Once again Jennifer Lynn Barnes delivers with a book that has fantastic mystery, twist after twist, politics, power, high-tension drama, and one hell Once again Jennifer Lynn Barnes delivers with a book that has fantastic mystery, twist after twist, politics, power, high-tension drama, and one hell of a tough protagonist.
I'm so glad I finally got to read this book. There is just something about Barnes' writing that makes her books so readable and her characters so loveable.
Tess has lived with her grandpa on his farm since her parents died when she was young. But as her grandpa ages she has had to work harder to make sure no one notices his increased confusion, strange moods and memory loss. When her sister, the one who Tess hasn't seen for three years, turns up and whisks Tess away from her home, Tess will learn what her sister does exactly and how it will entangle her in the dangerous world of politics and secrets.
The plot just kept twisting and re-shaping. I loved that I could never guess what would happen next or who the bad guys would be. There were a few other things I guessed, though, and I was pleased to be proven right. I love how the teenagers, Tess and her new school friends, can hold their own with the adults in this book but they are still very realistic teenagers - just clever, well-connected teens.
All the characters are awesome. Tess's sister, for example who is strong, clever and slightly scary (in a I know all your dirty secrets kind of way). And Asher, Tess's school friend, is honest and hilarious with his self confidence and hidden vulnerability. Along with Brodie the very unconventional driver, grieving and brooding Henry and, you know, the President and First Lady. And then there is Tess. She can more than hold her own in this crowd of privileged and powerful people, but she doesn't pretend to be anyone other than who she is. I love that there is no romance in this book. It doesn't need it. There is room for it to develop later in the series, but the suspense, mysteries and characters are enough on their own. And let's not forget that Tess doesn't need a guy to be super awesome.
Humour, friendship, family dynamics of the most exciting kind, high school - this book is seriously awesome.
I can't wait to read the next book in this series and see what trouble Tess, her friends and family will become mixed up in next.

There are no words. I've loved the previous two books in the series but this one just totally blew them both away. It's clever and fun and chilling. And there's going to be a fourth book (at least there better be!!!!!!!!).
I love returning to the Naturals. I love the characters, from troubled but irresistible Dean, snarky and always about to cause some mayhem Lia, Michael who wears a mask and play acts to hide his hurt, and Sloane who statistic babbles and yet so very clearly reveals her desire to be needed, wanted. And of course Cassie. Cassie, who is always trying to look out for her fellow Naturals and cope with the reopening of her mother's case, all while trying her best to solve this latest crime.
And what a crime it is. What starts as a serial murder case gets real, fast. The case they are on is huge, and just like Cassie's, the reader's mind is overrun by facts. What's important, what is a clue and what is just incidental? I never wanted to skip ahead and see who the killer is because the case, the journey to discovering who it is is so very enjoyable.
I love how Barnes expertly weaves a brilliant cast, humorous moments and touching backstories with detailed criminal cases that take your breath away and have you looking over your shoulder. Stunning. Dean and Cassie are finally together in this book, and it's so very enjoyable to see them as a couple. They know each other, know the pain and hurt each carries. But their romance is not a focus of the book, there is no relationship drama or complications, which I absolutely loved. They, along with their fellow Naturals, Judd and the Special Agents are such an endearing cast. We get to see more of Sloane and discover a bit of her backstory in All In. I love that there is going to be another book, love that we will get to uncover more about the characters' pasts, and love that Cassie is getting the answers she has always been searching for, even if they bring up more question. I loved this book and I can't wait to read the next one.
I couldn't give this series any higher recommendation. Read them in series order, but read them you must, especially if you love mysteries and books that are simply unputdownable.
The action starts from the very first page in this story. There is little time to situate yourself before the characters are running for their lives. The action starts from the very first page in this story. There is little time to situate yourself before the characters are running for their lives. I have to admit I was a little confused at the start. The reader isn't given a whole lot of information about Jackie and Ian's past to begin with, and the story instead focuses on the action while the backstory is filled in as the plot develops. This certainly makes for an engaging read, though.
Jackie Sellers is sure Ian Lockwood isn't a terrorist like the news is reporting. As someone who works to help those in dangerous situations she knows how best to help people who find themselves in a place where they can't help themselves. Which is why she breaks into Ian's house to discover what's really going on. Before she knows it she and Ian are dodging spraying bullets and desperately trying to prove their innocence while also staying alive and helping to solve a looming terrorist attack.
No Place To Hide is full of non-stop action. Just when you think things are going to resolve, something else happens and suddenly there are more twists and flying bullets. I saw a lot of the twists coming but that in no way made them any less nail-bitingly tense. Perhaps the reason for my foresight (far be it from any particular skill of mine) is the chapters that switch viewpoints from Ian and Jackie to a variety of the other key players, bad guys and good guys alike. This keeps the story moving and also provides the reader with plenty of insight.
The focus of this book is certainly the suspense and action, with just a little romance and faith building along the way. The romantic tension between Jackie and Ian is hinted at pretty early on, although this is justified as they have a past and the focus is quickly returned to the unfolding drama. There is also a lot of other complicated backstory that is revealed along the way, and a great cast of secondary characters. No Place To Hide can be read as a standalone, even through it is the third book in the Hidden Identity series. Those who have read the previous books will recognise some familiar faces in connection to Jackie's employment at Operation Refuge.
No Place To Hide is quick read, with great tension, sweet romance and edge-of-your-seat action. A perfect book for readers who love well-written, faith-based suspense.

