I loved the psychological stuff in this one, it was so neat! And the plot twist at the end was pretty spectacular too. Although, I wasn't fond of any of the romance, and the beginning was pretty slow. I do think I will be picking up the sequel to this one though!

After seeing all the glowing reviews for this book, I knew that I had to read this book. Since I enjoy a good mystery novel, I thought I would end up loving this book like so many other people did. Unfortunately, I was a little underwhelmed. But, I still ended up liking the book, although not loving it.
I actually did end up liking the mystery in this book. I was right there with Mac, trying to put the clues together. I didn’t guess the murderer until Mac did. I love it when a mystery is hard to solve, because that’s the point of a mystery, right? Right. So this book did end up doing good in the mystery section, because I didn’t figure it out who did the crime until the very end of the book.
I also really liked the whole lupine syndrome thing. Hemlock put a whole new twist on being a werewolf. It was treated like a disease, which I thought was very unique. People thought of it almost like an epidemic, really. If you had the disease, you had to turn yourself in. If you scratched another person, then you infected them as well. I just thought that it was really cool and well done.
However, there is one major thing in this book that I seriously disliked. A love triangle. Sigh. Oh, the ancient-old love triangle. I’m really tired of love triangles, to be completely honest. I like a love triangle that’s well done [*cough*Unearthly*cough*], but I don’t think that the one in this book was done well. Frankly, I wasn’t a major fan of either guy. I just couldn’t really connect with either, and for me, connecting with characters is so important in any book. That didn’t happen, thus, the love triangle was not enjoyable.
I also didn’t like the cliffhanger in this book. I thought it was totally unnecessary. Really, this book would have been a perfect standalone. But in those last few pages, the author decides to do something totally not worth it, turning a perfectly good standalone into a series and ruining the ending for me, personally. I may or may not pick up the next one, although probably not. I just thought that the book could have been so much better without the cliffhanger.
Overall, I enjoyed this book. There was a good mystery, some unique things with the whole werewolf syndrome thing. But, there was a love triangle and a cliffhanger. In the end, Hemlock is a good mystery book to keep you entertained for a few hours. Nothing really more than that.

After having been extremely disappointed by the middle book of this series, I still clung to the hope that the final book in the trilogy, Endlessly, would be better. And it was. Far better than it predecessor, Endlessly was a great ending to this trilogy.
Evie, my favorite aspect of this entire series, is back and better than ever with her sarcastic and snarky tongue. I loved reading from her point of view, with her fun personality, which is like a breath of fresh air in this dark genre. It was also great to see her development. She grew a ton throughout this series, but especially in this book. It was great to see her learn from her mistakes and watch her character grow even more with every experience she had. Character development is something hard to achieve so subtly in books, but Ms. White managed to pull it off fantastically.
The ending was fabulous. It was well crafted by the author, and I loved how it wasn’t perfect. The bittersweet tones in it made it so much better and added the perfect amount of depth. I was definitely satisfied with how things turned out, and thought that it was a great ending to the series. It was the perfect combination of closure that we readers needed, but it left a lot of things open as well.
However, some things in this book were simply overlooked or oversimplified. I won’t go into details in fear of spoilers, but some things that should have been extremely difficult were done with ease, or not talked about at all. A few of these occurrences were extremely important, and it detracted from the development of the plot. Simply put, these things needed to be explained, yet they weren’t. It made the plot seem incomplete, in a way, or rather, filled with holes, even though they were small holes. The fluency of the plot was also interrupted by skipping over the important things.
Also, Reth’s character felt pretty much skipped over. He was never fully developed. He was quite a mysterious figure in the first two books, and I was hoping that more would be revealed about him in this book. Unfortunately, we are still left with very few details about Reth, who played a significant role in this book. While there was some information about his motivations, there aren’t any details about why he was motivated the way he was, the cause for his motivations, etc. Again, I’m being vague on purpose, but the point is, the list of unknowns about him could go on and on. This created indifference for me towards Reth, which definitely took away from the overall reading experience, since he’s such a major character in this book.
Overall, Endlessly, was a good ending to a good trilogy. It’s definitely an improvement over the second book, with a fabulous and spunky main character and a fantastic ending. Even with oversimplified aspects and an extremely underdeveloped character, Endlessly is worth picking up even if you didn’t enjoy Supernaturally. I’d recommend this series to anyone searching for something lighter in the paranormal genre with a fantabulous main character. I’m definitely going to miss the characters, but I can’t wait to see what Kiersten White has in store for us next....more
This is the last book in the Wolves of Mercy Falls trilogy. Sam and Grace are trying to get back together, while Cole is trying Real Rating: 2.5 Stars
This is the last book in the Wolves of Mercy Falls trilogy. Sam and Grace are trying to get back together, while Cole is trying to find a cure, and Isabel is trying to get things together again with herself. The POV of this book is, again, alternating between Sam, Grace, Cole, and Isabel.
I didn't really like this book. There's alot of things that just don't... work. Like the ending. I mean, there's a difference between leaving a few questions unanswered, and just cutting off the book. That's what I felt Maggie Stiefvater did. There's WAY too many questions left unanswered for it to be a good ending to a book, let alone a series. What she needed was an epilogue, not an Author's Note. We have no idea what happened with Cole and Isabel, no idea what happened with Grace or her parents, and no idea of what will happen to Sam and Grace. What type of ending is this??
Another thing I really disliked about this book was that it had SO many unnecessary things in it. For example, at the end: (view spoiler)[Cole getting shot. We KNEW that he couldn't die, it was wayy to obvious that he would live. It was completely pointless in the story. (hide spoiler)] Another thing: [this one isn't a really major spoiler, like the other one: (view spoiler)[Isabel getting pulled over for speeding. It had absolutely NO relevance to the story, at all. Maybe to show how powerful her father is, but we already knew this. What was the point? To take up extra space in the story? (hide spoiler)] There's a ton of more examples throughout the book. I felt like if we were to gut down the story to the true plot line, the book would basically be only 75-100 pages long.
The thing I actually liked about this book was Cole. For me, he was really the enjoyable character. He was smart, brave, and creative throughout the book, and wasn't afraid to make mistakes.
Overall, this book was one of those book I had to read just to get the ending, which was utterly pointless. Nothing too amazing about this book......more

