This one pulls on the heartstrings Colleen Coble's books have been an automatic read for me for many years and Fragile Designs is another reason why. This one pulls on the heartstrings with a suspenseful, edgy story, including a romantic flair and touch of inspiration and faith. Carly moved in with her grandmother after losing her husband before he knew he was to be a father. Carly always puts her family first and when she finds what she thinks is a Faberge egg in a chest left to her by her great grandmother, she wants to include her ungrateful, selfish sisters in the event that it brings in money. What she didn't expect is to be in danger along her loved ones. Her neighbor, Detective Lucas Bennett, comes to her rescue but he has not liked her since she and his brother broke up years ago. He realizes pretty quickly that he was wrong about Carly. This is a page-turner with lots of action, danger, suspense, and mystery. This one has a great setting of low country of South Carolina and Savannah, Georgia. A full slate of likable and some unlikable characters, including Carly's sweet baby Noah. Set on an island off the coast of South Carolina, this is a great beach read. Fun and realistic characters and their interactions kept me reading. Perky and outgoing Sadie is there for the summer to write a romance novel. She is having trouble because she has never been in love and has always written westerns. Sam is her neighbor in the duplex where she is staying. Sam had a hurtful breakup and Sadie grates on his nerves. Until he gets to know her. She built a Little Library on the beach access, and someone left a book with a special cutout and lovely piece of jewelry inside. The two make a deal. He will help her find the owner of the book if she will be his plus one at the wedding of his ex and cousin, who is or was his best friend. Real life events help Sadie come up with an idea for her novel. This is really a novel within a novel. Lots of fun with sparks, healing, trust, faith, and bumps along the way make this a great read that is a little different from other Denise Hunter books. I received a complimentary copy of this book. These stories are action packed and suspenseful with swoon worthy romance between great characters, including some from the FBI, Secret Service, and CIA. We also get visits from characters from prior novels in all three of these fun stories. It is always a wild ride with danger, mystery, suspense, romance, and faith interspersed with these go to for me authors. In my opinion, the stories are all standalone but having read the others, I knew the stories of the past characters. Highly recommended for those who enjoy romantic suspense with a faith thread. A man is killing families in a serial killer fashion and it is obvious that he has a list to complete. When a family is killed in Greenville, South Carolina, FBI Special Agents Caden Denning and his partner Zane Pierce recognize a friend in a photo found in the attic. How does Ava Jackson know the family? Ava has left the Navy and is between jobs. The journey begins to find Ava's connection to the killer and the families. It all seems to tie in with her father, who is in the photo as well. His background is a close kept secret, one not even Ava's mother nor brother know about. It soon becomes apparent that Ava is in danger so Caden stays close to keep her safe as they work to unravel the puzzle. Her father died eight months ago. Or did he? This is an intense action packed story with danger, mystery, sickness of hate and revenge, threaded with faith and unspoken feelings of admiration/maybe love. This one is a mystery that goes back to years past but is tied to present day. Friends from previous books in the series make appearances and there are some new updates and announcements. A great read not to be missed by lovers of suspense with a little romance and faith. I received a complimentary ARC from Revell Publishing and NetGalley. These friends are mostly former military and served in Afghanistan and are now back in the civilian world, working with the FBI, investigations and security, medicine, news reporting and so forth. Heather Fontaine is a surgeon, devoted to saving people. She grew up in foster care after being taken from an abusive father and doesn't like to depend on others. When she notices she has a stalker, she lets her friends know and when her home is broken into, she decides to leave town rather than put her friends in danger. People are unhappy with her after a video is released of her trying to save a young Afghani man who had a bomb strapped on outside the field hospital. He had asked for her helped before it exploded so she was led to try to save him. But he died. Travis Walker owns his own security agency and is attracted to Heather so when she disappeared from town, he and other friends unite to find her. Once she is found, he watches silently to make sure she is okay but when someone runs her off the road, he rescues her and the danger is just beginning. This is a multilayered plot of different events, suspects, and mysteries to unravel that kept me reading to the end. I enjoy Ms. Eason's style of writing with the friends tied together by their friendship and faith and how their skills work to help each other out. Suspense and danger push the story along and sometimes danger is closer than you think while other events are not as they seem. Another winner! As the story starts, Sarah Denning, a military journalist with the Army, is in the Middle East when she is kidnapped along with some Afghani girls. Her father, Lieutenant General Lewis Denning hires former Army Ranger, Gavin Black, and his team of contractors to go in and get Sarah out. Now, Sarah is