I really liked this book. It's an original mix of suspense that is both relaxing and yet so very engaging.
Shannon Bliss was abducted at the age of sixI really liked this book. It's an original mix of suspense that is both relaxing and yet so very engaging.
Shannon Bliss was abducted at the age of sixteen. Now eleven years on she has escaped from her captors and is ready to put her life back together. And Shannon has found the man she wants to help her through the transition: Matthew Dane, former police officer and private investigator whose own daughter was kidnapped. Taken, at its heart, is a book about a victim of a tragedy returning home, trying to put her life back together, balancing the memories of the past with dreams for the future, as well as finding justice for those responsible.
Taken is written from Matthew's perspective, which gives the book a very interesting angle. While the focus of the book is on Shannon's journey because it is told through Matthew's point of view it is also about how to best help survivors of tragedy and, because of his policing and investigator background, managing the legal and justice side of the case. The reader learns about the case and Shannon's abduction as Matthew does, although we never really get a whole lot of details about Shannon's time with the kidnappers. I would have liked to hear a few more details instead of it just being alluded to how terrible it was, but it does work as it is.
Taken is a layered story. Initially the focus is on how to move forward with the investigation and then it becomes about Shannon, her life and how she copes with the first few weeks of freedom. It's about relationships, faith in hard circumstances and surviving. There is also some romance, although it really is more a few sweet moments and a beautiful friendship that gradually becomes more. I liked Matthew, who is steady and strong, as all Dee Henderson's male leads tend to be. I would have liked to read a little more of his backstory, particularly details about how his daughter was kidnapped, when, why and how she was returned. The reader also gets to see some familiar faces, including Ann and Paul, Bryce and Charlotte, and even Rachel and Cole (those who have read all of Dee's previous books will understand who I'm talking about). Taken is a standalone, although with all the familiar characters it does feel like a continuation of a series, although the plot is completely separate.
Now, let me address the question long-term fans of Dee's writing will be asking. Is Taken like her old books or her new ones? Taken is written in a similar style to Dee Henderson's latest books. I know that some people who loved Dee's O'Malley series and Uncommon Heroes series have not, to the same extent, enjoyed her new style of writing that began in Full Disclosure and has continued through Unspoken and Undetected. The former certainly were action-packed suspense novels with a strong emphasis on romance, while the latter had all the same elements of suspense, family, relationships and romance, but seemed longer reads, with more details, slower plot lines and in some cases less emphasis on quick resolutions. I personally love both styles and all of Dee Henderson's books. I can hear Dee Henderson's artistic voice in both styles, however I can note that they are different. Taken continues in the new style with characters who are eloquent, thoughtful and reflective. The plot reads at a slower pace, although the topic is that of suspense, mystery, action and crime solving, and so there is a fabulous balance of edge-of-your-seat tension that is extended over the whole book in an extremely engaging manner.
I really enjoyed Taken. It was refreshing, renewing and highly enjoyable. As always I eagerly await Dee Henderson's next book.

