The plot twists were amazing, and there was constantly something happening. Loved seeing all the threads come together in this one. However, one major disappointment was that Marguerite never really had to face any emotional consequences of what she went through- which was a lot. Would have loved to see more of that element of her character.
Overall, fascinating series with such beautiful covers!...more

The ending is why this book didn't get a 2 stars, really.
I liked how this one had more of a plot than the last one, evidenced by the last part of the book where we really got a central plot. However, the beginning was just Riley kind of aimlessly walking around and whatnot. Also, the romance/insta-love infuriated me, as did Riley. There were a few good plot twists though, but Riley's daftness kind of ruined them.

I am a total sucker for memory loss stories. I don’t know why, but I am, and with such an enticing premise centered around a girl with memory loss, False Memory seemed like it was singing my name. This is the type of books I would have loved 2 years ago, as it’s filled with action, suspense, and it’s fast paced. That would have been great for me then, but now I felt as if I was missing something critical during this book- depth.
The action in False Memory is surreal. Page after page, something was always happening, and it usually contained someone getting their butt kicked, which you can imagine made me extremely excited. I thoroughly enjoyed this aspect of the book, and all the action made me flip the pages in anticipation to see what was going to happen. The book, because something was always happening, flew by so quickly and I was left hanging for more by the ending.
The plot twists were also fantastically done in this book. Time and time again while reading a book, I find myself easily able to predict what’s going to happen, but that was certainly not the case with this book! Mr. Krokos definitely kept me guessing, and guessing incorrectly at that. It was great to see all the different twists throughout the book, and so refreshing to be thrown something so unexpected multiple times.
However, even with non-stop action and great plot twists, I was missing depth in this book. This was because I lacked, really, any emotional connection with the characters. They seemed too flat and dull to actually have any personalities to connect to. While there were a few occasions where I did feel sympathy for them, that’s something separate from connection. I needed something to fully empathize with them, with a distinct voice, perhaps, or a developed personality, neither of which I saw in any of the characters. This deterred my enjoyment of this book significantly.
Overall, while False Memory certainly did have some stellar qualities, like the unputdownable action, and the intriguing plot twists, it was lacking in developed characters. I’d recommend this to someone looking for a quick, action-packed read, and definitely to some of my friends at school who aren’t quite as picky as me. Above all, I did enjoy this book, and am looking forward to the sequel....more

I loved the psychological stuff in this one, it was so neat! And the plot twist at the end was pretty spectacular too. Although, I wasn't fond of any of the romance, and the beginning was pretty slow. I do think I will be picking up the sequel to this one though!
The sequel to Beautiful Creatures was equally enchanting as the first book. Now You can find this review, and more, at my YA blog My Not So Real Life!
The sequel to Beautiful Creatures was equally enchanting as the first book. Now that I finally got used to the strange idea of this series, it was easier for me to enjoy the book, and to embrace the weirdness. With fantastic plot twists and such an intriguing plot, Beautiful Darkness certainly didn’t disappoint from its predecessor.
The plot twists in this book were breathtaking. I honestly can say that I saw almost nothing coming. I’ve read my fair share of urban fantasies and paranormal books, probably more than my fair share, and so I can almost always predict what’s going to happen at least part of the time in books. But with this book, I saw none of it. I was surprised over and over again. These authors weaved such an intricate story, and I honestly was shocked by the end of this book.
My only complaint about this book is that the first 200 pages are slow with a capital S. Especially the first hundred. Literally, all that happens are relationship problems during the first 100 pages, which is fine for a little bit, but something else should be happening to move the plot along.
Overall, these two authors have managed to create two utterly unique and thoughtful books, which blow everything else in the YA market out of the water with their creativity. Everything is different, in the best way possible, even though there were some slow parts in the beginning of both books. If you haven’t picked up either of these two books yet, then I definitely recommend that you do, especially if you’re looking for something unique....more
