Up until the about the middle, you go back and forth whether Rose or Fern are indeed the “good” sister. The character development was intricate and well balanced with alternating perspectives. You get really drawn to Fern’s straightforward thinking and simplicity, but you know there is something underneath the facade of the siblings. It was a twisted page turner until the very end....more

So when I heard this book was jam packed with exactly that, I knew it was my next read. It wasn’t as packed as I expected, which was slightly disappointing. The story felt a little disjointed. There was definitely references to the #metoo movement and dealing with depression, but I was not impressed with the ending. It felt unfinished and I really was expecting some big realization or twist, but it kind of just softly ended with the eulogy for Cassidy made by her sister.

After the sudden loss of her husband, Nealy has been asked to continue to serve as First Lady with the new President and this drives her over the edge and manages to dodge all levels of security and escape her prison. Her journey changes her life, makes her appreciate the little things and she ends up with a large diverse family of her own and back to where she started but of her own volition.
It wasn’t as predictable as I expected. I was pleasantly surprised at her journey, but the end dragged a bit. I appreciated Nealy not giving herself up to Mat’s apologies immediately as tempting as it was. It is refreshing to read a book that is about 20 yrs old. A time without Facebook, Twitter, Cell Phones, and no African American in the White House (?!?). Makes you remember how much the world has changed....more

I share the same birth year as the character, yet our lives as women are very different. What an eye opening book on the "modern" female life in Korea. Although our lives share many similarities, this reminds me, as an American, of how much freedom we have and how stifling life elsewhere could be....more

Katherine Center has the ability to develop characters with strings attached to your heart and tugs on them when it's called for. What You Wish For did just that. The opening chapter will get you invested in the story and its progression. You root for the people that you think deserve the perfect outcome, you watch them attempt to overcome the obstacles and then... no spoilers here! It was a great read and I recommend it!...more