I love how the reader is dropped straight into the action, into the world that is the dangerous reality for the brave men and women of special forces. The story that began in Raptor 6 continues in Hawk, with plenty of twists and action along the way. This time we get the story from the perspective of Staff Sergeant Brian and Fekiria Haidary, an Afghan pilot who butted heads with Brian in the previous book. As the story progresses the reader is also given chapters from the enemy's point of view, as well as from a few other Raptor team members. The result is a fast moving story, with both military action, suspense, romance, stateside life and complications and the great comradery of the Raptor team. The team move closer to finding the people who are targeting them, but will they be in time? Guess we will find out in the third book, Falcon. ...more

Chase, call sign Nyx, is a cadet at the United Star Academy, an airforce base for teens as they prepare to join the US military in the Second Cold War. Chase is part of one of two teams who fly the Streakers, jets so powerful only young and strong teen pilots can fly them.
I didn't like Chase at first. She was bold, cocky, arrogant and reckless, but then you'd get these little glimpse of more hiding beneath the surface and of a backstory that explained the attitude. And as the story developed I began to love her courage, her fear and her determination. The Star is a military base and junior training academy, which results in the best mix of teen drama and military action. Chase and her RIO (and best friend) Pippin, and the other Streaker team are preparing for the trials that will showcase the Streaker jets' abilities and, if the trials succeed, will see the beginning of the Streakers' dominance in the fight between the once powerful US and the now-dominant New Eastern Bloc. It is up to Chase and her fellow cadets to prove both their own worth and that of the experimental jets - so it's really important not to mess up (or die). It's just unfortunate that Chase is so very good at pushing the boundaries and generally creating chaos!
There are tense moments and high-risk flying manoeuvres, romance, friendship and humour, and then, WHAM! Out of nowhere - I did not see that coming. It made it all real and so very powerful. Cori McCarthy expertly combines flying lingo and details, base politics and teen interactions, and creates a suspenseful and dramatic read. Highly enjoyed.

Kate is a little different than the average human. She can run much faster and can heal much quicker. Her abilities set her apart from those around her - and she likes it that way. It is easier to keep everyone at a distance than trust them and let them hurt you. Kate and her mother are close, a team of two against the world. But, when their car is rammed on the way home from a race meet Kate survives. Her mother does not. Reeling from the loss, Kate is shocked to learn her father is not dead after all. And so, Kate moves to Mercer Island to live with him. Used to making new starts, Kate is determined to let this move be no different. She has just one rule - let no one get close. But Kate wasn't counting on her bubbly, student-body-president neighbour or his gorgeous, spin-her-for-a-loop brother. When the shadows haunting Kate start to reappear around her new home, she begins to undercover a huge range of secrets, especially from those closest to her. Who is the man determined to kill her, who is the creepy doctor and who wrote the note warning her to be wary?
Suspense, action, superhero powers, romance, great family dynamics and fabulous, quote-worthy lines make this a surprising and thoroughly entertaining read. While the story starts slow and it takes a bit to get connected with the characters and action, persevere, it's definitely worth it. Kate is sharp, hilarious and has a market on sarcasm, and she makes for a spunky and courageous heroine. The romance fairly sizzles, and I loved the interactions between Kate and her newly-discovered father. While the ending is perfect I would love a sequel and there is plenty of room left for more adventure. Highly enjoyed and highly recommended.

