Set in the early 1800's, Julien is an aristocratic vampire who works as a spy for the government. Grace is a witch on a mission. A mission to seduce Julien and get pregnant. The explanation for that is kinda glossed over, but it was still a good short story. Not a lot of pages, but it holds a fair bit of info and keeps you interested. It's pretty much an insta-mates story, but sweet and sexy. There's a mystery, fated love, magic and crazy fanatics. Mostly written as an introduction or back story to the 'Prime' series, it certainly makes me want to read more!...more

Not my fave in the series but it was still a good read. I found the first half a little slow to get into, but the second half was better. Jax's life has been on hold for many years since he is cursed with an evil brother, Mikal who is determined to kill anyone he cares about. Not really a stand alone, the whole series is pretty intertwined and now it intertwines with the author's other series that focus's on shifters. I liked Caroline, she never balks at telling Jax when he's being an asshat. I didn't get much of a feel for Jax. He wasn't as strong a character as Sid or Slade. The justice served at the end was kinda bloody, but didn't bother me too much (and I am a squeamish person!). The epilogue was hijacked by a teaser for Sloan's story which is coming next. There was some pretty funny stuff revolving around Jill looking for a secretary for him... That's gonna be weird, as I have always pictured Sloan as more of an 'Ed Eisner' from 'Mary Tyler Moore', than a hot alpha......more

Slade and Jill steal the show, but there's plenty about the other characters you love as well as more on Jax and his evil brother and a new intriguing character. It's hard to write a review on this one without giving too much away. Suffice it to say, this one is more bitter sweet than the previous books. Bitter in that the situation becomes so hopelessly dire, but sweet because of the love between Jill and Slade and her love for her friends and family. Normally I don't like it when the focus of a story is spread between so many, but this was a thoroughly enjoyable read and hard to put down! Best one yet!...more
Jake the Vampire er rather... Immortal and Nicole. Jake is a Vampire, when he never wished to be. He's got a chip on his shoulder about it. For 7 yearsJake the Vampire er rather... Immortal and Nicole. Jake is a Vampire, when he never wished to be. He's got a chip on his shoulder about it. For 7 years he's struggled to come to terms with it. At loose ends, he is ripe for match making machinations. Marguerite (a family friend) sets him up to work as a bodyguard disguised as a housekeeper for her human friend, Nicole. Nicole keeps almost getting killed by strange accidents as she goes through an contentious divorce. I haven't read anything else in this series, but I often don't read series in order. I don't think it damaged the story to be read on it's own, out of order. It's a little campy and full of quirky humour, but there is also a nice arc of Jake learning to appreciate his new life and the family he had left behind. As a housekeeper, he sucks, and he also kinda sucks at being a body guard. Their romance felt a little stilted at first, but they had only known each other for a couple days at that point and she was heart sore or at least bruised in her pride from the divorce. By the end I felt a sweet connection between the two. The mystery of who is trying to kill Nicole keeps things in a constant state of chaos. You'll get a wee bit frustrated with Nicole, but bear with it. The Vampire/Immortal thing is pretty straight forward lore and like so many other versions. The side characters were funny if sometimes annoying. The ending actually was a surprise and except for the villain monologuing, a fun twist to an entertaining tale. I look forward to seeing these characters again in the series, and will read/listen to more. I listened to this on audio and the reader, Jack Dupont, was pretty great. I liked his voices and was always able to tell who was talking....more

I loved the first half of the book. The second half was OK too, but kind of devolved into an uneven string of awkward and often pointless action sequences. Jack wakes up next to newly made vampire, Sunny with just minutes to find safety from the sun. Who changed Sunny? Why can't either of them remember? Unfortunately the mystery aspect of the story was pretty easy to guess, but I more enjoyed Jack's inept job of teaching Sunny how to be a vampire. I wish there had been more chemistry between Sunny and Jack. It was more of an insta-love kinda thing made potentially awkward because Sunny is a dead ringer for Jack's dead wife. But she doesn't know that yet and if Jack has his way, she never will. How did he run into a twin of his wife in another city who has been turned vampire against her will? An action punishable by death. Sure smacks of a setup... or did Jack actually turn her himself?? Sunny is no 'action Queen' but she still saves the day and Jack does some wonderfully heartfelt grovelling. ...more

