides an opportunity to teach all children that God knows and understands when we are lacking in one of our senses. April may not be able to see but God blessed her by giving her a heightened sense of smell.
The gorgeous illustrations and lyrical text add to its appeal but I was especially captivated by Hake's descriptions of the smells associated with school, football games, bonfires, and Thanksgiving! Now I wonder...what smells will be shared in Hake's next book, The Smell of Winter?
This is an excellent book to read with your children or grandchildren, and it's also a valuable teaching resource!

The action beginsAre you looking for an exciting, thrill-a-minute story that leaves you longing for the next book in the series? Your search is over! The action begins on the first page of High-Risk Rescue and the tension continues to build as the story progresses. Hannah Kahn is thrust into a precarious situation where she desperately needs protection but why does her bodyguard have to be the man that she loved years ago? Security Specialist Ayden Honor may offer Hannah physical protection, but how will they both deal with the emotional turmoil?
Elizabeth Goddard excels in writing suspense, and she's filled this book with twists, turns, and heart-pounding excitement. She's also created a lovely, inspiring story with realistic characters dealing with serious trust issues by turning to God and allowing Him to work in their lives. High-Risk Rescue is a poignant tale of lost love, damaged trust, and the healing that comes from hope and faith. I recommend this book to all who enjoy Christian romantic suspense.

Virginia Vaughan writes the stories that I look forward to reading and this new book is no different. From the moment that psychologist Shelby Warren labels her patient a 'typical adrenaline junkie', I believed that her strong reaction to Paul Avery would prove to be life-changing. Was I ever right! Paul soon jumps into rescue mode when he saves Shelby from a sniper's bullets, and they are both thrust into an adventure filled with twists, turns, and many unanswered questions.
'Tears slid down her face because she knew the truth. She owed this man her life. So many times over. But she could never give him her heart.'
Texas Target Standoff has great characters, a fast-paced plot, and a romance that often appears doomed. Add danger, excitement, and a strong faith message to the mix and the result is a romantic suspense novel that I couldn't put down! Rebecca Mason is attacked by an unknown man and she is rescued by Collin Walsh, the man she hasn't seen for almost twelve years. As the danger escalates Rebecca is faced with accepting protection from this man who married her and then left her when their baby died. After they both escape numerous threats to their lives Rebecca realizes that she must trust Collin with her life but can she trust herself with her feelings of love that have never died?
This is an exciting story but it is also a timely story that focuses on the serious problem of human trafficking that is now plaguing our society. Rebecca becomes aware of this as she struggles to find a young teen girl who has suddenly disappeared. As her search continues it becomes apparent that Missy Donovan may be one of many teenagers who are being forced to have babies so that they can be sold in a suspected baby-selling operation. Rebecca is determined to rescue Missy and the other girls and Collin is just as determined to protect Rebecca. It soon becomes apparent that they are both still in love with the other but it is doubtful that their past hurts can be forgiven!
Risky Return is an exciting, fast-paced story filled with intrigue and mystery but author Virginia Vaughan has also included a strong faith element throughout her book and she also features both their faltering faith and their acceptance of His ever-present love! It is through their doubts and questions that they both realize that God is always there and that forgiveness is always available!

Author Psalm 23 is one of the most beloved passages in the Holy Bible and this book is the perfect way to introduce children to its comforting words. Author Ruth Chou Simons uses Psalm 23 as the inspiration for her new children's book, Home is Right Where You Are, and it is fantastic!
Simons's beautiful illustrations are attention grabbers, and the easy-to-read rhyming text is perfect for young children, but it isn't just for your little ones! I was fully engaged in the vibrant colors, words of praise, and the promise that God is always with us. Home is Right Where You Are is a perfect book for family bedtime reading, but it would also be a wonderful addition to a church library. Are these Amish women willing to put their own lives at risk to help someone who had walked away from his Amish upbringing?

