Lines like this forget about those who never had a thigh gap to begin with; you can't show the complexity of women whilst painting them all to have had the exact same experience.
I hate that these poems try to show that you that a woman doesn't live for a man, and yet they're all so.. centred around men regardless. What does it mean when all your thoughts around existing for yourself are all wrapped into trying to prove that to men?

Also the way the American military and police were romanticised in current times felt weird for a book showing a history that has been shaped by colonisation and oppressive violence....more
I was a bit on the fence about whether to rate this 2 or 3. There were a few poems in this collection that I did really quite like; Shelter, The MermaI was a bit on the fence about whether to rate this 2 or 3. There were a few poems in this collection that I did really quite like; Shelter, The Mermaid, A Wild Goose Chase, and Too Far In. But on the whole I thought the vast majority of those poems were too literal, too conversational, and lacked layers. Also, dare I say, that this was a bit too.. hetero for me? Not really a flaw but just personal taste. I'm bi but I found the focus on/theme of men not appreciating what they have a bit intense and it does tend to be more of a prominent feature in exclusively straight relationships....more