It's gruesome, Story starts out with tender repartee amidst explosions and melting cars. Phew! This is a high octane finale to the Night Prince series. It's gruesome, sweetly romantic, hilarious, shocking, and sometimes sad. All of this ratcheted up to another level from her previous books. Not as sexy as previous books, (there just isn't much down time amidst the action), and the comedy (Ian at his best) is sometimes over the top. Yet it works in a seamless stream of engaging characters doing death defying feats in the name of love, loyalty and friendship. Truly, I wouldn't change a thing!!!
For those (like me) who normally aren't into a lot of action (or gruesomeness for that matter), it is so well paced, and balanced with story that instead of getting stressed, I had a blast. Listened on audio and Tavia Gilbert was fantastic as usual.

This was my 3rd time trying to read this one (well listen to the audio). The reader is good except there were times when she forgot to change her voice and I was unsure for a moment if it was Lissianna or Greg talking.
Anyhoo, Lissianna the Vampire and Greg, her Psychologist. Lissianna has issues, she's a 202 year old vampire who faints at the sight of blood. Greg is the 36 year old Psychologist that her mother kidnaps for her birthday to help cure her of her phobia. I like the world building. The author makes an effort to write the older (like centuries and even eons older) vampires so you can feel their age. They may act more in keeping with the times when they were 'young'.. you know the middle ages, and/or lacking in emotion. The vampires are 'regular' people except for the nanos. There is a whole explanation of how their race came to be... and yes, it involves Atlantis. I know, that just sounds cheesy, but the author does kinda make it work. Yet the story itself was just so looooong and dry. Very dry humour, to the point of desiccation. The writing was overly verbose with tired explanations where none (or at least less) were needed. I am an intelligent reader and I can read between the lines! After about half way, the story finally gains some momentum, but not much and there were too many things going on. Instead of the multiple threads lending complexity and making the tale more interesting, it just kinda bogged it down like a tangle of ideas that don't really work together. I especially didn't like Lissianna. She was just such a limp biscuit who can't commit (one of my least fave plot devices). Although considering how long Vampires live, you'd think they would all have this issue! Greg is pretty blah too but in a 'cute boy next door', 'beta' kind of way. I don't really see what he sees in Lissianna. ...more

She isn't expecting a real Vampire and he isn't expecting what she turns out to be. She has know she is different her whole life, but not why. Neither is expecting anything lasting from the evening, but things change. There's a bit of conflict at one point but not much. It was a fun read, and I liked the characters. I'd like to say this was a dnf, but I actually did waste my time finishing it. Although it was in skim mode for the second half. I hate books that spend too much time in the evil guy's head. There's a lot of that in this one, with plenty of distasteful 'evil guy sex'. ick. I really skimmed those parts. The characters are supposed to be elite kick ass agents but other than the ridiculous leather matrix-style outfits (chafe much?), I doubt they could find their arses with both hands. There is no intrigue. The action has no imagination. The bad guy is predictably evil for the sake of being evil. I honestly can't think of anything I did like about this book. There were so many ridiculous little asides to the story that were imho pointlessly gratuitous (view spoiler)[ like the fact that Alaan never did have sex with Sher but was waiting for the mating ceremony... really??? and Tameth never really had sex with Kenoe... BUTTTT they all have a threesome at the end?? Really? wtf is that for? (hide spoiler)]. World building was almost non-existent. Characters were all similar and if not for the different names would have been interchangeable. Tameth is supposed to be this ultra kick ass agent, but you wouldn't know it by her actions and weak thought processes. Alaan was just an idiot. SOoooo disappointing. After pulling his head out of his arse 6 years too late, he couldn't even grovel well. ...more
