I tore through the first two books in this series and I was really enjoying the story.
...HOWEVER...
The thing about good stories is that there has to be movement, plot progression, and character growth. There has to be progress. Everything about this story was stagnant.
Easton was the only character in this series who changed or showed any growth. He was a cruel bully in book 1 and 2. There are hints that he is cheating on his fated mate and having sex with OW. He flat-out reviles her and tells her he'd be better off if she were dead. He tells her the only reason any of her fated mates wants her is because of the bond, and they don't like or care for her as a person. He was awful. But in book three, he really works to make up for it. He earns his place in the harem and the bond. He proves he's trustworthy.
Maddox, on the other hand, is a complete dildo from the beginning to end He did nothing to prove his love. He did nothing to make up for three entire books of cruelty. He had about two seconds of being nice in book one, and then he was so unforgivable for so long that there was no coming back for him; he just kept getting worse and worse. I DNF'd this story at 70% when FMC accepted Maddox without even a token apology.
FMC stayed the same throughout all three books. She had no character growth whatsoever. She finally manages to shift, but then she acts like shifting is an inconvenience and something she has no interest in. By the time I stopped reading at 70 percent, she had shifted for probably five minutes throughout the entire series. She didn't get tougher, or stronger, or braver. She didn't get any of the extraordinary royal powers she's supposed to get...unless she figures them out at the very end.
The plot progression stalled completely until the very end.
I'm not even sure how this is the last book in the series because I have no idea how the author could possibly manage to wrap up all the storylines in the last 30 percent of the final book.

This book is about 95% sex and 5% relationship development. I liked reading it, but maybe it was too fast burn? FMC only really spends time and forms a genuine romantic relationship with two of the guys. The other two guys just jump straight into sex and bypass any meaningful relationship development.
(view spoiler)[There is a small amount of MM, only one scene, and the guys' details together are minimal. This doesn't bother me even though I don't care for MM, but I know many people relish it.
There is the third-act breakup in this story as well.
One of the guys, Seb, doesn't like FMC and only glares at her until after the third act breakup. (hide spoiler)]

I've come to the conclusion that this author and I don't mesh well together. I seriously need to stop trying to read her books because I doubt she is capable of writing anything I would enjoy.
First things first, empty sex and one-night stands without an emotional relationship don't do it for me at all. The majority of this book is filled with unemotional quick fucks without attachment. The steam is really high and super fast burn, but it's all meaningless. It feels a bit trashy....more