By Your Side is one of those books that makes you giddy inside from joy and yet keeps you on edge enough to madly flick through the pages.
Macy Wynn iBy Your Side is one of those books that makes you giddy inside from joy and yet keeps you on edge enough to madly flick through the pages.
Macy Wynn is an ER nurse, survivor of foster care, hiker, bike rider and kick boxer, and is determined to take care of herself. Deputy Fletcher Holt is equally determined to help heal his mother, fix the relationship (currently non-existent) with his long-time love and friend, Jessica, and generally save the world. When Fletcher and Macy meet on an overpass, stuck behind an overturned truck and resulting traffic pileup, both are determined to do what they can to help and end up butting heads. When a sniper starts taking shots at the stranded motorists, Fletcher jumps to protect Macy, and Macy can't help but be grateful to have someone at her side. As the sniper continues a rampage across the city, Macy and Fletcher find themselves brought together, and begin to explore the possibility of reaching out and trusting.
Candace Calvert can be relied on to write wonderful medical suspense that is realistic and dramatic, but clear enough that someone like me, with zero medical knowledge, can easily keep up. The romance is delightful, delicious, toe-curling - there aren't enough good adjectives to describe the wonderful relationship that slowly blooms between Macy and Fletcher. By Your Side has a perfect title, gorgeous cover, great ending and excellent balance of suspense, faith and romance. I loved the scenes between Fletcher and Macy and their shared humour, which provides the perfect relief between the plentiful high-action events.
There is, as always with Candace Calvert's books, a complex mash of characters, which are handled in a way that they feel like an extended family. There is also the usual details for secondary characters which usually translate into subsequent books. I'm hoping ER nurse Taylor will have a staring role in the next book.
As for the suspense, there is plenty of action. Almost from the beginning you know the who of the situation, you just don't know why. I really liked that it wasn't more complicated than it needed to be - the focus of this book really is learning to trust in God and those around you.
Overall this is a great read, perfect for lovers of Candace's previous books or for the reader looking for an engaging romantic suspense. Highly recommended.

Double Cross has all the makings of a great Christian, romantic suspense. From the action-packed and explosive start, the plot slows down a little as we meet Daniel Hilton, a Houston Police Officer, who is investigating an insurance fraud which has swindled his grandparents out of thousands of dollars. Unfortunately, I found that this part of the novel drags a little as the story and crime is set up, though it certainly is an interesting take on a suspense novel as Daniel, while a police office, works the case as a family member. Also working on uncovering a scamming ring is FBI Agent, Laurel Evertson. She once sacrificed everything to put a bad guy in jail, but is again asked to come face to face and work with the man who haunts her nightmares in order to solve the insurance fraud crimes. The book picks up pace as Laurel goes undercover and the action, including car chases, shoot outs, attempted kidnappings, more shoot outs and sniper attacks, explodes from there. As Laurel and Daniel cross paths during the investigation, Laurel feels trapped between maintaining her cover and her growing attraction to the handsome and stubborn police office who won't walk away.
DiAnn Mills' sharp writing style makes this a great story. There are lots of surprise twists and the romance is beautifully sweet. Daniel is patient with Laurel and yet manages to woo her rather charmingly. The faith aspects are handled well, as Laurel struggles to believe anyone could love her with her past, God included, and Daniel, a man strong in his faith, tests his patience as the hunt heats up and becomes personal. Both also struggle with trust and just how much faith can change a person.

When remains are found at a construction site, the local police join forces with a county detective to unearth the secrets that surround this long-cold case.
The romance is particularly well written in this book. From the first moment Mac McGregor, detective and ex-Navy SEAL, puts his foot in it, you know his relationship with Police Chief Lisa Grant is going to be highly entertaining. The tension is instant between the two, as is the attraction. Mac is down right swoon worthy. Tall, broad-shouldered, dark and handsome, Mac is also charming and kind. And guess what? He has two brothers, both in the armed forces (one of which will be our hero for the next book in the series). Yes!!! Cue excited happy dancing. The brothers also bring a great camaraderie and banter to the book, which provides a great background to the building attraction between Mac and Lisa. I'm not sure what it is exactly, but the overall effect of this book is delicious and thoroughly enjoyable.
We readers are given the answers to the crime straight up, and Mac and Lisa figure it out pretty quickly. The mystery then revolves around finding evidence and proving their suspicions are correct, as well as some surprise twists and building suspense. Irene Hannon obviously knows her stuff and writes a convincing and realistic portrayal of law enforcement investigation. The reader also gets a pretty in-depth perspective from the perpetrators, which was interesting.
Overall, this was a fantastic romantic suspense read, and I am eagerly looking forward to the following books in the series.
Fiction. Christian. Romance and love. Suspense. Crime fighting and law enforcement.