back in South Carolina and discharged, thanks to her dad. Gavin and Sarah went on a few dates before Sarah decided to call it off a while back and he is friends with her brother Caden, a federal agent. The General, secretly hires Gavin to keep her safe because he has had threats that may have put Sarah in danger. With the friendship background, it is easy for Gavin to hang around. About the same time as all this is going down with Sarah, her younger brother Dustin commits suicide. He is also in the Army but is stateside dealing with PTSD, actually doing better when he kills himself. And he isn't the only one. A pattern appears of soldiers who served in Afghanistan and witnessed an orphanage bombing that caused severe psychiatric issues. Most are doing better when they commit suicide. While Sarah's life continues to be in danger, she, Gavin, Caden, and others work to find answers. The VA hospital where Sarah recovered when back stateside has some weird things going on so that is where the search begins. This is mystery with twists and turns, danger, relationship issues, romantic attraction, and light faith. A great addition to the series and highly recommended read. I don't think that you have to read the prior one first but I like to read books in order. I received a complimentary ARC from Revell Publishing through NetGalley. Living a life of privilege dRelative Silence is an edge of your seat mystery with a lovely setting in the South Carolina low country near Charleston. Living a life of privilege doesn't mean a great life. In this story, Piper Boone is from a well to do family but tragedy has struck many times with the deaths of several family members, including her three year old daughter fifteen years ago. When she is almost shot at an outdoor restaurant, a man at a nearby table pushes her down and gets shot himself with a minor injury. Tucker Landry has had his own history of tragedy but his faith has helped him recover. Other incidents continue and the two work together along with the help of a marine patrol agent to find out who is trying to get rid of Piper. Could it be one of her self centered family members, her ex-husband who still works with the family business, a family employee, or someone else? When a hurricane hits, things get very scary between the weather and the killer. With lots of twists and turns, this complicated story kept me guessing and more than a little surprised at the villain. This is a great read to keep you turning the pages. There is a plethora of relationships in the series but the author does a great job of giving background information. Edisto Island is a small community where there are many renters that come and go each week. It is Christmastime on the island and gifts are being taken from the renters' places, one each house with an exception or two. The gifts are taken supposedly by the Edisto Santa, a long time tradition where someone plays Santa, giving gifts to the poor who might not get something otherwise. But in the past, were gifts stolen to fulfill the gesture? Or is this a new act? Police Chief Callie Morgan moved from the Boston PD to the island where she spent holidays with her family. Her surprise birthday party at the new Mexican restaurant is interrupted when someone clearing a lot owned by a prominent citizen finds a body. The body turns out to be Callie's biological mother's estranged husband, Ben. Sarah has just arrived on the island for Christmas and Callie's birthday and so is a suspect along with others who might have it in for Ben. Callie and her small police force have their hands full with two investigations but her former retired boss from Boston gives her support. She steps on some toes when she recovers the stolen gifts from the poor recipients but she feels an obligation to the people who purchased the gifts. This is a fine line indeed. Locals stick together. I enjoyed reading and trying to unravel this mystery and also discovering this new to me author. I plan to check out her other books. This is series has a great setting with a cast of interesting recurring characters. Highly recommended. I received a complimentary ARC from Belle Bridge Books through NetGalley. Oh my goodness! This is a hard book to put down. Action packed and tense with suspense. And a wee bit of romance. It starts off in Kabul, Afghanistan Oh my goodness! This is a hard book to put down. Action packed and tense with suspense. And a wee bit of romance. It starts off in Kabul, Afghanistan where things fall apart for several Army soldiers and send them home to South Carolina. Brooke Adams, an Army psychiatrist is injured in a bomb in a restaurant while trying to help a patient. After leaving a hospital in Germany, she further rehabs in a burn unit in Atlanta and ends up in Greenville, South Carolina where her friend and former Army surgeon Heather lives. Asher James is a former Army Special Ops officer who carried Brooke out of the restaurant in Kabul. Asher and Brooke are brought together when he seeks her help with nightmares and blips of consciousness that take him back to Afghanistan. Instead, the morning of his appointment, he finds the body of the receptionist in Brooke's office where she practices with another psychiatrist friend. It soon becomes apparent that someone is after Brooks and Asher wants to help protect her. Why would someone want to harm Brooke? This turns into a widespread complicated plot that appears to have ties in Afghanistan and maybe the South Carolina/North Carolina area and involves some people that is a shocking revelation to those involved. This is an edge of the seat, page turner that is typical of Lynette Eason! And the first in a new series! So excited about that!
