I liked this, but I liked it for the memoir aspect and not as the business help book that it's labeled as.

I think that she has some really practical advice, and for those who may have never picked up a self-help book before I would imagine that this would make an impact. I have read other books (Malcolm Gladwell, Gabrielle Bernstein etc) that are more in depth and give practical applications to the *tips that she lists here.
I can really respect and appreciate what this woman did. #GIRLBOSS4EVA...more

I picked this up because I have been so stressed out over a messy household, and I figured I'll give just about anything a shot at this point. I have been in my new-to-me house for almost 2 years and I still have cardboard boxes full of stuff in every room.... so yes. It's a problem. The fact that I NEED to do something to change my current living situation is what drove me to pick up this book, and for someone who is only curious about it and doesn't feel like their house/home lifestyle needs changing probably won't get much out of this. (see random assortment of reviews)
Someone referred to this author as bat-shit-crazy with her woowoo methods- hahaha... and maybe some of the things she talks about is a stretch... I'm unsure about needing to greet my house every time I walk in the door or to clean out my purse and thank it daily for working hard for me... but you know what? I'm gonna give it a try- because it might make me more conscious of my things.
I totally believe the testimony's of people who have gone through the whole KonMarie process, and their lives changing across the board. That is what prompted me to pick up this book. I have been living with things that stress me out and take up valuable space- when I get through all my items and can purge what doesn't "spark joy" I'll be able to have space and room to do the things that I really enjoy.

As with any "self-help" book, it is hard to rate a book because we all take something different out of them. I did like this. With a stressful career that has slowly overtaken all aspects of my life the last 5 years, some of this was difficult to read and I felt myself becoming defensive. BUT, I'm glad I powered through. It is great for people who are in public service, who have to be "on", and as I am coming up on the end of what will be a 76hr work week- it is also for people who feel they spend all their time in their jobs. I'm not sure that I got many "tips" from this, but awareness is the first step to changing anything. All in all, a good read....more

So, I was reading this gem last week at my favorite coffee shop/breakfast place, when the nice older lady next to me asked what I was reading. I showeSo, I was reading this gem last week at my favorite coffee shop/breakfast place, when the nice older lady next to me asked what I was reading. I showed her and she recognized the authors name. She was excited and said "Ooh! Is that a new one?" I told her no, and explained the general premises of the book and she immediately withdrew from the conversation and said, "Oh, that's not really for me."
I laughed, internally, and thought that is the exact attitude that EVERYONE seems to have when it comes to the idea of growing your own food, or sourcing it locally. This really made me think, and just raised awareness about how my household eats. I'd be interested to see how much the research and data has changed since this was written nearly 10 years ago now.
So the few things that I have changed in the weeks of reading this-
*Buy organic when I can *weekly farmers market visits and meal planning based on those purchases *if there is an option for locally grown- its a win!
AND- I ordered a cheese making kit. Lord help me.
I wish I would've read this a long time ago, at least before spring. When we bought our farm this was the exact vision I had- grow my own food/harvest/canning/jam making etc. I'll probably pass on the livestock other than chickens- I don't have that much time on my hands!
Anyway- I recommend this to anyone/everyone. ...more