Reef and Kirra, thrown together as a SAR support team, find themselves in the midst of a kidnapping. Determined to find her cousin and help her uncle, Kirra is surprised when Reef offers her his help to stop the unfolding tragedy.
I had to stop and catch my breath after the first chapter. This book is jam packed with action. If you're a lover of Dani Pettrey's Alaskan Courage series (as I am) you will already know that Sabotaged is a must read. For those of you that haven't yet come across the series, then know if you love romance, action, suspense and drama all wrapped up in the glorious scenery of Alaska and with the added bonus of a big family of siblings to follow through adventures and love, then you need to get reading. You could read the books out of sequence as each story is complete in its own right, but some of the stories are introduced in the previous books, so reading the books chronologically would certainly make it easier to keep up with the characters and backstories. In any case, it's worth it to read them all.
The story jumps very quickly into the action and starts out feeling a little choppy as we switch points of view from Reef and Kirra, to the rescuers and then to the bad guys. As the story develops, the action is fleshed out a little and I loved seeing the interactions between past characters, particularly Kayden and Jake. The suspense is edge of your seat stuff and keeps at a fair pace through the entire book. Reef and Kirra are swoon-worthy. I loved Kirra's struggle with her past and Kirra really is the focus, with Reef having sorted some of his issues in the last book (I did mention Reef is gorgeously handsome, sensitive, kind and playful, right? Sigh). The romance starts right from the beginning, although it was alluded to in book four. Given that Reef and Kirra have been friends/rivals/enemies since kindergarten the relationship never feels rushed and makes for some sweet moments throughout the story. Sabotage is a great conclusion to the series, and while I am sad to see the last of the McKennas, I can't wait to see what's next for Dani Pettrey.

So brilliant! And so much fun. Killer Instinct is brilliantly written, the characters are awesome, and the plot is so very enthralling and clever.
Killer Instinct is the second book the in The Naturals series. You do need to read them chronologically to make sense of the continuing storyline, but with books this fantastic that is certainly no hardship. And for lovers of the first book, you need not worry about this sequel falling short - I would even say it is much better than the first. The characters are developing and it is great to see their continuing interactions and relationships. After the events of the first book, the Naturals team is being kept on a short leash, restricted to closed cases only. But with a developing case that is too similar to the murders committed by Dean's father to be coincidental, Cassie and her fellow Naturals can't help but become involved to find the killer before the bodies start pilling up. Mystery, great suspense and crime fighting action, with a dash of teen drama (which, I might add, is neither overdone or in any way ridiculous), humour, friendship and romance. Jennifer Lynn Barnes has, once again, created a remarkable and thoroughly enjoyable read. Very highly recommended.

Fast paced suspense. Grayson Hall, FBI Special Agent, is investigating the tragic bombing of a Houston airport that killed and injured hundreds of people. Top of his person of interest list is Taryn Young, software wiz, and her male traveling companion who coincidentally left the airport just minutes before the bomb went off.
Getting blown up wasn't in Taryn's plans for the perfect honeymoon. Nor was finding that she is a prime suspect. But what really tops everything is finding out that her new husband isn't who he said he was. She will have to prove her innocence by untangling the mess that is now her life and in the process uncover a far more sinister and extensive plot than she could have imagined.
At first I was unsure about how I would like this book. I like a good bit of romance with my suspense and I wondered how that would progress as one of the main characters is on her honeymoon when the story starts. But DiAnn Mills pulls this off admirably well. I found myself drawn into the story from the very start and rooting for Taryn. The romance between her and Grayson begins very slowly and realistically as she first learns to trust him and he her innocence. Nothing felt rushed or ridiculous, but was sweet and heartfelt. As for the action, there is plenty starting from the very first chapter. I found it did slow a little towards the end, I just wanted the bad guys to get caught rather than hear about the details of their plans and how to catch them, but I suppose that is more realistic and didn't spoil the storyline nor its readability. Overall, a highly enjoyable and gripping romantic suspense.

He is just unprepared for the emotional shakeup that Nic brings to his life. Soon the two will have to learn to trust each other as they run for their lives.
I love Sarah Alderson's books, particularly the Lila series and her more recent release Out Of Control. Conspiracy Girl has the same mix of action, mystery, engaging plot line and, of course, epic romantic tension. It is nail-biting, edge-of-your-seat, let's-skip-dinner-to-keep-reading stuff. I loved the tension that sizzles between Nic and Finn. Nic is the perfect mix of kick-but and terrified and Finn is geeky cool, protective and gorgeous (have I mentioned that before?).