These are the words found in a diary that relates what occurred in the lives of two young women in Oakville, Mississippi in 1887. Mercy Carpenter has decided to leave Ironwood Plantation to make a new life elsewhere. She has lived there and been safe at the plantation but she believes that there's so much more waiting outside of these boundaries. She's heard that there are wonderful opportunities in the North but she doesn't anticipate what she will encounter-- prejudices aren't just race related because there can also be prejudices about gender! What follows is a story of danger, uncertainty, and disappointment as Mercy leaves the plantation, Faith sets out to find the black woman who is more like a sister than a friend, and they both encounter unknown consequences.
Ironwood Plantation was supposed to be a haven for freed slaves but instead, it had almost become a prison and Stephenia McGee paints a poignant picture with Faith's realization that 'Truth be told, Faith had thought little of the opportunites afforded to her, while at the same time expecting that Mercy should be grateful for a safe place and stay quietly at home.'
This is the third book of the Ironwood Plantation Family Saga and McGee has created memorable characters and exciting events to conclude this series. The Civil War is one of my favorite eras and this novel is set twenty-two years after the end of this war. It reaffirms what I've read before: that the end of the war wasn't the end of the hate and prejudice that had bound the United States for so long.
This is a story of the search for freedom and for affirmation and it shares the universal need for hope, faith, and perseverance. There is also the possibility of romance for both Mercy and Faith but the real love story is the love between the two of them and this book reminds us once again that love isn't determined by blood ties or family relations. If you enjoy historical fiction and Christian romance you will certainly want to read Missing Mercy.
I received an advanced reader copy of this book but a positive review was not required. These are my honest thoughts.

She's created a heroine who is beautiful, courageous, a true advocate for the animals that she treats, and a trailblazer as one of the first female veterinarians in this male-dominated profession. I also loved learning the history behind the Magdalene Laundries in Ireland and the Wisconsin milk strike that occurred in 1933. Grandinetti offers an impressive account of the unrest and violence that threatened Wisconsin during this time, and she offers a stunning portrayal of the farmer's frustration. My husband and I ran a dairy for almost thirty years, so I fully understand the discouragement of watching your livelihood threatened by plummeting milk prices!
To Stand in the Breach has mystery, suspense, romance, and faith, and it's a prequel to A Strike to the Heart, scheduled for release in April 2022. I am looking forward to reading more about Katy and her life in Depression era Wisconsin.

"The Books of Moses" is the first book in the six-book "Guiding Word" series and it's a wonderful resource for your daily Bible study! This volume covers the first five books of the Old Testament and it is an all-encompassing resource with maps, illustrations, descriptions, and links between the Old and New Testaments.
The first five books of the Bible are known as the Pentateuch and they contain the narratives of God's Creation, the families of Abraham, and the others that followed. The books of Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, and Deuteronomy also share God's laws for his people, the leadership of Moses, and the 40 year journey to reach the Promised Land. Words and stories that we've read many times but this book offered me a whole new perspective! It clearly shows how the promise of a Messiah was first given in Genesis 3 and carried through these five books of Moses.
The Books of Moses is a wonderful addition to my personal devotion time but it would also be a wonderful resource for a small Bible Study group. The good news is that The Books of History, the second volume in this Guiding Words series, will be available in November. I'm eager to see what it has in store!

"We may have different names now, but you'll always be my Sparrow."
I was thrilled for a chance to read Johnnie Alexander's new book but I didn't know "We may have different names now, but you'll always be my Sparrow."
I was thrilled for a chance to read Johnnie Alexander's new book but I didn't know just how special this story would be! The characters experience pain, loss, and betrayal but they're still able to endure World War II, one of the most tumultuous times in history. Espionage is rampant and the intrigue is non-ending but there's also a chance that Marie Wyatt may even find her soul mate. Danger prevails, so how will her story end?
This is an engaging tale with endearing but fallible characters who often baffled me by their actions! I couldn't read fast enough to discover the destiny of this young woman who learned her ABCs in her home in the Southern hills of Ohio but ended up as an actress and spy in England and France in 1944. Much of the story is set during the years during and following WWII but I especially loved the emotional connection that developed between Marie and a young woman that she met by chance in 1997. If you're looking for a page-turning and thought-provoking story filled with history, suspense, and romance, grab a copy of When Memory Whispers! It's a companion to Where Treasures Lies but can be considered a standalone.

Virginia Dare, the first English baby born in the New World, is the heroine in Shannon McNear's new book and it is an engaging story filled with history, intrigue, and a lovely romance. The absolute truth surrounding Virginia's life isn't known so this book is fiction, but McNear's amazing historical research allows us to consider "what might have been"! Why couldn't this first English baby have survived the hardships that were a part of the settling of America? Why wouldn't Virginia be entitled to happiness and enduring love in North Carolina in the early 1600s?
Virginia is an engrossing story of bravery and endurance that has historical facts and fictional details masterfully woven together. It's the fourth book in the series but Virginia's timeline falls between the first and third book. Never fear, it can be enjoyed as a standalone, but you'll probably want to go back to read the others! If you love historical fiction peppered with romance and inspiration, grab a copy of this book!