In this sequel to Shiver, Sam and Grace are back together again, against lots of odds. Sam is still feeling unsure if he's safe to be out in the winter. He still can't believe that he's cured. We also see more of Isabel in this book, which I think I enjoyed. We also meet 2 of the 3 new wolves. One, we only meet briefly, the other more frequent. The POV's are alternating between Grace, Sam, and occasionally Isabel and the new wolf.
I defiantly think I enjoyed this one more than the first book. During the middle of the book, I was thinking that this would be a solid 3 star book for me. But, the ending really picked up, and it's a 4-star for me now.
There were plenty of things I liked about this book. I think I enjoyed the romance more, because it wasn't as rushed. I also liked how we got to see more of Isabel and see what was going on in that little head of her. Also, I enjoyed how the characters weren't right about everything, and made some mistakes. That defiantly added some suspense in the story.
What I was surprised about in this book was how connected I felt to the characters. At the end, I really felt sad for Sam, and was right there with him. I didn't think I would have felt for him, but I really did experience the character's feelings.
The thing I didn't like about the book, was that it dragged in the middle. We had a bunch of clues/symptoms, but nothing was happening for a while. It was at the end where the characters put everything together [which took a VERY long time for them to realize something was happening]. Sam was super ignorant in this book, which kind of aggravated me.
In the end, I really enjoyed this book! I'm excited to read the next one!...more

So many people fell in love with Nightshade. I fell in love with the cover [I have the hardcover, not the new and ugly paperback], but unfortunately, I didn’t fall in love with the book. It just had too many problems for me to enjoy fully.
Let’s start off with the good. Nightshade had lots of action. It really kept you intrigued and hooked. I really liked the action in it, because I felt like it was the perfect amount to make you want to keep reading, but it wasn’t overdone. This is one of the books I read for the 24 Hour Read-a-thon, and I thought it was a pretty good choice, because I was so hooked. I really wanted to know what was going to happen next.
I also liked the unique approach to werewolves. Not unique, per say, but I liked how it wasn’t totally cliché. It was very interesting to find out about the werewolves themselves, and how everything worked. I was constantly comparing to Shiver and Twilight, to see how the werewolf aspect compared to each book. In Nightshade, I’m happy to say there were lots of differences between the werewolves from Shiver or Twilight. Like, in Nightshade, when you switched into your werewolf form, it was painless, which is almost opposite the way it was in Shiver by Maggie Stiefvater. It was interesting to put the puzzle pieces together about the werewolves in this book.
Now, for the things I didn’t really like in this book. The main thing I disliked was our main character, Calla. She was supposed to be a strong, no emotion type character. Kick butt, can take of herself type character, right? Uhm, no. She was meant to be that way, but that didn’t really happen. Yes, during a few parts, Calla was strong, but mostly she was just that annoying female protagonist trying to choose a boy and swooning over both. She wasn’t strong throughout most of the book. In fact, she seemed to have two different personalities. Without Ren or Shay, she was a good, strong character. Around them, she was a wimpy damsel in distress that needed to be saved.
Ren and Shay bring me to my next point. The love triangle. There has only been one love triangle that I have ever liked, and that’s the one in Unearthly by Cynthia Hand. And that’s because it was super well-done. I don’t think the love triangle in this book was well-done at all. I didn’t really care for either Ren or Shay. I didn’t like either of them at all, really. They were just “meh” characters for me. The love triangle doesn’t really work when you don’t have two really awesome guys. It definitely didn’t work in this book.
Overall, Nightshade was a bit underwhelming. There was some good action, and the werewolf aspect was very intriguing, but I didn’t like the main character, Calla, and didn’t care at all for the love triangle. Overall, I liked it, but didn’t love it....more

I think the romance was ridiculous in the book- wayy too rushed to make it seem real. Both main characters were also super obsessive and possesive, it was creepy.
