Summary: Elizabeth Perry and her sisters Mary and Lydia grew up with a mother who had BBC's 1995 Pride and Prejudice TV series on repeat and hated it. Yet, their life took a similar turn while struggling to keep their West Village townhouse who they had inherited from their parents. Their new tenant, Jonathan (Bingley), for the garden apartment and his realestate developer friend George Barrow(Darcy) enters their life as a saving angel that quickly turns sour. George found a lot of faults in need of repair and the animosity grew. Add a sleazy mortgage broker (Colins), a transvestite owner of the bakery Elizabeth works at, Billie Jane (Jane), a lazy handyman Tommy (Wickham) and the story is set. Elizabeth checks are stolen, she received a foreclosure and needs a knight in shining armour of which the books deliver and we have a HEA sort of...
The ending was disappointing although there was a double wedding. The weird wedding night was creative and unique but I would have preferred something more traditional in this case. The turn in Elizabeth's affection came from the blue as did Jane's HEA of which there had been no foreshadowing.
I am somewhat ambivalent in my thoughts about this book. I found the plot engaging but the characters were too flat to connect with.
A worthwhile read.
Rated: Mature because of an attempted sexual assault, swearing, racy conversations and one sexual encounter....more

Enters, quite literally, with a crash and it kept me smirking a lot (when I did not laugh out loud). A highly entertaining, fast-paced and engaging read about PR consultant Caralyn, her bad day and multiple run-ins with Alex... At about 2/3rds the story shifts with Caralyn's thirtieth birthday. She behaved like she was a decade younger, occasionally throwing a tantrum worthy of a three-year-old... The heroine's commitmentphobia did eventually get annoying, it went on several turns too long and an otherwise entertaining read dropped from 4 stars to an average 3...

I liked the premises and I was intrigued by Lizbeth's backstory that the author kept me in suspense about for the first half of the book. Jane, Marie/Mary and Lydia were sorority sisters but she had siblings that were original characters and the mystery about who her parents and grandparents were kept me interested. I was more half-hearted about some of the adaptations made to transfer the story from Regency England to contemporary USA. The first proposal scene felt clammy and the scene where the Lydia debacle was discovered felt stilted as did much of the dialogue. I know it would probably be a natural consequence in the modern era that Lizbeth spent the night with Jorge/Wickham but I cannot stomach it... I could have done without the excessive description of interior and clothing as well but my main problem with the book was the lack of emotion. I could not feel the attraction nor romance between the main characters.

This fast-read begs not to be taken too seriously so I didn't with plausibility or language in mind. It did make me smile on a few occasions but not as much as I had anticipated. I have frequently been accused of having a dry sense of humour though and this book might possibly be the wet kind...
Hilarious! 100% unbelievable but cracy, funny oneshot. Interesting twist with an inconsistent Jane, accepting Mr Collins after Bingley left Netherfield.

Beautifully written and sweet forced marriage scenario. But... I found the storyline somewhat grating. Both are in love but they do not talk to each other and interpret everything the other says or does in the worst possible way. Perhaps I have too little patience but it became grating before I reached the halfway point.
Enters with Georgiana making a surprise visit to her brother at Netherfield. She was particularly well portraited in this story and I liked this twist very much. A debacle at the Netherfield ball enforced the marriage between our dear couple and the rest of the story evolved mostly around the development of their relationship after this troublesome start. I was not fond of how that was achieved but it was well written. Richard made an appearance and played a vital role in the Wickham debacle that had a twist compared to canon. Richard was another character that I particularly liked in this book. In addition, chickens played a vital role which was unique to this book. I have reared chickens myself although I am not quite as mesmerized with them as Elizabeth was...
Recommend for those who are particularly fond of misunderstandings.
