This is not the best fantasy book I've ever read but still one so unique and captivating that I couldn't put it down. I've always been in love with dragons so this absolutely filled my heart with love and now I'm on the edge of my seat waiting for the next installment.
I think at times, the world building could use some polishing because the info dump would come and go so the knowledge we gain is kind of in a confusing pattern. Otherwise, absolutely adore this!...more

Throne Of Glass meets The Selection but with a dash of Dragons in this book. When I first heard about this book, I knew that I needed and I am so thankful for Emma for giving me to the opportunity to read and review this early!
This world that Emma has created is one that is so captivating that you can't help but keep reading to know more and more about it. It is set in a world where those magical are ordered to be killed by the king and one day, the king decides to find a bride from one of the worst areas in his kingdom so he brings them to the palace where it's a sort of competition. But in this competition, it's not just about charming the king, it's also about showing you're cunning like him and ruthless like him.
Not to mention, this book also included the very last dragon, and the first meeting between Abraxas and Lore was one of the cutest things I've read in a while. I loved their dynamic because they're both such strong individuals with hearts of gold. They were both people stuck in very hard situations and being able to witness their growth and their relationship develop was a treat. Lore and Abraxas had an equal amount of heat and cuteness throughout the book and the balance was just right.
While I loved so much about this story, I honestly wanted a bit more world-building. I'm a nerd in the aspect of world-building and I really would've loved to know more about Lore's background and Abraxas' as well.
Overall, this book was an amazing and promising start to the series and I can't wait for the next book! ...more

i liked the completely unique world that karina halle was able to make. the stories, the elements, the characters. they’re amazing and i really liked them. solon and lenore had some really cute scenes which i absolutely loved.
now my issues.....
the main issue for me was at 27%. thank you to the author for not writing the scene but still, it really put me off and i wanted to throw my phone at a wall. i ended up not being able to appreciate some of the really soft and cute scenes between them because of what happened in the 27%.
it’s not just that, but there are constant time-skips. she keeps passing out and it's frustrating. someone please get this girl some of those smelling salts. the thing is she wouldn't pass out for a day, she would pass out for like two days or even longer and at this point i started to envy her. i'm in dire need of sleep and here's this girl falling asleep every week...more