My granddaughter is a five year old who loves rhyming words and Carlson has chosen to write her book in easy to understand rhyming text to ask the question What If?; she also uses repetition and this is another great way to keep a child's attention. The illustrations are colorful and fun and illustrator Bethany Harris pairs them perfectly with the animals and insects that are being discussed. What If? is fun while it educates and best of all, it is a book of affirmation. In her final two pages Melody Carlson reminds young readers that they are just who they are supposed to be. Carlson writes 'But thank you, God, that I'm the one---The one you planned for me to be! I'm so glad you made me...ME!'
I am giving What If? 5 stars and I can't wait to share this book with my granddaughter!

I don't know In the preface of this new book, author Annie Weber confesses that she had never picked up a Bible until she was twenty-eight years old. I don't know her current age, but I do know that her acceptance of Jesus Christ and her continuing walk with Him has enabled her to write a book that promises to be beneficial to many different people, from new believers to seasoned Christians!
Astounding Truths of the Bible has been a special addition to my worship time. Weber shared her thoughts and experiences with humor and discerning insight and I often felt like I was in a personal conversation with her. Each of the 100 astounding truths is two pages long and they all begin with Scripture and end with a prayer. They may be bite-size, as the subtitle says, but these bites are filled with nourishment for our souls! Scripture from both the Old and New Testaments is shared and the devotions are conveniently divided into four sections. Want to know more about The Character of God? Check out Part 1. Longing to know God's Desire for His People? That's covered in Part 2. But don't forget Part 3! Weber labels it as Curious Parts of the Bible and it's filled with astounding truths that are sometimes overlooked. Finally, in Part 4, we're shown how God Equips His People. Twenty-five amazing truths of God's efforts to equip His people with the tools to live a life that honors Him!

The "Life in Christ Bible" is a New King James Version, so it is written for modern English readers while remaining true to the original King James Bible. A single-column paragraph format is used so there is ample space for journaling or jotting down notes, and there are translator notes and cross-referenced verses at the bottom of the pages. I especially appreciate that the words of Christ are printed in red because I've recently seen some new Bibles that don't offer this feature. My only negative comment is that some people might prefer a larger font.
The Bible that I received has a soft brown leatherette cover and two colorful ribbons bookmarks so it would be an attractive gift, but I plan to keep this treasure for myself! It's a wonderful study Bible that's filled with charts, maps, study aids, reading plans to supplement my devotion time, and many pages of additional commentary. I highly recommend this Life in Christ Bible as a valuable resource for people just beginning their Christian walk and a fantastic choice for more seasoned believers!

I have sentimental attachments to many of the possessions in my home and it's sometimes hard to keep them organized. That's one reason that I was so eager to read "Organizing for the Rest of Us"! Author Dana K. White states in the subtitle that she has "100 realistic strategies to keep any house under control" and this is exactly what I found! From the first strategy to the last, this book is filled with encouraging tips, and ironically, the last strategy deals with the sentimental stuff that I adore!
White offers logical advice that is easy to follow and she writes in a conversational style that is a joy to read. Yes, I've seen some of her ideas before but she's motivated me to try them again. Did she leave home willingly, or is there someone or something that's preventing her return? Author Wanda E. Brunstetter shares Rosa Petersheim's intriguing story in the first book of a new series, and her writing skills have never been more evident. The character development is excellent and the portrayed emotions are spot on!
The Protector is set in Mifflin County, Pennsylvania in the Amish community of Belleville so the suggestion that Rosa may have willingly left her Amish community presents an intriguing dilemma. Will this community support the Petersheims or will they be censored? We're reminded that tragedy and loss are universal, surface emotions are often misleading, and none of us can truly understand another person's feelings. Families can be strengthened, or they can be destroyed by stress and grief!
This well-written book kept me fully engaged with its romance, mystery, and inspiring message of faith. I recommend The Protector to all who enjoy Amish fiction, and I look forward to the next Mifflin County Mystery!
