Minoru Yamasaki war der Architekt des World Trade Centers, der auch das gescheiterte Sozialbau-Wohngebiet "Pruitt-Igoe" mit 33 Hochhäusern entwarf, das etwa 20 Jahre nach Bau entsiedelt, ebenfalls vandalisiert und abgerissen wurde - Kobeks Atta nach wegen der westlich-modernistischen Arroganz: Menschen, die in den Kunstwerken bzw. Ideen anderer leben müssen, würden elend.
S16: "Solid rectangle erections of architectural arrogance, total modernist faith in the ability of buildings to shape lives, of the architect's belief that he can control his vision and utilize it towards good. [...] Architecture rapes the landscape, rapes lives around the building."
Das Buch enthält im Anhang einen kleinen Auszug der Diplomarbeit Attas, die er 1999 an der TUHH im Fach Stadtplanung einreichte.
Immer die Frage, was auf Kobeks Fantasie oder Tatsachen basiert. Die Geschichte um Bekannte Amal bspw ist gut geschrieben, aber vermutlich frei erfunden, zumindest, wenn sie ihm (wie Scheherazade!) Märchen erzählt, um Atta mittels Cliffhanger wiederkommen zu lassen, was er nicht macht (kein Spoiler).

Kapitel werden rückwärts gezählt, mit 8 beginnend (Countdown bis 9/11), wechselnde Erzählsituationen: meist innere Analysen, manchmal Dialoge, seltener "auktoriale" Fremdpersp. ("Atta fährt..."), alles aber nahtlos; gefällt mir bisher gut
